Ok, here it is in a nutshell. At this point in time Manowar has become so caught up in their own formulas that they've lost sight of what makes their music great. They no longer seem to be able to express the ass-kicking riffs and attitude they once possessed, so all that's left is the cheese and excesses. This is really demonstrated by the fact that about 45% of the album's running time is consumed by pointless, inane interludes that neither advance the album musically nor conceptually, nor do they hold any musical worth on their own. They're trying to do a classical-scale metal album, and they simply have absolutely no idea what they're doing. They try to use some of the standard elements of a concept album--such as recurring themes--but fail miserably. Simply repeating the same exact interlude ("Army of the Dead") later in the album is NOT artistic or impressive in any way. They manage to integrate the same "Army of the Dead" vocal lines into the song "Odin," which actually would have worked nicely, except it brings that exact interlude's total count on the album to three. If they had cut the repetition in "Army of the Dead Part 2" it may have worked. But again, they don't know what they're doing. They wanted to write something epic, but the utterly shameful, embarassing interlude "The Blood of Odin" demonstrates perfectly that they no longer have any idea what epic is, though they probably think they've captured it perfectly. Joey DeMaio telling me what he read about Odin on Wikipedia in a retarded voice with the pitch shifted down is NOT epic. Jesus fucking christ.

And then there's that bonus track tacked on the end. It's a catchy pop-metal anthem. But they ripped off the fucking Kashmir riff. What the hell were they thinking?
