Horrendous generated a lot of buzz with their 2012 debut album, The Chills, which was reminiscent of the early '90s Swedish death metal scene. Now their sophomore effort, Ecdysis, is on the way. The release date is Oct 14 on Dark Descent.

Listen to "Nepenthe" here: https://soundcloud.com/decibel-streaming/horrendous-nepenthe

Sound wise the new song is much like The Chills, but stylistically it expands on the melodic elements of the album. I think Ecdysis could turn out to be a very interesting release.

Definitely more of a melodic sound than The Chills. Looking forward to this!

That's some awesome artwork. I find these guys criminally boring though.

This album is unlike anything I've ever heard. I'm not a hype-train guy, but this album lives up to it. Really fantastic death metal with a lot of twists and turns.

Another new song, "The Stranger," has been released here (http://www.stereogum.com/1702806/horrendous-the-stranger-stereogum-premiere/mp3s/). It sounds even more melodic than the previous song. Perhaps a bit too melodic for my taste, but maybe it will grow on me in time.

This is probably my favourite song on the album other than the two instrumentals, which are in no way death metal but still awesome.
