I'm hoping the setlist is really varied like it was near the end of their CTS run. When they played gigs in 2011 before The Hunter came out, they had awesome, varied set lists instead of CTS heavy sets. I'm hoping they do that again, resulting in sets that aren't 80% The Hunter. GIMME OL'E NESSIE.

This. I've seen Mastodon 4 times. Both times I've seen them headline the setlist was centered around one album (CTS in its entirety in '09 and almost every song on the Hunter in 2012). The other two times were 30 minute opening sets so I've yet to see Mastodon play more than just a few pre-CTS songs.

Okay, then I won't give you shit. Because if you saw them at all those two years, you'd have gotten your The Hunter fix and more.

Yeah, this happens a lot. 3 of the 7 times I saw them they played CTS in its entirety, so I got really burnt out on that record. And recently they've given too much love to The Hunter. The fact that of I've seen Mastodon not play Blood and Thunder more times than I have seen them play it says a lot about how good they are with set lists. Best time I saw them was the Mastodon/Kylesa/Intronaut tour in 2009. The inclusion of Hearts Alive made up for only 1 song from Remission.

Since they're touring with two super heavy bands in Gojira and Kvelertak, I'd be surprised if they didn't play more old material than usual. I hope it's not another Hunter heavy set because their set at Mayhem Fest kind of pissed me off due to the almost complete disregard of their older material.

If you were just talking about vocals maybe you'd have a point but I can't argue an opinion.

their clean vocals live have gotten a hell of a lot better since the early crack the skye shows. regardless, the band rules, so they will always be worth seeing live to me. made withstanding mayhem last summer worth it, and the opeth tour was probably one of the best times ive seen them, even with the set being 99% hunter.

I need to catch this tour. I have seen Mastodon 7 times and I have enjoyed every show. The first time I saw them was in 2005 when they opened for Maiden in Denver. I didn't really know who they were at the time and I was definitely blown away. It is hard to believe that I haven't seen them now since 2011. Time flies...

HOB Boston to date has the best mixing and sound system of any venue I've been to, so I wouldn't mind.

But on the flip side, Worcester Palladium is the loudest venue I've been to, so it has that going for it.

I thought it's better for shows to be in Worcestor anyway since Boston banned moshing (not that there'd be a whole lot of that during a lot of Mastodon's set I would imagine).

Xenocide
02-07-2014, 01:15 PM
"banned" lol

I've been to 4 shows at the HOB and the Boston metal crowd is crazy. The venue only stops moshing at non-metal shows.

Of course the Palladium is also a dump in the middle of a deserted war zone!
I thought they were actually going to tear it down last year?

As for the sound - I've been to shows where it was TOO loud (I know....) to the point of being a muddy mess!
