by the way, what was I thinking when I called myself larvtard? ugh.

Forget sludge; this is the most soul-crushingly heavy piece of music I've heard since 'hatred for mankind' by Dragged Into Sunlight.

They also released a cool EP this year titled 'master we perish.'

Color me intrigued. Love that album.

It's a different style of metal, but the bands are similar in tone; that is, absolute vitriol and disgust. Imagine a malicious demon pouring acid into your eardrums. (And not the good kind; if anything, this is the sound of a bad, bad trip.)

http://cdn2.pitchfork.com/albums/19826/homepage_large.37fe9477.jpg

Maybe the album cover will you give an idea of what this sounds like. Hoax doesn't give a fuck, and they can't stop boasting about it. This is bitter, yet lethargic hardcore punk with grimy noise (or maybe it's just the thin production) coloring it rancid, a mold that will not cease to grow. Your parents will die.

When I write about music, I try to avoid cliches as much as possible. (Or when writing in general.) One particular cliche that is rampant in the world of music criticism is calling a piece of music "well-crafted"; these are musicians, not blacksmiths! But listen to the opening track of Eldir Nott, "Vigil," and tell me that that Fyrnask haven't mastered the "craft" of repugnant, yet absolutely gorgeous black metal. Look me in the fucking eye. (Or show me something you like better. I can't hear everything.)

Hey, did you know Stephen Brodsky of Cave In and a few other bands is a singer-songwriter, and a rad one at that? Well, now you do. My favorite song of his (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECb_9a0c-VM) isn't on this EP, but it's one of my favorite songs ever, so here you go. Fall in love.

Also, here's a picture of his face just because.

BTW, if these images are too large for any of you (making the page load too slowly), let me know!

I did know that actually. I saw him open for Pelican years ago. I didn't know he had a new EP out though. Nice!

Hey, remember the last scene of Requiem for a Dream? You know, the 'ass to ass'? Well, that was your girlfriend last night with one of the carnies in town for the circus. Except for one thing: she was totally enjoying it, bro. Every goddamn second of it. That slut. Oh, what's that? Now all your friends have abandoned you for being a little pussy? Haha, you are a pussy, man.

Everything is fucked.

But hey, um, don't go starting anything or whatever. You definitely shouldn't go chug a liter of Johnnie Walker Red. That guy walking down the street, looking the wrong way at you? Yeah, he's not looking at you, man; he's minding his own business. If anything, he's purposely trying to look away, 'cause he can smell the whiskey-fueled rage emanating out of your pores. Seriously, bro, go home. I wasn't trying to antagonize you! I'm sorry if you took it that way. Go home. You're not in your right mind now. You're gonna regret this in the morning.

So it was a normal day at the gym, y'know? Lifting with my bros. Reppin' those muscles for the ladies, 'cause they love that shit. When all of a sudden these fuckin' DOGS come barrelling in out of nowhere - like, how the fuck did they even get in? The door was locked, you know... it was just like, all of a sudden, like I said, I turned around and they were there. Jaws drooling red. And they looked pissed off, man! And I was too, especially 'cause they started eating my friends. But, whatever. I shot the bastards, then headed over to my lady's flat.

Stream/download for free on bandcamp (http://getsworse.bandcamp.com/album/negative). I promise you, the music's not nearly as macho and unintelligent as I just made it out to be.

It's funny you say that, because I'm pretty much just getting all the metal out of the way right now. Sometimes I wonder if most people's music tastes change at such a rapid pace. I guess I'm just exposing myself to everything, and finding that I like a lot of what I hear.

Waking up, but not able to open my eyes; I'm stuck in a dream. It's frustrating. I need to get out of bed! But I can't... I can't do it... and that's okay, I think. There must be a reason for this. Or maybe not. But in all honesty (and maybe I'm speaking in dishonesty, but why does it concern you?), it doesn't matter. It feels nice. A tender embrace... floating over the urban decay... the possibilities are limitless. And yet I could just stay in bed, and that would be fine, too. I don't know how to articulate this... do you? Who am I speaking to again? Oh right, myself. That's cool.

"The Weight of Gold" on soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/forestswords/theweightofgold). In all seriousness, I haven't listened to anything so oddly comforting in its trippy melancholy since Endtroducing.

Hey mom? Dad? I wanted to thank you. For bringing me into this world. I know that's a pretty weird thing to thank your parents for, but I feel like all my life I've been harboring this hate in my heart, this resentment towards you guys for giving birth to me, bringing me here against my will. I think that's what bothered me most, y'know? You never asked me what I wanted. If I even wanted to be born. I used to think of you guys as selfish, but I see now that's not the case. Things are never that black and white.

