08/05/11 - God Is An Astronaut @ Bowery Ballroom

!!! too lazy to search info on the rest of the tour but FUCK YES!I'm briefly considering actually praying for that tour to come here.

EDIT:

HOLY SHIT I THINK I FOUND THE DATE FOR HERE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!! Aug 20th at Bottom of the HillLooks like the tentative list of dates / venues is as follows:

August 04 - Middle East - Cambridge, MA
August 05 - Bowery Ballroom - New York, NY
August 06 - Johnny Brenda's - Philadelphia, PA
August 08 - Lee's Palace - Toronto, Ontario
August 11 - Subterranean - Chicago, IL
August 13 - Larimer Lounge - Denver, CO
August 16 - Nectar Lounge - Seattle, WA
August 17 - Dante's - Portland, OR
August 20 - Bottom of the Hill - San Francisco, CA
August 21 - Troubadour - West Holywood, CA

Not looking good for The Nat. I wonder if there is a way I can make the August 11 date work. Maybe if awesome openers are named, it will be worth a try...

EDIT: They need to add a Cleveland date on August 10. Grog Shop, please. :snivel:

Wine, that question mark by Rush in your signature worries me.....

It's a matter of money, I think I should be able to afford some lawn seats, but I'm just not sure. I'm confident I will see Rush someday, but it might not be June.

Nat, where'd you find that list of cities?

We deserve a date in the Pittsburgh/Cleveland area. Post-rock/metal always does well.

^ Word. :fist:

Speaking of which, the upcoming tour / small collection of dates from A Storm of Light doesn't seem to be making its way towards us either. The closest shows are June 12 in Detroit and June 13 in Chicago. Both of which are potentially doable, but the dates are a bit inconvenient and I can't seem to find any info on openers to help make the go / no go decision yet...

EDIT: Looks like it's Tombs. That's not a bad match-up. Hmmm...

Let's put it this way...you will probably see a particularly awesome online review of the upcoming album "Path of Totality" on Jukebox:Metal sometime in the near future (and by "near future", I mean sometime between a week from now and six months from now, depending on the work & family schedule of the unpaid slave writing the review). ;)

There's an indie and punk festival here across a bunch of venues the next couple of days called Stag & Dagger, and my bosses are curating a stage tonight headlined by New Young Pony Club so I'm going to that, then tomorrow night I'm in the process of getting hooked up with an interview with Fucked Up (whose new album rules, by the way) and seeing their night of the fest as well.

Then Rush next week, Vreid/Kampfar the week after, Vader/Krisiun next month, and probably a bunch of shows I don't even know about yet. Once again, fucking love London and my internship.

Working on going to these:
6/18 - Govenors Ball (Big Boi, Girl Talk, Neon Indian, People Under the Stairs, Passion Pit etc.) - Well I don't really like most of these bands but they look fun live and I just want to go to a festival.

6/22 - Sleep, Winter - Mainly just need a ride./people to go with
6/23 - Dinosaur Jr., Fuck Up, OFF! - Same as above
6/24 - Title Fight, Touche Amore, - Will probably go to this.
6/26 - Suffocation - It's local so I am able to easily drive there myself.

June is annoying though. Nothing I'm too interested in the first few weeks, then for some reason everything good is stacked right next to eachother at the end

Right, that's it. Next up, Sweden Rock. Currently shaping up thus:

Day 1:
F.U.C.K. A.L.L.
Worst day line-up in the history of the festival. I think I'll watch Crashdiet and Five Horse Johnson just because they're the two bands on when I arrive, then go crash before the real days start.

Day 2:
Judas Priest
Saxon
The Cult
Accept
Queensryche
Clutch
Buckcherry?
Duff McKagan's Loaded?

Day 3:
Whitesnake
Overkill
Rob Zombie
Mustasch
Down
Iced Earth
Mr. Big
Steelheart

Day 4
Ozzy Osbourne
Rage (acoustic)
Black Label Society
Rhapsody of Fire
Styx
Molly Hatchet
Flasket Brinner
Destruction

EXODUS, DESTRUCTION and HEATHEN will join forces for the Thrashfest Classics European tour, set to take place in November/December. The trek, whose "headliner" will be announced on August 20, will feature EXODUS performing material from the "Bonded By Blood", "Pleasures Of The Flesh" and "Fabulous Disaster" albums; DESTRUCTION playing songs from "Sentence Of Death" and "Infernal Overkill"; and HEATHEN performing selections from "Breaking The Silence" and "Victims Of Deception".

