I'm going to make a top 10 list for you all to see. I'll go from 10 to 1. Hope you all check it out...

10. The Black Dahlia Murder - Everblack

http://www.metal-archives.com/images/3/7/2/9/372996.jpg?4222

I'm sure many of you have heard this one. I have a love hate relationship with BDM where I'll be into them for a few years and not care about them for a few years. I didn't care too much for the last two albums, but this one caught my interest right away with the first song. It's a very solid album and the songs translate very well live.

9. Empire of the Sun - Ice on the Dune

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2a/IceOnTheDune.jpg

Empire of the Sun put out a fantastic electronic rock album. It definitely beats their first release due to just about every song being catchy and amazing. I got to see them perform most of it live on Halloween and I can't express how awesome it was. This is also great work out music.

8. Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP 2

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/87/The_Marshall_Mathers_LP_2.png

Yeah that's right, I put Eminem in my top 10. The Marshall Mathers LP was one of my favorite albums back in the day and this was seriously the perfect sequel to it. There are so many good references to MMLP with a lot of closure for many of the issues brought up over the years. There are two songs back to back around 2/3rds of the way through that I didn't like, but the rest is awesome. Headlights is a really emotional song for which Eminem apologizes to his mom for everything he has said and done over the years.

7. Nails - Abandon All Life

http://www.metalpaths.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Nails-Abandon-All-Life.jpg

Nails is one of my favorite bands and I was blown away with this album. I'm pretty sure I got most of you guys in this band by talking about them constantly. A lot of fast tracks with two slow and heavy tracks.

6. Hank III - A Fiendish Threat

http://www.hank3.com/afiendishthreat.jpg

Now this is a very unique album. It's horror punk played using an acoustic guitar, stand up bass and drums. I think the songs sound better live, but its still an awesome recording. I think anyone who likes the Misfits needs to give this one a listen to.

That Black Dahlia Murder album has one of the best album covers of the year.

5. Larry and His Flask - By the Lamplight

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/as/larry-and-his-flask-by-the-lamplight.jpg

Larry and His Flask is a band that started out as a punk band and decided to drop the distortion and play punk infused bluegrass. Every song is a little different on this cd, but that makes it even better. There was a lot of energy from the band when they performed all these songs live.

4. PLF - Devious Persecution and Wholesale Slaughter

http://www.metal-archives.com/images/3/6/6/1/366129.jpeg?3943

This album FUCKING rocks!! Or I should say GRINDS!!! This Texas based grind band blew me away by how brutal this album is. The guitar riffs are catchy. I can't stress enough for you all to listen to this album if you want some fast and angry music in your life.

entire album, only 17 minutes long! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU6NbWN87q0)

3. Bad Religion - True North

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/33/Bad_Religion_-_True_North.jpg

I love old Bad Religion and have come to accept that they were never going to put out a good album again until I heard True North. Its like New Maps of Hell and No Control had a baby and this was the result. There are only two bad songs on this and the rest is just amazing. Short, fast and to the point.

2. The Goddamn Gallows - #5

There is no official artwork for this album. I'm not sure its even out yet or the official title is supposed be "The Maker." The band sent this out in August to people who donated to pay for the drummer's court fees. Anyways, I know I've been talking about this band for a few years now. They are a psychobilly band that is infused with bluegrass and black metal. I doubt anyone has heard anything like this before, unless you checked out the videos I told you to back in the day. The closing song, Howlin Wind, is the perfect example of a bluegrass/black metal song.

1. Jayke Orvis and the Broken Band - Bless This Mess

http://vol14.music-bazaar.com/album-images/vol14/671/671795/2520147-big/Bless-This-Mess-cover.jpg

The number one slot was a difficult choice between this and the Gallows, but I went with this because I have listened to the album a few times a day since I got it at the beginning of the year. This is straight up one of the best bluegrass albums to come out in years in my opinion. Jayke Orvis is an amazing mandolin player and the rest of the band is very talented too. Only downside is that the album has three covers on it. I love the covers but wish he played more originals. Even if you are opposed to bluegrass, I think this is something everyone should at least check out. I brought some friends to see these guys over the summer and they were blown away by how much energy the band has and instantly fell in love.

You showed me the Goddamn Gallows a few months ago and I thought they were really cool. But above all I think they have one of the wickedest band names out there.

Damn, I discovered a new band today and would have probably included this somewhere if I had heard it earlier this year.

Blackbird Raum - False Weavers

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mil40ihSTB1qi57k0o1_1361473941_cover.jpg

Blackbird Raum is a band full of crusties playing Folk Punk. It reminds me of a weird circus version of Defiance, Ohio mixed with other weird elements but I fucking love it! The album is all over the place.

It's getting pretty common. There's a new genre called New Roots where a bunch of crusties and punks are getting together and playing bluegrass with an edge to it. My favorite thing.

Cool list brah. We need to go to a show together again.

You and Scott should go out to the Bum Steer on January 29th! Jayke Orvis is playing there again and would love it if you both went, especially since its right next to you guys and free.