But with that being said - I'm done. Thanks for raising me - you didn't have to do it, but you did, and I appreciate it - but I have no reason to stick around. I've figured out my purpose, y'know? Why I'm here on Earth. It's to establish the ideal society - a society with no silly gender distinctions or greedy capitalist fucks who wouldn't hesitate to kick the downtrodden so they can reach a higher rung on the ladder. Why exactly are these people in charge of us, anyway? What gives one human the right to claim moral and legal authority over another human? Answer me! Oh, that's right... you can't. You see, this is why I'm severing ties. I'll always love you guys, but right now you're standing in the way of my ideological journey, and that's just not going to fly. So I guess this is goodbye, then.

Have you ever felt a sudden, passing sensation of excitement, a shudder of emotion from an epic moment of a song, or a climax of a movie? That is what is called "frisson", a word rooted from the French word meaning "Goosebumps" or "Shiver". It is a physical reaction.

"How long has it been? 9 months? A year? I wouldn't be entirely surprised if it's only been three weeks. Solitary confinement fucks you up, man. Humans aren't meant to live like this. In my time outside the prison walls, I had been a hermit - but nothing like this. I always thought the SHU was this place where it's pitch-black all the time, and I was absolutely terrified - but now that I've been in here a while, I'm comfortable saying that I'd much rather be in that room. If I ever get out of here, I'm never going into the sun again. Not that I'd be able to see it with my eyes now. I'd love to say you'll get used to it, but it's a lie. You never get used to this light. 'Blinding' is a cliche. It tells me that there is a world out there, but they've chosen to not let me be a part of it. There's no worse feeling.

That was an incredible listen.

I'd never heard of Tri-anglerecords before. I think a purchase from there is in order in the near future. That Forest Swords album without a doubt.

Your reviews are awesome.

I agree. These blurbs are descriptions of what's in your mind while you listen to the music. That's far more interesting - to me - than describing, genrefying, dissecting the music, etc.

Tossing. Turning. Kicking the sheets. Screaming - but I can't wake the warm body next to me. Lately, her embrace feels cold. And yet, it's not her. She is still my soul's ideal companion. It's me. I can't go there. I won't go there. What lies beyond is more terrifying than one can imagine... and I cannot go back. Has mankind ever known anything more mysterious? One year ago today a friend and I were vacationing in Costa Rica and decided on that very day we would hike up a volcano.

It had been down pouring rain the past two days. No one had ever accused the two of us of being the most forward-thinking individuals, but what else is life but a series of well-meaning mistakes? I'm sure there's a neat French expression for what I'm trying to say.

But yes, on to the hike. Going up was a tricky task, and knowing the descent would be even more strenuous did nothing to lift our spirits. At the top, we briefly took in the views and tried to enjoy them as much as that was possible, then began our perilous descent.

As I expected, the trail immediately showed us who had the power. (It wasn't us.) We sprinted down to the nearest outpost to see if there was any Antivenom. I was being much too hopeful for the current situation, but I now believe that my optimistic spirit saved him that day.

Needless to say, there was Antivenom, but no needles. No fresh needles, anyway.

Yesterday my friend's immune system finally gave out. Today my friend no longer inhabits the same mass of flesh and bones.

Such is life.

The perfect screenplay?

[Two men meet each others' gazes in a Parisian cafe. They are both visitors. The American knows only a few French expressions; the other, from the Ukraine, knows even fewer. Needless to say, verbal communication is impossible.]

[But the spiritual connection is immediately felt. Understand, neither man is conventionally attractive in the physical sense. And yet these two human beings can't take their eyes off each other. They can't take withdraw their souls from the other. It's already happened. For perhaps the first time in human history, two human beings found their soulmate. But what will they tell their wives? Will they tell them anything? Maybe, they'll discover, there need be no connotations at play. Maybe there is no need to overcome the barrier.]

Nope. I crumpled it into a ball and tossed it in the fireplace. Films have a certain responsibility to the viewers, no? Not to feed them false hope in the form of cliches. I wouldn't take a part in that for all the money the bastards could offer.

But still (promise not to tell) I maintain a glimmer of... no, "hope" is not the right word... awareness. That anything can happen at the will of the Universe. And who is it that deciphers this will? Can anyone?

Above all, I wish I could find that human being. I wish I could know that such a person is out there, maybe wondering the same about me, maybe not. I won't accept anything less... I can't.
