My anime viewing started and ended with Toonami circa 2002. Tenchi Muyo, Outlaw Star, Dragonball Z (of course), Ruroni Kenshin...there were some others, but I can't remember.

Then on Adult Swim I checked out Cowboy Bebop and Witch Hunter Robin, but other than that, I fucking abhor anime now.

no but seriously, it seems all anime today is "lol riceballs japanese humor overly cute and funny ^_^;;; kawaii" or "SUPER FUCKING SERIOUS THIS IS FUCKING SERIOUS YOU NEED A MASTERS DEGREE IN PHILOSOPHY TO APPRECIATE THE DEPTH OF THIS CARTOON" for me. Hey, the bits featuring Muse actually sound heavy and about 50% less horrible than most of their own music! Still have that whole horrible vocals thing. :eyes:

Complete  at some of them - especially at the Disturbed bit. Complete ownage by Russell Allen of course - not to mention it segues into my favorite part of the original song. :D

Yeah, I was gonna warn about the video - it is indeed simplistic and cheesy - but in a way I prefer that to overly stupid concept videos like most bands with ANY sort of a budget insist on making.

I highly recommend the album, and it's actually been pretty easy to get ahold of - lots of US distro places have it for a good price.

That said the best video ever made is Meshuggah's New Millennium Cyanide Christ. A Tour Bus and playing Air Drums, Bass, Guitar and Vocals. Low budget or greatest concept ever...maybe both!

This video is also great for the same reason. And I agree bands with a bigger budget make way shittier videos. When I wake up tomorrow I'll most likely be ordering this album.

Nice! I am trying my best to promote this band - really cool guys. At one of our acoustic shows 6 months ago, my sister and I did a cover of their song "I Believe in Me" from their debut album, posted it on YouTube - and they favorited it and personally emailed us to say 'thank you' and that it was an honor, etc. From that point on I agreed to do everything I could to promote them in America. :D

That is awesome. :rocker:

Just another reason why I should picking up their stuff. It shows they care about their fans, no matter where they are from. I respect that in a band.

I think on Myth Busters they tested that with plants, and the metal ones were very healthy compared to other music genres :horns:

Seven small greenhouses were set up on the M5 Industries roof. Four were set up with stereos playing endlessly looping recordings (as having the Mythbusters actually talk to the plants could contaminate the samples with their expelled carbon dioxide): Two of negative speech, two of positive speech (Kari and Scottie each made one positive and one negative soundtrack), a fifth with classical music and a sixth with intense death metal music. A seventh greenhouse, used as a control sample, had no stereo. The greenhouses with the recordings of speech grew better than the control, regardless of whether such talk was kind or angry. The plants in the greenhouse with the recording of classical music grew better, while the plants in the greenhouse with the recording of intense death metal grew best of all.

You don't know what the fuck you're saying, ever. When you make these ignorant, brainwashed blanket statements, you don't know who you're offending with your stupidity. Guess what, friendo. I plan on working in media for the rest of my life, and we're trying to EDUCATE people, not make them stupid. TV =/= media. In fact, media =/= a real thing. It's the plural of "medium," meaning you're saying newspapers, magazines, television, radio, and town criers are all trying to make you stupid. The only people keeping you stupid are Ron Paul and Jesse Ventura, dude. Get a realistic perspective on life, study a grammar and spelling textbook, and get back to us. Additionally, even if TV has stupid programming, it's not THERE to intentionally make you stupid. It's not like all the TV execs sit in a boardroom and think of how to make America stupid so they can take advantage of them. It's not like kid's shows and reality TV would even play into a plot like that. And it's just another thing conspiracy theorists who think the "powers that be" are out to get them can cite without any factual basis.

How or why are they trying to make people stupid? If people weren't dumb to begin with, they wouldn't starting watching that garbage.

And it doesn't matter how much you read, if its all conspiracy theory CRAP, then you aren't smarter than anyone else.

Also, Jesse Ventura has a TV show about conspiracy theories. That alone pokes a hole in your "TV is trying to cover things up" theory.

This is an extremely silly accusation. You said it in your own post, distraction is the key. TV has no supreme purpose other than to make money. Hate to break it to you friend, but do you know why stupid reality shows dominate tv...? Because they are extremely profitable. Some of them get as many viewers as regular shows, and guess what. No actors to pay, no writers to pay, less sets to build, it's a show that makes itself. When you wonder why these terrible, pointless shows go on TV... the only reason they can exist is because people watch them. All TV, even news... aside from public access shit, exists solely to make money. Just like everything else in the world.

I don't even watch TV, but that much is obvious to me. If TV has anything to do with making people stupid, it's probably due to lazy parenting. Many kids nowadays are brought up in a TV culture, where the TV is like a 3rd parent to them. Rather than doing something constructive, it's easier to just sit a kid in front of a TV and let them zone out for a few hours. People that grow up using all their free time watching TV just to pass time, will probably do that their whole lives... instead of, you know, things that exercise actual mental processes. A conspiracy is a completely unfounded claim. If you just analyze things reasonably, there are no "missing links" that could lead one to believe something particularly shady is going on.

Probably should be legal because it's less intense than alcohol can be, but it doesn't really matter now. It's extremely widespread and available to the point where it's effectively legal. Just don't do it in front of a police officer. That makes it pretty much the same as drinking since you can't drink in public either.

That's just what I think about the legal/government aspect, I really don't want to get into the social aspect because I'm really just not passionate in either direction enough to get caught up in the ensuing argument. :eyes:

My biggest problem with his apparent philosophy was him trying to advocate that pot made your smarter and a better person. I'm willing to withhold judgment and believe that those who smoke it are not necessarily lesser people for it - but advocating that it actually makes you smart and more "enlightened" is an absolutely retarded one. Not to mention that yes - I found it somewhat odd that he claimed to have been regularly smoking pot since he was twelve years old.

true. it doesnt make you "enlightened" (even tho carl sagan did it every day) it just makes you feel happy. so i guess when you feel happy and have that peace of mind you'll tend to think of "enlightened" thoughts, but its not really due to the weed at all.

It isn't funny unless you see me in person, but here it goes....

"So, alot of my life is steeped in irony. For example, the music I listen to is ironic. I like metal music. I listen to black metal, but I'm not black. I listen to power metal, but I'm not very strong.......yeah...really the only one that works is heavy metal."

I forget the others. I also came up with the drunk idea to make landfills more economically and environmentally efficient by compacting the trash very tightly and brinding it, and then stacking them very neatly in rows and columns. They already do that, turns out. Drunk me didn't know that, and was ready to change his career goals to trash maintenance.

Just watched Closer, and I've gotta say I was extremely frustrated with it. Four great performances from Roberts, Portman, Owen, and Law, but as with Requiem for a Dream, I was not rooting for any of the characters and that really hurt my opinion of it. Just like in Requiem, where all of the protagonists could have sought professional help for their drug addictions or looked at the shambles their lives were in and stopped doing the drugs at multiple points in the movie, these four people could have tidily cleaned up all the messes in their lives by just keeping it in their goddamned pants. I'm not at all sympathetic to a bunch of characters whose sole problem is that someone they know is fucking someone they love even though they're also fucking someone that someone they know loves. So instead of enjoying the movie, I'm just frustrated for two hours while these people continue to be totally unlikable pricks. Listen, movies can either be escapist, or not escapist. Escapist movies - and I'm talking westerns, action flicks, any period piece, war movies, fantasy, sci-fi, and the like here - when executed well are great. Movies that are not escapist rely solely upon getting the audience to relate with the characters. And I'm sorry, but drug addicts and compulsive fornicators are not getting my sympathy, not now and not ever.
