I don't regret my decision one bit, but my parents and brother are out right now and I'm sorta regretting the confrontation. What will we say to each other on the phone?

I'm actually home alone today :bouville:

I've never been to a show where a band came on that late.

It rarely ever happens, at least at a venue like this.

Update: my mom called; she didn't sound mad but she said she was. I can't blame her for these preconceived notions that she has; she grew up in a whitebred Minnesota town and she thinks all black people are gonna shoot her. Whenever we pull up next to a car of black people she automatically locks the door :tp: My dad on the other hand: he grew up near NYC in Westchester, and he says he knows cities are dangerous. I mean, look guys, I'm not an idiot; I'm not gonna walk down random downtown streets after midnight, I'm gonna go the show and when the show ends I'm gonna walk to the parking lot with everybody else.

well I was going to see Intronaut with my friend on the 27th. And maybe Toxic Holocaust. And possibly Mayhem or Summer Slaughter.

It's not that I'm pissed because I was planning to see more shows in the future, what if some cool shows came up? Oh well, I'll just lie and go anyway. I'm feeling defiant my last summer before college  Besides, I work like 30 hours a week anyway. The rest of the time I'm at home doing nothing. Though if they take away my computer and netflix...

well, in their defense, I did agree to be home at 12:30 and I didn't even call her to tell her what was going on (I left my phone in the car). But if I did call her, she wouldn't have said "okay come home when Origin ends honey," so I dunno.

Septic Flesh headlining tomorrow night in Providence, then Motley/Poison on Tuesday. Not even particularly interested in the Motley show, but a friend of mine decided he wanted to blow a lot of money and bought four tickets. Then I don't think there's anything until Kamelot at the end of August.

Still got Obscura/Skeletontits/Solipsist on Wednesday, and All That Remains next Saturday at Peabody's. I'm really pumped for the ATR show, since last time I saw them in Chicago, it was in the Metro, which is a huge venue, at least 7-8 times larger than Peabody's.

Hmm well 7 Seconds doesn't play out there too often and they are completely worth it. Weezer is fucking amazing live, but they tour a lot more often than 7 Seconds. I'm still baffled by the fact Weezer is on that lineup haha

Odd Future was so awesome! Actually survived the center rail the whole show

Bumped into Tyler after the show, he was selling OF t-shirts for $25. I told him I only had $15 on me, and he was like, "Fuck, man, just take the shirt, it ain't like I'm broke or nothin'" We had a fun little conversation afterwards. Great fella!

Shows remaining this month.

7/29 Summer Slaughter

Pretty stoked for this. My third time seeing Black Dahlia Murder, along with first times for Dying Fetus, Fleshgod Apocalypse, As Blood Runs Black, Six Feet Under, and Darkest Hour. The rest of the bands don't appeal to me too much, so eh. :rocker:

7/30 A Perfect Circle

hahaha seriously! I'll give it two years and he's going to stop going to shows for a while. It's always fun going to see bands you love, but if you see EVERY single one you like all at once, then there is going to be nothing left to really hope to see. Yes we can be those who hunt down certain songs for 20 years, but that kind of ruins the whole experience of seeing a band live. Idk, we all have different views on shows I guess

I saw most of the bands I wanted to see in a 2-3 year span and conveniently moved out at the end of it, which leaves me with very little to no money for shows. I can save up for the occasional big show (ex. Priest) and still see newer bands in their prime for cheap at clubs though (Torche/Big Business). I have a steady job instead of being self employed so it's a pain in the ass to get days off too.

I used to be all about going to shows all the time too cause I could, but now I feel likes its more of a waste of money to get there than the actual memory. I've pretty much seen every band I want to see. Tool, Dropdead, Goddamn Gallows and Jayke Orvis are the only ones I really need to see left. At this point I would just like to listen to the record and pick what I want to hear instead of the same songs over and over.

I know what you mean. Most of the shows I'm going to now are either extremely cheap or free. Big shows will be far and few between. I'm getting RATM/Muse for free so that's a plus. I realized I need to save up money to move on in life and get shit done. I figured that out when a lot of girls I was talking to blew me off cause I was spending too much money on random shows instead of pursuing my life. It made me think a lot, but I finally grew out of that "I'm bored, who's playing tonight" phase.

Dropping anywhere from $30-100 per show when you figure in driving/transportation, food, maybe a shirt and your ticket starts to feel stupid when you see a band for the second or third time and you walk away knowing that you can't spend any money on anything unless you absolutely need it too.

That's how it is. I easily spend well over $50 a show. Even the smaller cheap shows.

15 bucks for a ticket
25 for gas
20 bucks for a shirt if I really want to support them
free to 5 bucks for parking
5-10 to eat after

It really adds up quick.

