I swear if these teases are fake
I'd say Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, The Faceless, Origin and now, Fallujah are actually on it. Based on their history of teases, Floatsam and Jetsam and Black Breath are not definite yet because they had question marks next to their names.

Most of the bands they hinted at are free during the time SS usually runs, so I think MOST of the hinted bands will probably be there.

So right now if all the bands the official SS page posted lyrics or song/album titles are on it, the lineup looks like this:
Morbid Angel
Dying Fetus
The Faceless
Origin
Fallujah
Thy Art is Murder

I have a sneaking suspicion that After the Burial and Despised Icon are going to be on this as well. Even if it's just the band they've teased on it, it will be an amazing show.

It probably won't happen this year due to them not being so active, but I'd love to see Obscura on this year. When I talked to Hannes a few years ago they were offered but turned it down due to all the Deathcore and Djent on there. If they were to do it, this would be the year that would work best for them.

No it's not, if there isn't a ? next to a band's name and the official SS page posts, that band is on it a vast majority of the time.

Anyways, this lineup is dope all the way around. Stoked to finally get the chance to see Morbid Angel live. Also good to see Decrepit Birth make their way out of the woodwork.

thought the "in the city" portion on august 8th would be this, but NYC being on the 8th rules that out. SS did play the actual festival once though, so i suppose its not impossible.

detuned
04-24-2014, 01:26 PM
might as well continue my futile attempt at diffusing the notion that the teases mean nothing

2014.01.16 - Morbid Angel (?) (yes)
2014.02.13 - Morbid Angel (song title) (yes)
2014.03.06 - Dying Fetus (st) (yes)
2014.03.07 - The Faceless (st) (yes)
2014.03.11 - Flotsam & Jetsam (?) (no)
2014.03.11 - Black Breath (?) (no)
2014.03.20 - Origin (st) (yes)
2014.04.07 - Fallujah (st) (yes)
2014.04.08 - Thy Art Is Murder (st) (yes)
2014.04.24 - lineup announcement

to be fair the gojira tease was a full 5 months before the lineup was announced

the teases were as follows:

2012
2011.10.12 - exhumed (yes)
2011.10.15 - hate eternal (no but were offered according to MPF)
2011.12.31 - cannibal corpse & between the buried and me (yes)
2012.02.01 - band announcements start

2013
2012.10.05 - children of bodom & dillinger escape plan (no, yes)
2012.10.07 - gojira & black dahlia murder (no, no)
2012.12.28 - all shall perish (no)
2013.01.11 - the ocean (yes)
2013.01.27 - aeon (yes)
2013.02.04 - cattle decapitation (yes)
2013.02.06 - revocation (yes)
2013.03.22 - lineup announcement

as you can see, by the beginning of each year they clearly had the bands pretty solidified. its not exactly unreasonable to think any bands teased at this point lean more to the side of likely than unlikely.

SO MUCH great energy from Morbid Angel's live set! Seen them twice in the last couple of years and both times they completely brought it (MDF & Covenant Tour). Tim Yeung really adds so much energy to the band!

MA are still great live. Their Covenant show last year was awesome. The Faceless I'm pretty much completely disinterested in these days ever since everyone from the Planetary Duality days sans Michael Keene left. I guess i'd rather have them than some annoying ass deathcore though.

This is probably the most consistent line-up Summer Slaughter has ever had, but it really just lacks that one "must see" band, for me anyways. They had Aeon last year and Cerebral Bore the year before. This year though, I've seen every band on the line-up minus Fallujah.

I totally agree. And perhaps ironically, I left that show thinking to myself "that was great....so if I call it a day on seeing Morbid Angel live now, I'll remember them forever as kicking ass." Necrophagist
Suffocation
Ensiferum
Darkest Hour
Winds Of Plague
Dying Fetus
Born of Osiris
Origin
Beneath the Massacre
After the Burial
Decrepit Birth
Blackguard

2014 Lineup
Morbid Angel
Dying Fetus
The Faceless
Thy Art Is Murder
Goatwhore
Origin
Decrepit Birth

Do they have a new album coming out any time soon?

Their new one is called Omnipresent and will be out this summer, I believe. They performed a small snippet of one of the tracks at their show here in January. It'll be great! They said on Summer Slaughter, they'll be doing at least one full track from it.

I assume you're referring to the Covenant anniversary tour? Aside from that they've been playing 3-5 songs from it since David rejoined.

I was, but my recollection was that they weren't playing much from Altars before that tour either. Three songs is bare minimum, five is a good start. The full album would be much better. They did it for Covenant - which was good but not as good as Altars - so it needs to happen. I will be there with bells on if and when it does.

Mojoes isn't in Chicago.

Also Summer Slaughter plays a venue over double that size every year and packs it full so why it's getting downgraded to such a smaller venue outside of the city anyway is puzzling to me.

Also look at Thy Art. Opening last year to being pretty high on the bill this year.

not necessarily. probably just realize a lineup like this doesnt have the draw potential that a lineup like last years (or even the year before) had and are just playing it smart by sticking mostly to major markets and limiting the shows.

I listened to about half of the Morbid Angel interview when you put it up on Facebook. Tim seems like a pretty cool guy, and it's clear you know your stuff about his drumming. It's great when you get a talkative guy in interviews, as sometimes people seem a little uninterested.

Thanks man.

Yeah, I've had the ones who aren't interested at all, and I have ones that couldn't be more into doing an interview. You get them all but It's great when they are actually into it.
