context
Machine Head are proud to announce the first round of tour dates in 2014 for North America. The 11 date "Killers & Kings Tour" will serve as an album primer for more dates in the U.S., but more importantly will hit numerous cities that Machine Head hasn't headlined in for over a decade, or in several cases, never headlined, or even played, at all.

Says vocalist / guitarist Robb Flynn, "When we played the Mayhem festival last year, we decided to do some warm up dates beforehand to shake off the rust. We decided to book them into extremely small, intimate venues where we could put on a really intense show without our usual bells and whistles. These venues were in (what is known in the touring industry as) "B and C markets", (basically, not NY, LA, Chicago, Detroit, etc...). We played in Spokane, Portland, and Fresno, and the shows were so fucking amazing, so fucking hot and sweaty, so fucking life affirming, and just so much god damn FUN, as soon as we were done, we vowed that we had to do it again and go on tour in America hitting all the places that we rarely ever get to.

Part of the reason we don't hit these places, is that sometimes their local economy just can't afford to pay as well as a major city. As a band, Machine Head have always made the effort to re-invest in our band rather than pocket the money. We've done a lot of tours where we lost buttloads of cash, all in the name of giving our fans the best show of their lives. That is what is most important to us.

And with that said, we're probably gonna lose some moolah doing this club run. But you know what? The way we look at it, this is also re-investing in our band, by investing in the most important thing we have, YOU! It's giving die-hard Machine Head fans, the Head Cases in the nooks and crannies of America, the places that are often starving for live music, something special and unforgettable.

And local bands you are welcome to jump on in every city.

Because this will be the first time that we've ever played a lot of these cities, we're not even sure if we HAVE fans there, but we believe we can break even!!

So Head Cases, all that I ask of you, is that if you live in or near any of these cities, and are excited about Machine Head coming to your town on the Killers & Kings Tour...

TELL PEOPLE!!

Call people, text people, email people, Share, Tweet, pester, harass, guilt, and shame motherfuckers into going and having a great god damned time at a Machine Head show!! Once a week! The better these shows do, the better the chances of us coming back.

It's a risk for us, but you guys are worth the risk!

We're all in this together! Help us start a tradition of being able to hit the nooks and crannies of America EVERY Machine Head tour!! Make history my friends!

See you on tour!

Now plunder!!"

Man. I wish they would come around to MA or RI. I would love to see them play a headlining show at Lupos.

They'd be lucky to sell out the Middle East these days.

i dont think they would do that badly in boston or any other major market

they didnt draw too well in maine a couple years ago (shocker!) but if i remember correctly sold out toronto a couple nights later

So fucking life affirming!!! Buttloads of cash!!!

i doubt theres much money in a bunch of secondary market $15-20 ticket shows, but touring without support means they probably can take more of the profit, so it is kinda amusing to frame it as "giving back to the fans" and "life affirming"

They are doing the same thing in Europe...

Machine Head are proud to announce the first round of tour dates in 2014 for the UK and Europe. The 15 date "Killers & Kings Tour" will serve as an album primer for more dates in Nov./Dec., but more importantly will hit numerous cities that Machine Head hasn't headlined in for over a decade, or in several cases, never headlined, or even played, at all.

Says vocalist / guitarist Robb Flynn, "In keeping with the intimate club tour-vibe we are doing in the USA this summer, for our first time ever, we decided to blow off 90% of all Euro summer festivals, and hit the nooks and crannies of the UK and Europe as well. We will be doing no major cities in any territories throughout Europe and the UK for this first leg of 2014.

No London, no Berlin, etc, and instead focusing on the die-hard Machine Head fans that who don't often get the chance to see us because the travel is too far or too costly to get the big cities.

I remember when we were out with Metallica doing festivals a few years ago, we played in a small out-of-the-way city in Denmark called Aarhus, we'd never played there let alone, ever even heard of the fucking place. We were all a bit grumbly before the show, and you know what? It ended up being one of the funnest shows we've ever done. Doing shows like this, it creates an energy, it creates a bond, something unbreakable, and it is really fucking fun. It's Machine Head without all the big production, the bells and whistles, stripped down and raw.

What will be really cool is that in the UK, we've never done a club tour, it happened so fast for us there that other than a handful of epically insane, wildly drunken Ten Ton Hammer club shows, we've only played bigger halls, so we are really looking forward to giving our fans something special there. Plus, we've been hearing from our Scottish fans for decades that we need to get to Edinburgh!!! So finally, 21 years into our existence, we're coming, and we're ready to fucking plunder Scotland!!!!

That's what I was thinking. Yea they might not make a lot but if they are just going by themselves and have no money to split with anybody they will still do pretty good I would assume. I will give them credit for doing this but the press release is making them out to be some kind of C market saviors.

I seen them a few years ago at The Palladium. That place was packed.
