Trying to finally finish up The X-Files. Got about a season and a half to go.

Want to hear my insane, half-baked pop culture conspiracy theory? Most X-Files episodes were the "monster of the week," dealing with some supernatural phenomenon, or, most frequently, a person with a genetic abnormality/mutation. SO, I posit that The X-Files takes place in the same universe as the X-Men. Of course, it doesn't really work since in the X-Men world, mutants are "out" and known to exist by humans, so none of these things would seem out of the ordinary to Mulder and Scully, but it's still fun to think about :D

Day of The Dead remake.

OK as zombie action movies go, but obviously didn't have the budget for great effects. That's not really that big a deal though. The bigger problem is that they only made a vague attempt at preserving the idea of the Bud character, then sacrificed it all for an unnecessary for a big-action ending. A bit of a waste.

SMALL SPOILER:

I saw Paul as well. I spent the first half of movie saying, "Hey! Seth Rogen's voice, Jason Bateman, Jeff Tambor, Jane Lynch, Pegg/Frost, David Koechner, Bill Hader, Joe Lo Truglio. This is going to be funny." And it really wasn't. It wasn't awful, per se, just not laugh out loud funny. I don't watch a lot of alien movies, so maybe I didn't pick up on a few things (like Weaver at the end...didn't know who she was, and had to look her up to know she was the "sci-fi queen.")

And yeah, I can see how it wouldn't be as funny if you don't catch all the references (I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in the theater who recognized the Mos Eisley cantina music playing in the redneck bar, because I was the only one laughing my ass off). I thought Seth Rogan doing the voice would be distracting, but he did a good job.

The very short first seasons of Michael & Michael Have Issues and The League are up and both very funny.
I watched The League the other day. It's pretty funny, but sometimes it feels like "Always Sunny with football."

If you like sci-fi with some real life theories like telekinesis, pyrokinesis, dark matter, etc. I highly suggest Fringe.

Fringe is an American science fiction television series created by J. J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The series follows a Federal Bureau of Investigation "Fringe Division" team based in Boston, Massachusetts under the supervision of Homeland Security. The team uses unorthodox "fringe" science and FBI investigative techniques to investigate a series of unexplained, often ghastly occurrences. The show has been described as a hybrid of The X-Files, Altered States, The Twilight Zone and Dark Angel.

Better Off Ted. Pretty funny. One comment, not really a complaint, and its hard to say this without sounding homophobic. I can tell Jonathan Slavin, the guy that plays Phil, is gay. I don't know how he talks outside of acting, and maybe its intentional, but anytime he talks to Lem or talks about his wife, I just can't believe that he is heterosexual. Again, not really a complaint because his sexuality isn't important to the show. Its just distracting. Maybe I'm confusing his character's passive attitude with effeminacy. I don't know.

Good show though. :D

Maybe I'm just getting more easy-going in my old age. :D

---

Oh, and the wife "forced" me to watch "Love and Other Drugs" last night. I'm pretty glad she did. Not only is Anne Hathaway pretty hot in it (and nude several times, by the way :rocker:), but the story is fairly decent as well. I mean, I knew every bit of the story fifteen minutes ahead of time as it was unfolding, but this movie wasn't supposed to be "Inception". It's "Anne Hathaway is a near-nympho with some serious health issues, and she has lots of great snappy dialog and gets naked and has sex a bunch of times"...and in that context, the film worked just fine for me. :D

In other words, low expectations saved the day once again - it was two hours (almost) well spent. :fist:

You know, I'm a Will Ferrell apologist to some degree; I enjoy a lot of his stuff and I think he's funny. But he's been absolutely dreadful in this. His character is pointless, uninteresting, and practically brings the whole show to a screeching halt. Really, really glad that's only on for one more episode.

An old James Wood movie simply called 'Cop'.

Just watched a more recent JCVD movie called 'The Shepherd: Border Patrol' which was, of course, pretty ordinary.

Yesterday I had a ton of TV to catch up on:

Justified season 2 finale (I think)
Mad Love (2 episodes)
Breaking In (1)
Breakout Kings (2)
Nurse Jackie (1)
Modern Family (1)
Game of Thrones (1)

Tonight I'm going to try to watch some Deadliest Catch and maybe last night's Fringe.

