Saw "Chronicle" at the theater last night with my wife. We both liked it. It wasn't a blockbuster, but it was pretty good. There were a lot of similarities to films such as "Cloverfield", but the concept was original enough that it was interesting throughout. They also did a good job of revealing just enough in the trailer(s) to pique the audience's interest without giving away the good stuff. The story is quite a bit deeper than what the trailers show.

 What is "new" by their standards? Buckcherry and SOAD are certainly not new. They've been around for over 10 years. Chickenfoot formed recently but it's all well known old guys so I wouldn't count that either. For me to consider a band new they would have had to first form in the past 5 years.

So I just watched 'Drive'. Are you people fucking kidding me?Well, I can kinda see where you're coming from, but I think I have to admit I pretty much liked it. It was different, that's for sure. I liked the musical aspects, wasn't so much of a fan of the visual tricks (like the shitty use of slow motion). It definitely wasn't worth an Oscar, though. I'll agree with you on that score. I didn't hate it, though.

I mostly hated how it wasn't actually all that different, and all of the long silences either didn't make sense (there was no reason for him not to respond to certain things) or completely failed at creating the tension they thought they were creating.

I could go on, as you'd expect.

You'd think so but sadly nope. I'm scared for the Cup semi-final against Milan later this week. Juve took the first leg but I don't know if they'll be able to keep their own offensively. Vucinic is failing imo :(

And I don't know why but Daenerys story line bothers me in the books, I really didn't like her story in book 5. I definitely prefer Tyrion as my favorite character.

This was actually very good. I'm surprised I have never heard about it until today. It's about this aspired serial killer who idolizes iconic slashers such as Jason Vorhees and Freddy Kreuger, he plans his own little legend and gets a documentary crew to follow along with his process. It's very entertaining seeing the movie pan out and it never gets too cheesy even with its concept.

Been trying out a bunch of recommended horror movies from the past couple of years.

May - Black comedy, sort of a modern day Frankenstein type movie about some really shy girl who can't make friends so she decides to create her own by cutting up random parts of people and putting them together. It was entertaining.

Dark Corners - About this girl who lives the perfect life awake, but for some reason every time she falls asleep she becomes this girl who lives in a horrific world where she gets abused and a killer is stalking her. The main problem with this movie was that plot wise it barely made any sense but other than that it was one of the few movies to ever creep me out. Seriously, a lot of the images and scenes succeed in looking terrifying to me. The acting is terrible by everyone, but somehow it just added to how bugged out this movie was.

The Living and the Dead - British horror about this dysfunctional family where the mother is dying from some disease and the son (who is in his 30s) is mentally ill. The son stops taking his medication and decides to take care of his sick mother on his own. I dug it.

(Along with stuff like Goodfellas and Devils Rejects which are my top 2 favorite movies of all time.)Not really trying to play the age card here (or the lack-of-age card, as it were), but I'm honestly, legitimately curious - how does a guy like you who presumably has no prior history with The Muppets become such a big fan of this movie, and by the sound of it, the whole Muppets franchise? I mean, I would expect a college-age male - and a metal-head, no less - to make fun of a movie like this as being cheesy and silly.

At any rate, whatever the reason, I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. Personally, I think one of the main reasons I liked it at all was that I grew up with them as a kid, like I said previously. If it weren't for that, I probably would have just said the movie was just some corny musical with puppets in it (speaking of which, did anybody else pick up on the fact that Jason Segel's character in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" wrote a musical that had extremely Muppet-like puppets in it? Segel must be a total Muppets freak in real life or something...).

I'm not old enough to have watched The Muppet Show when it was on, but I was still pretty familiar with them through the movies (Muppet Christmas Carol being my favorite). I think the Muppets have wide appeal because it's family-friendly humor that's not cheap or easy. Old-school slapstick is pretty universal.

Figured I should watch Thor today since The Avengers is coming up. It was pretty good, not great. The action scenes where Thor had his powers were awesome but the bulk of the movie when he was on Earth was pretty silly.

Soon after I finished watching it I saw that people on the internet who got to go to the preview screening were saying that you really need to see Thor more so than any of the other recent Marvel movies in order to understand The Avengers. Makes sense since Loki is supposed to be the main villain.

Both shows are pretty sweet. Fuck those nostalgia fags who say every kids cartoon after the 90's sucks. Adventure Time and Regular show are better than most of the 90's Nickelodeon/Cartoon Network shows.

