JON OLIVA'S PAIN, the solo project of SAVATAGE mastermind Jon Oliva, has announced the first U.S. date in support of its sophomore album, "Maniacal Renderings". The band will play the Bourbon Street Nightclub in New Port Richey, Florida on Saturday, November 25. Support at the show will come from MONEYSHOT and FIRST BORN.

As previously reported, "Maniacal Renderings" has entered the German national chart at position No. 86. The follow-up to 2004's "'Tage Mahal" was once again recorded at Audio Lab Studios in Tampa, Florida and is described in a press release as "a more progressive, complex and dramatic edge without sacrificing any of the songwriting quality that fans have come to expect during Oliva's 25-year career." 14 songs were released in three different versions for Europe, Japan and the U.S. Four songs from the CD "Through the Eyes of the King", "Playing God", "Push It to the Limit" and "Maniacal Renderings" are available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. An EP, "Straight-Jacket Memoirs", consisting of two new studio tracks and two live tracks from the 2006 tour was made available in June when the band performed at the Bang Your Head!!! festival in Germany.

JON OLIVA'S PAIN has been confirmed as the headliner of next year's ProgPower Europe festival, set to take place October 7, 2007 in Baarlo, Holland. He has also has been confirmed as the headliner of next year's ProgPower UK festival, set to take place March 31, 2007 in Chelltenham, England. Also scheduled to appear are SCAR SYMMETRY, CLOUDSCAPE, DREAMSCAPE and HAGGARD.

They're a sweet live band, but I think their new album is basically the same thing as their first one. I always thought it was a weird band name though...

He's cool and all, but... he has a real problem not repeating himself. Listen to "Through The Eyes of the King" then "Hall of the Mountain King" then ponder the differences for a while ;)

Well...listen to the entire Streets album and tell me it isn't one of the greatest concept albums of all time :D

Hey, your way is easier. In fact, you might as well just listen to Hall of the Mountain King and pretend it was released yesterday. You'd definitely save money, and really... what would the difference be?

Anyone have any questions I could ask the band?

You can slap Jon across the face for trying to pass off Jon Oliva's Pain as Savatage in the near future as I've heard he's trying to do.

Run away quickly afterwards. As far as I know, he lacks the ability to move.

The thing about a lot Savatage is that they like to play on their past. Hence why the first JOP album is called "Tage Mahal"...

And yes, if Jon actually thinks he can just rename JOP Savatage and just keep going, I will be eternally pissed. If that happens I hope Chris Caffery beats the living crap out of him.

And Jeff, like I said, tell Jon about the Criss Oliva tribute we're putting together... I think he'd appreciate knowing that people care.

And like I said, tell him the Nutrisystem Diet is now for men too.
