MORE DATES COMING SOON!

I'm pretty sure Anvil hates Chicago because of shitty attendance. I saw them once with like 300 people and Anvil didn't go on until almost midnight.

If that were their reason for not playing somewhere, they'd never play anywhere.

Also, seriously, five opening bands in Albany?

If Anvil that can pull 300 people at a show, they're doing pretty well for themselves.
I was curious about seeing them in 2009 when they played MA, but I didn't make it to that one. Not sure it's a cross-state-line worthy show at this point.

Yes! I'll be going to this for sure! Who is the support though?

Also, seriously, five opening bands in Albany?

When I saw them in Chicago they had 5 openers ranging from shitty LOG wanna be, to Bible Of The Devil (motorhead / Priest wannabe) to some wannabe legend 70's band.

They went from playing a 700 cap venue to a 200 cap in the span of 18 months here.

The 15 minutes of fame curve is harsh.

It's time for reality to set back in and Anvil be labelled as terrible again. I have nothing against them, I even feel had for them, but they are a terrible band.

Who is the support though?

No tour support. Just local openers at each show.

Assuming you're going to the Mobile show, for you it's Dread, Broken Paradym, and Excessum.

Eh I haven't heard any of them. I might do Atlanta instead since I have drill the day of Mobile.

A TT The Bear's or Middle East Upstairs show on March 31st would be nice. Ain't giving myself an aneurism in traffic to see them in Providence.

I'd go maybe again, but they really aren't good live.

Not true. Blackguard will open any tour they can get on. Anvil will only play here if they headline.

The movie was okay but the band is still horrible. Being from the Toronto area I was in many a bar they were paying in the mid-1990s.

My problem with Anvil is that there are bands that were just as influential on the same genre (thrash) and had a similar work ethic, but are much better and also made up of humbler and nicer people. Raven, Riot and Saxon all immediately come to mind. Raven especially is much more musically talented, their albums are actually really amazing and those three guys are apparently some of the nicest people in the world.

Saxon is great, especially for cruisin'.

Live too.

It really was a movie that could've been made about any band. I'm sure a band I like goes through the same stuff, and I'm sure bands other people like here go through it too. It's just that those bands are good. Anvil, it's not hard to see why no one shows up to their shows.

I remember seeing Anvil on their first headline tour after the movie came out. They played a 1000-1200 person club that was maybe a quarter full, now they're playing a 400 person venue. The best part about their set was that the Mad Dog guy from the movie was in the audience and he was drinking beer through his nose on stage hahaha. I saw them again with Alice Cooper then once again at Heavy TO and you know it's bad when the hometown crowd has little to no reaction especially with that many people there. They did receive a much warmer welcome than Billy Talent, though

 at three dates they announced just last week already disappearing or being moved to completely different cities.

Minneapolis on May 3 is now at Amsterdam in St. Paul

Detroit on May 14 is now the Grand Rapids show

Lancaster on May 16 is gone

A much small venue mind you, as well. I think it can hold 500 people at most.

Sounds about right. Last time they were here they played a place which holds 600, and just about half filled it (despite claiming online afterwards that it was sold out, obviously).

I thought this as well, and i'm no fan of Anvil, but bands far shitter than them were/are able to find success. So with Anvil it has to be something else as well. I haven't seen the movie so maybe it was explained in there.
