Sold my Opeth ticket, so I've got Katatonia headlining tomorrow night, Enslaved and Alcest next weekend, my friend's band Onward to Iowa two days after that, then The War on Drugs and Priest/Lizzy/BLS in November. And as far as I know, that's the rest of 2011.

That's just one of the many shows I can't attend because of my insane work / travel schedule for the next two months.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Speaking of which, there is some good news in all of this...on the subject of the thread:

Just finished making hotel reservations from 30-Sep to 9-Oct in Kona, Hawaii. Plane tickets were purchased earlier this week.

The bad news - I'm missing the following shows because of this:

10/1 - Enslaved / Ghost / Alcest - Outland Live (Columbus, OH)
10/4 - Arch Enemy / DevilDriver / Skeletonwitch / ChthoniC - House of Blues (Chicago, IL)
10/7 - An Evening with PRIMUS - Stage AE (Pittsburgh, PA)
10/8 - Explosions in the Sky / Wye Oak - Royal Oak Music Theatre (Detroit, MI)

Oh, the things I do for love (OK...and SCUBA diving).

 :axe: :lovedup:Yeah, so here's the full list of shows that I have missed / will have to miss in September / October due to other travel:

9/15 - Weedeater / Saviours / Bison BC / Fight Amp - Outland Live (Columbus, OH)
9/17 - Weedeater / Saviours / Bison BC / Fight Amp - Reggie’s Live (Chicago, IL)
(I was in Birmingham, AL for these.)

10/1 - Enslaved / Alcest - Outland Live (Columbus, OH)
10/2 - Lionize / Larry & His Flask - Grog Shop
10/4 - Arch Enemy / DevilDriver / Skeletonwitch / ChthoniC - House of Blues (Chicago, IL)
10/5 - Battles / Walls - Grog Shop
10/7 - An Evening with PRIMUS - Stage AE (Pittsburgh, PA)
10/8 - Explosions in the Sky / Wye Oak - Royal Oak Music Theatre (Detroit, MI)
(I will be in Hawaii for these. OK, so that's not so bad...but still.)

10/20 - Boris / Tera Melos / Coliseum - Dionysus Disco at Oberlin College (Oberlin, OH)
10/23 - Decapitated / Decrepit Birth / Fleshgod Apocalypse… - Peabody’s
10/24 - Warbringer / Lazarus A.D. / Landmine Marathon / Diamond Plate - Peabody’s OR KVELERTAK / Zoroaster - The Summit (Columbus, OH)

No. A good scenie band is an oxymoron. If a band is scenie that means that their fans are scene kids. If their fans are scene kids that means they are mostly enjoyed by people with a poor taste in music.

The show is in Revere, 7 miles outside of Boston, but fortunately the subway does run until 1 o'clock. I'll take that to South Station, which is minutes away from the 24-hour South Street Diner, which will be my accommodations for that night. At 6 am I will return to South Station and board my bus back to campus.

And where is the Indian show?

The Indian show is at a place called The Hideout, it's a little further north I think. Looks like a pretty small place that doesn't have metal shows, ever. It's some kind of Halloween show, and Indian is brutal as fuck live, so I'm thinking about going, and I made the mistake of never getting into Exhumed, and I've seen Goatwhore plenty of times, although seeing them again really wouldn't hurt. I don't know, I have all month to think about it. Chances are it'll come down to money, and if it does, I'm going to Indian.

It'll ruin your fucking life. I've done all kinds of drugs, and I'm totally not bragging, but telling the sad truth, and ecstasy is by far the worst thing I've ever fucked with. It'll ruin your life quicker than anything else, believe it or not. Don't get me wrong though, doing it once or twice won't hurt you, but you and I both know it never works that way.

When I went to North Coast in Chicago I had a revelation about the kind of trash that frequent the scene/drug. It disgusted me. Eh ecstasy isn't that bad of a drug. It'll ruin your life if you're an idiot though. I know a lot of people who are very smart, have their lives together, etc, and do ecstasy every once in a while and have been for a few years now. My brother has been in the rave scene for a long time now and knows a lot of older people that have also been in it for awhile who are smart with it and don't overdo it. I also know a few idiots who used to do ecstasy A LOT constantly and I'm pretty sure that fucked with their lives a good amount. Then again they weren't smart to begin with.

I, myself have done it 3 times. 2 times I took 1 pill, and the last time was half a pill. I highly doubt I'll do it again. Yeah it's fun, but very overrated and stupid.

