London Calling is pretty hard to categorize. No two songs sound the same, and there's so many different styles thrown in. You've got reggae, jazz, rock, punk, blues, ska, pop, and sometimes all the same song. Best album ever.
Brad, your next purchase should be their self titled. Preferably the UK version. Give 'Em Enough Rope is a solid choice too.

I'm not an expert, the only other one I have is their first s/t LP. It's more raw, I personally think it's more punk rock than London Calling. I know Combat Rock is supposed to be good as well, but I don't think I've ever heard it.

I was thinking Combat Rock for the presence of two huge hits. Would that be a bad choice?

Everything besides the s/t, Give 'Em Enough Rope, and London Calling is hit and miss at best, mediocre at worst. Sandinista! has some good stuff on it, but some of it's just bizarre.
EDIT: No, I don't think Combat Rock is worth it just for those two songs. You'd be better off getting The Essential Clash or something similar.

Wow. I heard the amazing intro to this, and I thought about how this was "out of style" in the early nineties. Apparently record company suits thought people didn't want to buy this anymore in favor of alternative crap. The only reason the fucking hipster crown was buying that is because that's what the record companies were forcing down everyone's throat. "Oh rock music without the technique, now we can all be lazy and play shitty!" Fucking cocks.