I concur. The only cartoon from the 90's that I'd say is on the level of AT or RS is Spongebob.

Spongebob isn't even really a 90's cartoon. I think it first started in '99. The best cartoons from the 90's were Ren n' Stimpy and Courage the Cowardly Dog IMO. It really rustles my jimmies when self proclaimed "90's kids" (born in '95 and don't really have any memories of the 90's) talk about fucking CatDog and The Angry Beavers like they were the pinnacle of animated television and will never be topped. Those shows were only seemed good because we were 8 and we would watch anything. If you try to watch CatDog now you would realize it's god awful.

I guess you have a point there. Rocko's Modern Life and Courage the Cowardly Dog are two that I forgot that are ace. I hardly even remember Angry Beavers to be honest, and I agree with you on CatDog.

That being said, Adventure Time is awesome. Never seen Regular Show, but the ads for it made it look retarded (literally).

It's all about Ren and Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead and Baby Blue for me. Personally, I dig CatDog, and Hey Arnold, and all that stuff, I think it's aged well. I never got into Spongebob, it still goes over my head. Adventure Time is decent alright!

:lol: At least he was honest.

Yeah, Gina is a terrible actress - but I don't htink anyone expected her to be good in that regard. The movie was a custom-made vehicle to get her up there on the big screen kicking the asses of some very famous actors, and on that shallow note, I think we can agree the movie basically works. Beyond that, one shouldn't expect much, though.

I concur. The only cartoon from the 90's that I'd say is on the level of AT or RS is Spongebob.Aqua Teen and Ren & Stimpy are teh shit. I used to hate Spongebob, but since my five-year-old son watches it non-stop I have started to like it. Ditto for Adventure Time.

Also, as one or more folks have said, Beavis and Butthead are also teh shit.

It makes me really sad that everyone always mentions Adventure Time and Regular Show when they think about good current-gen cartoons, but completely forget Flapjack and Chowder, which were much, much better than AT and RS. AT and RS are good but it seems they rely too much on QUOTABLE and LOL POP HUMOUR REFERENCES.

Flapjack is decent but Chowder is unbearable to me because of the animation style.

Chowder was good. It's just not on very often, so I never watch it.

But I think we all know that the best current-gen cartoon is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ;)

Nope. All of them are. Deep down inside, there is some subconscious sexual desire if you are a post-puberty male watching it. You can deny it, but it's there.

This is one of the best videos I've ever seen for a show I've been at. I love how at 50 seconds, all shit hits the fan and people go nuts. This was the "chickenfighting wall of death" with people on eachothers shoulders. Just got done watching X-Men First Class for the first time. I liked it and it's possibly the best X-Men movie (close with X-Men 2) but similar to the Wolverine prequel (which was pretty awful btw) it brings up tons of plot holes. It annoys me how in the prequels they establish strong relationships between the characters but then in the core trilogy they act like they never met.

Watched 2 movies recently.

Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie - Pretty funny and also pretty disturbing at some points. I'm not gonna go into detail and spoil it for people who haven't seen the movie but the scene with the shrim bath was very uncomfortable. I was pretty surprised with the cast for this one. It's a fairly low budget Adult Swim movie that only had a limited release but John C. Reily plays one of the main characters. Will Ferrel and Zach Galafonakis have pretty decent sized roles as well. It's on Netflix now for anyone who wants to see it. I don't even watch the show that much and I enjoyed the movie.

Drive - I decided to check this one out since everyone on the internet already thinks it's one of the greatest movies of all time. I thought it was pretty good but I don't think it's as good as everyone has been saying. It was a little hard to follow at some points but by the end I had it figured out. I remembered hearing it was really violent and half way through I was thinking "what the fuck was that guy talking about?" but the 2nd half of the movie was brutal. I even cringed at a few of those kills.

The Tim and Eric movie was hilarious. I do agree it is a little bit disturbing, but it didn't disappoint me at all as a big fan of the show. The scenes were they meet Will Ferrell's character for the first time and Taquito dies are priceless.

Drive is also great. I loved the style it was shot in and the acting was fantastic. The fact that's it's a brutal romantic drama makes it that much better. Saying it's one of the greatest movies of all-time is a stretch (Hell it didn't even make my top 10 for last year and I've seen 125 movies from 2011 now), but i still thoroughly enjoyed it.
