You won't be finding a fluoride filter for a cheap price. There are water bottles that filter fluoride and they cost about $35. That's the best you can get. Fuck brita it won't get the fluoride out.

I have a filter for tap water just because it tastes better. Chemicals or no, water isn't hurting my body in any way (at least a proven way, or way that it damages me enough to give a shit), I just think filtered water tastes better. And yeah, a normal filter is relatively cheap.

The tap water in San Jose doesn't taste good, but I keep some in the fridge at all times which makes it a little better. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason anyone can tell the difference with pitcher filters.

I simply don't drink bottled water because it's a huge waste of resources. Yeah you can recycle the plastic, but that takes energy. The worst is the amount it takes to produce and transport.

Not to mention you can't really re-use those cheap bottles. Scientists don't know for sure yet, but some of those plastics break down into carcinogens after a few uses.

"I am going to rain down upon you so hard you'll have to be reassembled by fucking air crash investigators."

"He's as useless as a marzipan dildo."

"I will remove your iPod from its tiny nano sheath and push it up your cock! And then I'll plug some speakers up your arse and put it on shuffle with my fucking fist! And every time I hear something that I don't like, which will be every time that something comes on, I will skip to the next track by crushing YOUR balls!"

Well, obviously Jennifer Garner sucks, but that's not really a surprise. Michael Cera is playing Michael Cera. Again, no surprise.

Ellen Paige is clearly good, I just don't like the character at all.

The only one who seems capable of delivering a line is J.K. Simmons. And Jason Bateman, I guess. But his character is kind of forcing him to be understated.

Fanboys - very funny if you get all the Star Wars references etc. If you're not a Star Wars fan, I would imagine it's pretty pointless. I haven't watched any of them for a long time, but when I was a kid I watched them A LOT and I remember the Episode 1 frenzy.
What Just Happened - Boring. With that cast it should have been an classy riot, but it's not.
City of Ember - Disappointing. Seen the idea before, and it was fairly well done but needed something sharper.
The Last Mimzy - surprisingly good. Fairly original idea, well acted, superb debut for Rhiannon Leigh Wryn.

Watched Once Upon a Time in America and The Matrix today.

The former was amazing, seriously one that will have me thinking about the entire medium of film for some time. Easily Leone's second best film after TGTBATU, and that's not a slight against any of his other films in the least.

The latter disappointed the living shit out of me. That's a modern classic? Bullshit. Not one good performance in the bunch, clumsiest social commentary I've ever seen, and it did not have me interested in its mythology one bit. Thank God Inception came along and made a smart, mind-bending, layers-of-worlds action flick that didn't make me want to gouge my own eyes out.

I 'ed when I read your comment about "not one good performance". Yeah, no shit. It's Keanu Fucking Reeves. Also, I don't believe it was supposed to be a social commentary, either. This film was never meant to be Oscar bait, or an art house flick. It's a sci-fi thriller with cool-ass special effects and some good fight scenes, that became a cult classic and spawned two mediocre sequels. That's it. I don't ever remember hearing anybody describe it as a "modern classic" - I sure as shit would never say that. I did like it, though. The two sequels, less so.

I think way too many people like it, and it got too much mainstream attention, to be considered a cult classic.

That being said, I've only seen the cool scene where Keanu and the babe are walking through security and kill all the guards. Pretty cool, but I have no desire to see the rest of it.

I think way too many people like it, and it got too much mainstream attention, to be considered a cult classic.I'll stipulate. What I probably should have said was more along the lines of, "it started off as a cult classic and then everybody and their brother had to go and see it".

Also, after thinking about it more, I think maybe what Brad is pissed about is that way too many fickle teenage males and middle-aged sci-fi nerds think it's the best thing since sliced bread, and it isn't. I would actually agree with that. I have also heard all kinds of theories about how there are a bunch of closeted religious / pseudo-spiritual references embedded in it, and while I'll admit I haven't delved very deeply into any of those theories in order to disprove them (simply because I don't give a fuck), I've never bought into any of that shit.

I just saw the movie in the theater when it came out - pre-hype - and liked it well enough. I bought the DVD, and I watch it from time to time. It's interesting eye candy to me, and stylistically it's kinda cool. That's about it.

There were some cool action scenes, yes, but they didn't exactly justify the bad performances (not just Keanu, either - everybody except the dude who plays Teddy in Memento was bad.) or the fact that the plot was a pretty dull construction in my opinion. Oh, the world is a computer program? That could have been a ten minute short film, but thanks.

But maybe expectations were the problem. If I saw this on the list around #250 I might say "Yeah, decent sci-fi flick, I can get behind that," but 24th puts it one step behind Psycho and one step ahead of the Usual Suspects, and, uh, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

:2cents:

EDIT: As to the social commentary, the Netflix sleeve promised it would be there! :eyes: But I read into it from Agent Smith's speech about humanity being a virus and Morpheus' whole obsession with "freeing your mind" from the (presumably government?) people running the Matrix. Didn't care for it, but maybe it wasn't as important as it seemed to me.

I think it's a great movie, and I suspect the reason it's so high is because of how groundbreaking the special effects were at the time (though maybe people are overinflating that aspect of it quite a bit). #24 IS a little high; but I would be fine with it being in the 60-100 area.

