Oh dear god. You know what? If Zooey Deschanel herself came up to me and said "I will rock your world for an entire weekend, but first you have to go to a Creed concert with me," I would probably still need a day or two to think it over.

Yeah, that pretty much explains it. It's also partially because my internet connection is kinda meh, so it's hard for me to just sit on the computer for hours on end.

And for the record, regarding the hate I'm getting: Creed was the first rock band I ever listened to, and largely because of that, there is a huge amount of nostalgia involved for me. Also, I won't lie, there's a decent chunk of their material (With Arms Wide Open not included) that I can still enjoy. Though I am only going to this because my girlfriend asked me too, I would never be going to a show by a band I have never had any interest in.

They were here with Opeth last year. They were 'special guests' on the tour and it was just the two bands, so Enslaved got a 40-45 minute set. I met Grutle, Herbrand, and Ice Dale afterwards too! They all thought it was funny whenever I told them that the venue used to be a church. I'll go see them no matter what, because they're one of my favorite bands, but like Derelict said, Dimmu just doesn't do it for me anymore. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was their last good album (it is a fucking great album, actually). I used to be real into them, whenever I first started getting into extreme metal, so I would probably stick around to watch them just for the hell of it.

I would much rather have Enslaved do a headlining tour because obviously I want to see them play longer, but when Enslaved headlines they play songs from almost their entire catalogue, I believe, as opposed to only playing their newer, more progressive material. I would love to see a good mixture.

Asked my friend to get my Boris ticket for me when he got his, since he's going too and lives somewhat near to the venue.

Today at 4pm:

Him: Ah dude, btw I didn't have the time to get tix for us, been really busy with classes and such. But the shows didn't sell out, so whatever, right?
Me: *checks site, tickets are still on sale* Yeah, whatever we'll just buy them when we get there. The $2 day-of-show extra charge is still cheaper than any convenience charges or bus/train fares would have been anyway.

2 hours later I'm getting ready to leave and I check the venues site one more time to get the address, since I've never been to this place before and I only know which train stop it's by.... and the show is now sold out. fml

I actually had a really good time. Basically the bands that you mentioned stood out as the best. I didn't pay attention to Norma Jean or Atreyu and I missed Winds of Plague, didn't watch In This Moment either. I was really impressed with Rob Zombie, and Lamb of God was probably my second favorite of the day.

I didn't watch Korn because I was backstage hanging out with Chris Adler for a little bit. While I was back there I also met the other guys from Lamb of God (except for Randy) and John 5. Some guys from FFDP were hanging around back there too. Rob Zombie was kind of a dick and went straight to his bus, then came off to take a picture with a girl who really wanted it, then didn't even look at us and got back on the bus. We were standing two feet away from him too  But I understand they need their privacy.

November 24th (aka my birthday) - TSO

I'm gutted Skolnick's pulled out of TSO. I was really hoping he'd be there for their first ever London show next year.

I saw Meshuggah a couple days before my birthday last year. This year I saw Kreator a couple days after my birthday. But February really sucked with concerts this year.

I just bought tickets to Katatonia on 9/10 and Massive Attack on 10/22, was expensive so hopefully they are worth it.

And I'm pissed that I probably won't get to see Swans since they play on the night before my SAT and the show on the day of my SAT is 21+ -_-

YO, RAVENHEART!!!

...or anybody else in Europe, for that matter:

Looks like I will be crossing the pond in mid-to-late September on business. I'll be in Amsterdam from 18-Sep to 23-Sep for a conference, and then my wife and I are going to stay until 29-Sep or so (our 11th wedding anniversary is 25-Sep, so we thought we'd take a short vacation and let my company pay for part of it! ;)). We might grab a regional flight to one other country and spend a few days in someplace like Rome, but we haven't decided yet.

Which brings me to the obvious question - are there any festivals or shows that I might be interested in, in Amsterdam or anywhere relatively close, during that time frame? I haven't finalized my plans yet, and I'm looking to try working something metal-related in there. Preferences would be for something post-rock related so there'd be a chance my wife would also be interested, but frankly I'd entertain just about any idea (except prog/power).

Anyway, any ideas at all would be appreciated. I've been searching the web and really haven't found anything interesting yet... :snivel:

i didn't read that part. just suprises me how many shows some people within the ages of 16-20 can make. i used to do try doing 1-2 shows at least a month in high school, now it's just maybe once a month. depending if the lineup really interests me, since i've already seen almost every band i want to see, most of them at least a few times.

Yeah, I didn't start going to a ton of shows until I'd left university. Although that was as much to do with the shitty train service into London from my uni as it was to do with money.

Every year mid-July through mid-September is like this for me. And you're right, it seems like a long time. This year I did have a festival at the end of July, which I don't normally, so that was cool. Got one gig next week, which is my only show for August, then nothing until mid-September.

I saw Pumpkins at Lollapalooza 1994 - they were great.

I've always wanted to see Cake, as long as I was already at the show for some better reason. This would qualify. They have some catchy hits.

Smashing Pumpkins were a HUGE disappointment when I saw them a few years ago. They played maybe three great songs, and the rest of the set was obscure shit from Machina: The Machines of God and a couple songs from their last album (which were okay). The set got interrupted because it started raining and the stage got flooded, and the fans got restless and starting chanting and throwing shit on stage, so Billy Corgan came out and yelled at us to "stop throwing shit." They came back, did like 2 more songs, and that was it. I'm 99% positive they purposely cut their set short, because I saw a bunch of acoustic guitars off the side of the stage that they never used.

However, when they got to the big climax of "Tonight Tonight," the rain started really coming down, and it was just perfect timing and very dramatic. One of my favorite concert moments.

Know tons of cool people from going to shows now. My main bro I go to shows with now I met at a Vader show because someone made a 4chan reference and he got it. There's also this old dude with an awesome patch jacket that tells all these crazy stories about old shows.

Overkill, Gwar, Cannibal Corpse w/ Dying Fetus, Black Dahlia Murder, and a few other metal bands are coming to Columbus some time this fall, but I don't give a shit about any of them. Instead, I might go see Dead Prez on Oct. 22, and Jonsi (singer for Sigur Ros) on 11/6. Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax are playing 10/10, but I don't think I'll go. $50 is 1/20 of the money I have right now, and I don't have a job.

I made my blog which pimped every good hard rock/metal show in Kansas, I wrote reviews on all the shows I went to, and I added events to last.fm before most people even knew about them. A guy from the production company here contacted me about a year or so ago, and now we're good friends and (i don't wanna sound like a douche, but) now my blog is kind of big in the KC-area metal scene to find out about upcoming shows. I'm also really good friends with two of KC's biggest metal bands.