Justified season 2 finale (I think)Nope, season finale is next week. It's called "Bloody Harlan," so I think we're going to see quite the body count.

I just got done watching Seth Meyers' and President Obama's bits from the White House Correspondence Dinner. Meyers KILLED.

"Recently, Donald Trump said 'I have a great relationship with the blacks.' Though unless 'the Blacks' are a family of white people, I bet he's mistaken."

"Tim Pawlenty is running for president. If you look up boring in the dictionary, that's more exciting than listening to Tim Pawlenty."

Obama was damn funny too, and he ripped into Trump just as bad. The best part was the reaction shots of Trump, sitting there pouting and not even cracking a smile at anything. What a humorless self-important fuckbag.

A-fucking-men. Aside from possibly the "True Grit" remake, it's by far the best Western since the '70s.

These things are dangerous. Its a rebuttal against a legitimate, and well-intentioned public campaign to address a real problem. I know people in real life who eat like Morgan Spurlock did, and films like Fat Head justify that existence by providing some response to the shame and guilt of being a fat sack of shit. Let the scientists and doctors fight over what food is the best for you; filmmakers have no business instructing the public on matters like that.

That being said, I may actually watch it over the weekend. But the first 5 minutes already put me off.

the only reason i found it was because i heard he promotes the science behind a similar eating style to mine so i wanted to see what was up, i could care less about either filmmaker's agenda. his nutrition info is on the money though, and he doesnt spend the whole film defending fast food, he just uses that to open up his argument that proper diet is more complicated than just blaming chain restaurants. all-in-all, id say theres more useful nutrition info in this movie than super size me, the main argument comes in around 12 mins or so.

How would you describe your eating style? I'm curious. This stuff all fascinates me.

EDIT - Alright. This movie is annoying me. He's going on about "big government" and ignoring the severe degradation in food quality. And he harps on the false dichtomy of cheeseburgers versus tofu. I don't eat cheeseburgers, and I HATE tofu. As long as people continue to think that the only option they have besides junk food is super hippy food, then they're never going to even take baby steps to fix their diet.

same here, been researching this for a while now, it is interesting stuff.

basically i believe that our bodies are best designed to handle what we ate for thousands of years when humans were hunter-gatherers. so i try to eat mostly whole foods that you can find available in nature and would have been available to pre-agriculture humans, mostly plants and meat. very little refined sugars, and almost no breads/pastas/anything made from grains (including corn). i eat starchy veggies like potato or white rice rarely because its high in carbs but still natural.

the main science behind this is that carbs cause your body to produce a lot of insulin. while that is active in your bloodstream your body will not burn any stored fat and instead try to metabolize the carbs for fuel, if your body doesnt need that fuel at the time it then converts it to lipids and stores it in your fat cells. this is why even tho vegetarians eat such little fat and appear skinny, they have high bodyfat percentages and little muscle.

once your body gets used to eating low carbs and high fat it goes into a metabolic cycle called ketosis, where your body relies on fat for fuel instead of carbs. some people believe it is unhealthy, but i dont. ive been eating this way for over a year now and always feel full of energy and alert. i also have maintained under 10% bodyfat while eating lots of meat w/ trimmings, full fat milk & yogurt, nuts, and doing no cardio other than walking around (i work out, but its all strength-building exercises). for specifics, i try to eat 1g of protein per lb of lean body mass, which is around 150 right now. it can be tricky because your body can really only absorb about 35-40g per meal, so you have to space out your meals properly. im pretty thankful for protein shakes, otherwise trying to eat that much would be pretty expensive, hahah.

So, Primal/Paleo diet? I've read all of what you just said before, and I would consider the diet if meat wasn't so expensive and I had a stove/grill.

And I love protein shakes. But I just ran out of whey though, so I'm screwed til I can get to a store.

Yea, this stuff really works, i gotta say if it werent for the dining hall (and me smuggling tupperware containers of grilled chicken and steak) i wouldnt be able to afford this easily.

then again, you can always grab some bacon or chop meat when its on sale and freeze it, bags of frozen vegetables arent too expensive either.

It's literally taken 90 minutes to tell 5 minutes of storyline.

The main problem seems to be Keitel's script has him saying every fucking line in the movie four times.