Because Thrashfest is a package 'classics' tour. Its being put together so it will draw anywhere.

Sincerely hope this plays Ireland. Considering I don't think Heathen have ever been here, and Destruction haven't been here since 2008, I reckon its a good possibility.

Summer is looking pretty sweet for me. I'm not really feeling many June shows but July and August I'mma try to go to as much as possible.:
July:
12 - YOB, Dark Castle
15 - A Perfect Circle
16 - COB/Townsend/Obscura/Septic Flesh
19 - AAL/Intronaut
22 - The Glitch Mob, Com Truise, RJD2, Phantogram
28 - Dropkick Murphys
29 - The Flaming Lips, Weezer (?) - I'm not really into them but I have a friend who's interested. So if he gets tickets then I will go with him.

August:
5 - God Is An Astronaut
6 - Rosetta
7 - blink-182
11 - Nas & Damien Marley
13 - Bassnectar Island Fest thing (?) - Pretty cheap for a fest(like $55) and Bassnectar rules but I'm not entirely into going tbh.
18 - KMFDM
20 - Amon Amarth
21 - Pentagram
27 - Afro Punk fest (?) - some free fest with Janelle Monae and Cee Lo Green among others...I'll go if I feel like it but I probably won't since I'm suppose to be moving into college this weekend

September:
3 - Rock the Bells (?) - Probably not since its the first weekend of college and they are having club meetings then and I really need to join stuff. I wish they put the NYC date a week before like last year.

Yes, it's a tour. Exodus, Destruction, Heathen plus an opener and a headliner (which I'm very confident will be Testament).

And, erm, same reason they'll hit several places in Europe two tours in a row? Just because Destruction played somewhere this year doesn't mean a tour they aren't even headlining won't play there.

Unless of course they've booked Russian dates in September because they already know the Thrashfest tour isn't going there...

Aye, I'd definitely be more confident about it with Testament headlining. They can sell pretty well here on their own.

DragonForce is coming to NYC 10/21. Honestly, has anyone gave them an open chance live? I heard that they got better after people gave them shit for not being able to perform as good as the guitar hero peeps claimed. But can anyone confirm that? I never thought they were THAT bad, I have Inhuman Rampage and always remember that being an entertaining listen...but I also hear they got a new vocalist so I'm not sure if I would be into them.

Don't bother. Their live show is horrible. I saw them on Mayhem and just about everything was garbage, especially the vocals. It was cool to see Herman Li play, but besides that, there's nothing else good I can say about their live performance

Goddamn fucking Terror syndrome. :flame: I have no idea whether I still want to go to Rolo Tomassi tonight. On one hand, my girlfriend wants to go and they're not that bad, but on the other hand, I'm flying out to Graspop on the 23rd, the show is on the 22nd (today) and I'm coming down with a slight summer cold. No way in hell do I want to ruin my first festival with sickness :hecho:

I wonder if they'll move it to a smaller venue. That'd be awesome.

edit: wait a second.

"Once more. I am sorry to say all shows after June 26th had to be canceled. It is not because I am sick, it is not because we don't like you, it is not because of any of the rumors.
Things have taken place that made us have to return to the US after the 26th. We hate canceling and feel bad about this. It is a total drag on every level. We were looking forward to all these shows, will return and make it up to you."

Hopefully that just means the Euro shows left in June are canceled

I have a feeling their album will grow on me, and I'll regret not going in the long run.

But I'm going to try to stop thinking about it, and perhaps put that $34 towards other, better, shows that may come along later this year.

To me, the new Krallice sounds like all their other material - technical for the sake of being technical. What am I missing? Somebody point out a track that has some groove to it or something that's more than just showing off, and I'll be glad to take a listen... :eyes:

Having said that, I just listened to "The Clearing", and I'm not so sure that my earlier comments are entirely well-founded. This time, I clearly heard black metal a la Anaal Nathrakh (but with slightly more guttural vocals and slightly less rage), and not really much tech death at all. Maybe I just need to listen to "Diotima" again in its entirety. I may have these guys pegged all wrong - hell, I may even be thinking of another band altogether.

Haha, no clue why I called it "The Cleansing." And I don't know why I said the first few minutes. I meant the last few. The song dissolves and goes out on that catchy groove/rift.

Like I said, I think I'm gonna have to listen to that album some more. I was honestly just looking for some Cliff's Notes type of help in zeroing in on the best parts, because I feel like I might be missing something.
