I probably made a thread like this before, but if it was so long ago that I'm not sure, then I guess it really doesn't matter, huh? Anyways, list your favorite female vocalists, regardless of genre. Here's mine:

Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney)
Regina Spektor
Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls)
Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill/Le Tigre)
Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kiley)
Stevie Nicks
Lady Sovereign
Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney)

Frankly, I find most female metal vocalists to all sound pretty much the same, except Angela from Arch Enemy, but there's nothing really unique about her growling other than the fact that she's a woman.

Oh, and if it's not obvious what band they're in, add that too.

Tarja Turunen ( Ex- Nightwish )

Kimberly Goss ( Sinergy )

Katarina Lilja ( Therion )

Simone Simons ( Epica )

She's got some serious pipes for sure. Just not my cup of tea. Same goes for Kelly Clarkson.

True, but let's keep this thread from going down that road please.

Yeah I realized after posting that, it was ill-timed. My bad. :allan:

I'm not talking about that. I'm not a fan of the actual music, but she can sing like few people can.

Hmmm, I don't really see what makes her different from any other female pop stars. Can you elaborate?

Angela has a good growl, no matter what anyone thinks. I also like Kim Goss from Sinergy, Lori from Acid King, Valendis Suomalainen from Herem, Laurie Shanaman from Ludicra, Carline from Lethian Dreams, Aurielle Gregory from Giant Squid, Laura Nichol from Light This City, and Camella Grace from Butcher.

Speaking of Kim Goss from Sinergy, I watched a live video bootleg of Sinergy from some festival in 2002 today, and Kim is possibly the WORST live singer I've ever heard. :hecho:

Yes indeed. And to think, you haven't even seen the performance of "For Every Tear That Falls" on the DVD, my primary reason for liking her.

I've seen the regular music video for it. Amazing tune.

No, that title definately belongs to Timo Kotipelto.

Indeed it is, though I feel the live version is a lot better.

Well, I think it probably seems that way since you were at the show. It always sounds 5 times as good when you're there. He did sound pretty good when I saw them in fall 05 though... But I've heard a lot of bootlegs and such where he can sound very godawful.

Maybe he just has more off-days than most singers.
