I am wondering if there are any bands/albums that you can recommend that are prog metal/rock that are largely or completely instrumental. Is there such a thing? Thanks in advance for your help:)

I was trying to stay away from post-rock/metal because that opens a thousand possibilities, but since you opened the floodgates:

Godspeed! You Black Emperor

Pelican. "The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw" is a fantastic album, and there's no vocals.

I'd be here all day, but I will say that judging by what I gather of your music tastes you will likely not enjoy any of the bands listed so far except Liquid Tension Experiment, whom I know you are already familiar with. For you to start I recommend Canvas Solaris' "Penumbra Diffuse" highly, I can even send it to you if you'd like

That would be Terry Bozzio - he is an amazing drummer.

I was thinking Trey, looks like I was close. :D

What else has he been involved in?

Edit: Canvas Solaris seems cool! I can't find any samples from "Penumbra Diffuse" but "Sublimation" sounds good! Do you know if the two albums are very different?

Their established style is basically that jazzy progressive death metal thing sans vocals, so I don't think it changed much judging from the songs I have downloaded from 'Sublimation'.

I would recommend most Meshuggah albums, especially Chaosphere. However, it does have vocals throught most of the album.

Though not quite progressive metal, you might want to pick up a couple of Buckethead CD's: The Elephant Man's Alarm Clock and Crime Slunk Scene. Zero vocals and mind blowing guitar.
