Listening to it for the second time and I really, really don't like it. At all.

I've never had a problem with Slipknot before, they've put out some stuff I haven't liked before.

The sound affects annoy the fuck out of me, the snare sounds like Lars' St. Anger snare, and the rest of it sounds like something rehashed between the self-titled and Iowa albums.

Maybe the rest of the album will be better, but this isn't good.

I won't lie, even as a Slipknot fan I was expecting somewhat of a train wreck, but this song is actually pretty damn decent. Then again, I dug the hell out of "All Hope is Gone" when that was released, and the rest of the album turned out to be a mixed bag. So yeah, we'll see. But after 2 listens i'm digging some parts of the song. And while Corey doesn't sound necessarily great, I expected a lot worse from his scream given how he's sounded live over the last few years, so he pulls out a good vocal performance on this one. That snare drum is sounding odd, though.

Now, if they can just let us know who's drumming for them now. Or just what happened with Joey. You know, something they promised would be spoken about like 8 months ago.

Honestly, I thought it started out ok. It sounds a lot like their S/T and Iowa sound, especially with the scratching from DJ PanteraFan666, but then it just started to drag after the halfway point and I got bored.... So will I buy this album?

This is coming from a huge Slipknot fan. I think it's just OK. Maybe it'll grow on me. The good thing is though, it's sounds like an Iowa-era tune. Which is my 2nd favorite album of their's, just behind ST.

it's....ok....some good stuff but the sound effects drag it down, maybe it will translate better live...

As far as who the new drummer is.....based on the track record so far, he(she?) won't be revealed until the first show of 2014

OR

the drummer will be hidden behind the stage

I'm with the masses on this one.

I like a majority of Slipknot stuff, but this is just OK. Sounds to me like Clown just got carried away and the distortion is at times too much.

Verdict still out for me.

Lyrics, if anyone cares.

http://rock.genius.com/Slipknot-the-negative-one-lyrics

I know a lot of people don't like Corey's lyrics, but i've always found them to be quite good. Especially with the way he sings, they really grab you and suck you in, somehow. Plus one thing that he's improved on, for the most part, is being able to write lyrics without having to rely on saying "fuck" 30 times a song.

Other way round for me. Negative One is dull; it just sounds like retreading ground. Devil In I sounds different and actually has some interesting parts. It's too long though, so repeats itself too much.

As for the album, shit cover but very appropriate title on more than one level.

So, yeah, listened to that new song again, still meh, but as for drummers, I have a few ideas of who it MAY be...

1. Chris Adler
Seems to be the biggest rumor going around at the moment, I can hear it, but still doubt since LOG is so active.

2. Jason Bittner
With Shadows Fall "falling" off the metal spectrum, maybe he will be joining this? Bigger pay check? More well known? Kinda sounds like his style.

3. Andols (ex-Chimera)
I just came up with this one on my last listen of Devil In I. Definitely sounds like his style!

Some immediate thoughts:
-Corey's mask looks a lot like Jeffrey Nothing's
-Mick, Jim, and Chris have basically had the same masks since 1999
-the suspicions people have on the drummer and bassist have been pretty stupid so far

They've launched www.thedevilini.com, which has this thing where you can put yourself in the new masks, or some shit.

Anyway, they're revealing a mask a day. Four revealed so far, Jim, Mick, Chris, and Craig. But there's only space for four more, so someone will be missing. Guessing Sid, Shawn and Corey will be next, so maybe the last one will be one of the new guys.

Meanwhile, Corey Taylor is butthurt that the public was able to figure out who the new bassist is:

During an appearance on "Corey Taylor Talks", Las Vegas' only show for teens hosted by actor and radio personality Corey Taylor (no relation), SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor stated about the band's latest additions: "They're not official bandmembers yet, but they are people who play with the band. Time will tell whether or not they're, like, full members."

He added: "With this band, you earn everything. You're not just given that shot; you have to earn it. And so far, they're doing really well. And we're really enjoying jamming with them. But we're keeping it kind of on the DL, but not really, 'cause somebody already pointed out the tattoos. I was, like, 'Why didn't we make him wear gloves?' I was so upset. I was, like, we thought of all this stuff. We put the hood on him and then the mask, and it was, like, 'It's really hot, guys,' And then there is his tattoos for everybody [to see]. I was, like, 'Well, we missed the mark on that one.'"

Pre. Cisely.

Better songs, better riffs, better production.

Every riff on the new album is just by the numbers copying of old stuff, right down to replicating that same shitty drum sound they had 10-12 years ago. The whole album has been phoned in.

If I wanted Stone Sour, I'd listen to Stone Sour. To each their own.

I gotta agree that they've just become Stone Sour V.2. But given what a trainwreck the band probably is behind the scenes at least it's not a mess. It's nothing to change the world but I don't see in ten years it being remembered as a huge career misstep or anything either.