For me, most of my shows are usually at this tiny ass hole in the wall, so thats:

10 for a ticket
20 on gas
15-20 on alcohol

I guess my cheapest is around 50 as well :(

More expensive shows in Hollywood, lets say I was to see Exhumed next month....

20 on gas
10 on parking
15 for the show
5 on alcohol(thats if I'm forcing myself to consume cheap ass beer to save money haha)

still too much for my liking but will probably still go...

That's why I usually pick and choose what concerts I go to. Either they gotta be one of my favorite bands, or the whole bill has to be badass. Otherwise it's a 3 hour round trip and I gotta support the bands too because...I'm right there with them making no money being a musician, they need all the help they can get. But I only buy shirts of the bands I care about most.

I would drink at a show, but where I see most shows at. You can only drink at the bar. and I'd rather be riding the rail. I'd probably be less dehydrated if I stayed at the bar. and since I usually hang out with the bands after the show anyways, that would maybe make sense. But I love being in the crowds too much. trying to grab a setlist or a stick. Getting fist bump or anything. Just that kinda guy.

Damn, I would hate to drive 90 minutes each way to a show. I get pissed off when I have to. Most shows are 45 minutes each way for me. My favorite venue is only 15 minutes away and I love it when bands come through there, but its usually shitty bands so I don't go there too often.

That's so lame about only being able to drink at the bar. Most of the places I go to don't enforce that rule, but then again, if you are drinking, the rail isn't the best place to be cause of spillage or the need to piss often. I don't get on the rail too often anymore cause its too much effort and sometimes the sound quality right up front just isn't what I want. I notice vocals sound a little better when I'm a little bit back, and I'm big on being able to hear everything haha.

Most of the shows I go to are at Mr. Smalls, which is north of Pittsburgh. I live about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, so it takes me around an hour to get to every show there. Whenever there are actually shows in Pittsburgh (which is rare, I've only seen 3 or 4), it can take even longer because of downtown traffic. All you people who live within walking distance of a venue that puts on metal shows, consider yourselves lucky ;)

I live in small ass town Wisconsin, about roughly 90 minutes from St. Paul Minnesota. So that's where I go to 99% of all concerts is at a venue called Station 4, which is the most legendary Metal venue in Minnesota. Almost every Metal band comes through station 4. It's very small, and it gets hot as fuck in there (Especially during Devin Townsend on the 5th) but its so worth it. I have so many good stories about being there. Also one of my best friends in Metal lives right above Station 4 in a practice studio/Apartment.

I actually like the drive, because it's one of my vices to drive to get things off my mind. Don't smoke, don't drink that often, and at least for the next few weeks, single. so Music/drums and driving are my stress relievers.

Regardless, it's better then driving 7 hours away to see a show in Milwaukee, or 8 for Chicago.

It's very lame about the drinking, but at the same time, with Station 4, the pit and bar are in two different spots separated by a wall (with windows) so it does make sense in that regard.

I would stand in the middle to get the best sound...but that's where all the moshers are. Moshing annoys the hell out of me. I get how it's fun, I won't knock it, just not my bag.

Rage against the machine is in less then 3 days. I have to ask this chick today at my work if she can take my shift, everyone else either doesnt wanna take it or are working that day as well and the one person that could easily take my shift cant because hes going to the show aswell and already asked for the day off months ahead of time. Damn me and my procrastination!!!. This person will pretty much "make it or break it" for me. All though I'm 1000000% she will be down to take my shift.

So to all you West Coast (NorCal, specifically) fuckers...

I know Cali never gets any fucking shows whatsoever, but it would appear that The Nat will be coming to your neck of the woods for a few days during the week of August 15. There is a conference in Palo Alto that I'll be attending on the 16th and 17th, and I plan to arrive on Monday night and return home sometime Thursday (maybe even Friday, if someone can help me justify staying the extra night at my own expense...wink wink nudge nudge ;)).

So what's shakin' that week? Anything good? Who's up for some stalking outside Jackie Gratz's residence? Maybe a trip to the Aquarium by the Bay to finally take Chris Lyman up on his August 2009 offer to give me the behind-the-scenes tour of the facility where he and Aaron Gregory work for their day jobs?

It's different on a part-time thing like you've got right now. You can talk to the bands you care about. It doesn't stay that way if you do it full-time. Reviews start to favour the labels who pay the most in advertising. Cover features are given to unworthy bands for the same reason. You'll be sent out to cover shit you just don't care about and doesn't deserve the coverage in the first place. Etc. etc.

Get a real job ;)

OH WAIT.

THE FUCKING IDIOTS ARE COMING THE SAME NIGHT AS OPETH.

Fuck my life, I am never going to see After the Burial, ever. Especially headlining.

mc chris + mc Lars are coming the same night as Opeth. Good thing I've seen mc chris 3 times and he's gotten progressively worse each time.

Not on here, no. What would be the point? Just to serve everyone's laziness?

How does us wanting you to review the show that you went to make us lazy?