I would NEVER touch crystal meth, crack, heroine, or any shit like that. I've done cocaine before just because I wanted to experience it once. It was cool and definitely an experience, but I wouldn't do it again and I wouldn't recommend it, especially since many people overdo it. I've also done mushshrooms. While I think it is amazing, it could get very scary at times. I'm glad I did it though. Definitely an experience and it made me realize a lot about many things.

I guess my view on drugs for myself is that it's fine to experience with them at least once each (weed, ecstasy, salvia, mushshrooms) but as long as you know you won't go doing it again and again afterwards and let it take over your life like many people do. This view of mine doesn't apply to everyone though. But don't be stupid and do meth, crack, heroine and that stuff. Not even cool to "experiment" with that.

Well its like any drug, prolonged use has its downsides, part of which would certainly be your mental capacity seemingly going downhill.

My best friend went through a pretty bad phase with hard drugs such as pills, and yeah, the couple of days after a night on them is fucked, you start 'skagging' which means you want more of them really bad, the dehydration is ridiculous and you're just a generally more nasty person to be around.

from what I've read, when you're on it it's the greatest fucking feeling in the world, but the next two days are living fucking hell.

Yeah it really is a good feeling. And yeah, the next couple days, or week, or whatever is living hell. I've never been so emotionally fucked up or depressed in my life as I was the day after the last time I fucked around with that shit. I have a friend who did that stuff alot, he's 18 years old, a senior in high school, and he's probably going to have effects from it for the rest of his life. He can't take a piss, drink a pepsi, watch tv, look at flashing lights, or hear loud ass music without getting some kind of weird feeling because of x. And he hasn't done it for almost a year.

Like structualxdefect said, everythings ok in moderation, but you're best off just avoiding it to begin with. But hey, I'm not one to preach about this kind of stuff, I'm just lookin out for you because I know you're not accustomed to the drug world ;)

I think I'm gonna skip Revocation. I'm low on money that could go to shows at the moment and Revocation would be my only reason going. Rise To Remain dropped off the tour and I was looking forward to them. Not a fan of Impending Doom. Chimaira is fun live and all, but they're playing here again in December with Unearth and Skeletonwitch which I'm going to for sure. Also Revocation just released their new album so I'm sure there will be many tours to see them on in the next year.

Line-up was:

Envy
Trash Talk
Touche Amore
And So I Watch You From Afar

Envy and ASIWYFA had great but real calm crowds. Just there to jam out. Touche Amore had a lot of movement, but it was always respectful. As soon as Trash Talk started, people just went fucking nuts. I was on the side of the moshpit and I had to break up several legitimate fist-fights and these people kept trying to pull me (and others) into the pit. One girl acted like she was determined to rip the sleeve off my Napalm Death jacket (that bitch!) but it just really distracted from the band. I NEVER let a crowd distract me from a band if I can help it.

Trash Talk and Alpha & Omega (opening for Bane/Trapped Under Ice/Cruel Hand) are the only two pits where I felt like people were being assholes just for the sake of being assholes. Those two crowd experiences are what have really turned me off from going to random small/local hardcore shows.

Wound up going to The Smokers Club Tour w/ Method Man, Curren$y, Big K.R.I.T. and a bunch of others last night. The opening rappers all had potential. Smoke DZA is apparently another Wu-Tang member that nobody heard of. Big KRIT was good. Curren$y was pretty lame since he was in a cast. But in the end Method Man made it worth it, great performance.

Also weed was pretty much legal in that club. Every act smoked, encouraged the crowd to freely smoke, went into the crowd and sampled all the different types of weed they had. They threw boxes of RAW rolling papers in the crowd. The whole show was filmed and the cops were there too  pretty ridiculous.

yo Dan, I just realized that I can take the Greyhound bus up to Montreal and back for $65. This means I can see Exhumed and Goatwhore. You're always raving about Exhumed live, so figured I'd ask you. Factoring in high Canadian ticket prices, expensive bus journey, probably some sort of hotel if I can't find a 24-hr diner, food... are they worth me spending $100?

Just for reference, Origin (with their new vocalist) is by far the best live band I've seen. If I wasn't seeing any other concerts this year and Origin was playing up there, I'd make the trip for Origin with no hesitation whatsoever.

Have they really never toured the US? I thought their US tours were just few and far between. May have to think about it more and see a setlist before the gig to make a final choice. It's not till December though. Plus the venue website doesn't work anymore so that's kind of a turnoff when considering whether or not to travel to a new city in a foreign country. Don't wanna end up in some scary shithole.