I think the problem, Brad, is you're turning into way too much of a film snob ;)

the movie came out in 1999. back then it was a cool idea because the latest technology was the N64 and the only other movie to really do that was Tron, and that was a disney film so it had to maintain a family friendly atmosphere. if you were 12 when you saw the matrix you would probably have been impressed with the cool parts and not have been critical enough to have been bothered by the shortcomings.

No, I enjoy the movies....but its taking forever.

Actually, I think it would have been better in shorter installments that resulted in a longer finished project. Jackson left out a lot of explanation and mythology...it seems like every 30 minutes they are introducing a new place/city/king and I have no idea who they are, their back story....or even how to spell their names. Too much mythology in too little time.

After re-reading the books recently, I'd have to agree. Also, Jackson did a horrible job of explaining the fight between Gandalf and the Balrog. I prefer the extended cuts more often than not; they're longer, yeah, but the pacing is improved and Jackson doesn't have to cut stuff that he thought was important enough to shoot. They're even kind of fun with the commentary on to hear what all is new and why it was cut in the first place. Been years since I've watched them that way though...

Happy note in the sense that that money will last her about a month and then she's right back where she started. The unbreakable cycle of ignorance and poverty is what made it so crushing for me, as painful as some of the more visceral scenes were.

And Portman definitely deserves it over Lawrence, but I have no problem calling her performance second-best.

I also watched Inception the other night.

It was also OK. WWWAAAYYYYYY over-rated, in my opinion. Sexy to look at? Sure. Thought-provoking? I guess. Characters drew me in and demanded my attention? Not really. The whole movie was about the convoluted dream-within-a-dream-within-a-dream-within-a-dream-within-a-dream-within-a- aw, who gives a fuck. Characters sucked. Acting was par (at best). If it wins any Oscars, though, I will have to beat someone to within an inch of his life.

Also watched "Easy A" recently. That movie was surprisingly good. Not at all what I was expecting. No sooner did I start thinking "this movie is the 'Breakfast Club' of the 2000's," then BAM! - they started making Breakfast Club references right there within the movie itself.

TL/DR: Easy A >> Inception > Salt

Summer wasn't hypocritical for getting married when she said she didn't believe in love; she just hadn't found the right person, and that included Tom.

I guess I'm old fashioned and don't understand the 'casual' thing. I know people do it, but I have a hard time detaching the idea of sex and love. Not just that, but having sex + hanging out all around town like best friends, but not being in a "relationship." I guess that's the point of the movie, to think about that. I can empathize with Tom, because she was hardly straight forward. Mixed signals galore.

My buddy has been dealing with something like this for the past few months. Every single person that has observed him and this girl interacting thinks that they are dating. They flirt like crazy, do "best friend" stuff every single day, they're always in each others room....and every time he has confronted her about taking it further, she shoots him down. He's confided in me, and I can see it in his face, that it tears him up inside. If I were him, I would distance myself from her to prevent that heartache, but her continued flirtation towards him is irresponsible as well.

I don't know, I'm ranting at this point, but I would hate to be stuck in a situation like that. Not that I don't like having girls as friends, but I'd rather declare "we will never have sex or be in a relationship" so I can decide whether I want to be around this person ever again. If I approach a girl as a potential love interest, I'm probably not that interested in taking the silver medal and just being her friend. That's a waste of my time. I have friends to be friends with. I hate ambiguity. If Tom is going to have sex with Summer, then its kind of bullshit for her to not understand why he would want to make something of it. If I was him, I would have said "Okay, you don't want a relationship. I never want to talk to you ever again. Good bye."

(500) Days of Summer. Jesus, I'm only half way through...but Katy Perry's character seems like a really awful person. This just gets me depressed, even more than actually thinking about my failures with girls. Mind games suck.

Good movie though. :D

lol yeah. I mean they had the most annoying voices ever which just gave me even more of a headache. I couldn't understand anything they were saying for the most part. Besides that, the movie didn't really have anything of my interest. I'm not really a fan of westerns, Jeff Bridges, Coen Brothers etc. It may be a great movie, just not a movie for me.

Mixed signals galore.

everyones different. some people place a great deal of importance on having a rich sex life, others dont really care.

i feel that if people have to have cold emotionless sex with strangers because they cant handle a relationship then thats their problem. those type of people get my sympathy because they use sex to compensate for true self confidence. there are of course the people who are just obsessed with sex to a point of near addiction, but i feel people for the most part use it as a crutch for self-esteem and are just fooling themselves, especially in college.

its a tough subject to analyze tho because you have to take into consideration so many different perspectives at once and see how they could all relate to each other.

for example, i don't see it too uncommon for a girl to sleep around and then suddenly feel used when the one guy she really likes has no interest in her. its almost as if you wish they'd have realized that if you give yourself up for sex too easily then you're going to get played. in fact, you're basically making yourself the perfect target for players. i shake my head when i see girls go "i really like you but i dont want to have sex unless were going out". why not just say "if you tell me this lie we can go have sex". after this happens too much it can make a lot of women lose their minds, which is why there are no sane middle aged women.

then again, a lot of negative criticisms against sex come from guys and girls who are just bitter for some reason or another. maybe someone has a really good point, or maybe theyre just angry they got rejected. you really gotta take it as a case by case issue since everyones got different views and histories.

This week's Outsourced was actually pretty funny. So was The Office.

I don't think I watch any shows on TV anymore, besides sports. If it isn't on Hulu or dailyshow.com/colbertnation.com, or netflix, then I don't watch it.

Solid flick, though. Not a disappointment by any means. Cool soundtrack, too.
