I know it's pretty hard to narrow it down to just one, especially for some people that go to like 40 shows a year. But if you had to pick one, which would you say was the best?

Mine was Iron Maiden @ Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy Paris, France June 5th 2013.

Same setlist as I had seen the year prior but the energy and excitement in the building was palpable. I was dead tired when I got to the venue (the Louvre was like a black hole, I'm less tired after a workout or a long day at work:confused:) but I probably went wilder for this gig than just about any other I have before. The band fed off the fans and cranked out a fantastic performance. Plus the overall vibe of being in such a cool-looking arena, the history that the place has with Iron Maiden, and just knowing you're there in one of the most interesting and prominent cities on the globe just adds to the intensity. For good measure, add in a cool event shirt and getting in early and getting right at the front and this is a top contender for best gig I've ever seen, regardless of year.

Tricky... tricky... Black Sabbath in Manchester last week is standing out at the moment.

Absu at The Highline in Seattle. It was beyond amazing. My third time seeing them, and definitely the best. I just wish my band had played it... BLEGH!

Opeth & Katatonia.

I only saw Iron Maiden once in 2013 so... yeah

making the trip to Kansas city was pretty fucking cool and the sight seeing was great too. But what really matters is that Maiden did what they always do for me: A little moment of pure happiness

Up The Irons !

Cheers !

Slayer MSG show was pretty awesome. Opeth/Katatonia was great but it seems like ages ago. Helloween was awesome too! Soilwork ditto. Well that didn't really keep true to your thread, but those were the ones that came to mind.

Suffocation in April. Three words: Thrones, of, Blood.

Lamb of God and Testament were probably the most fun I've had at a show all year. Close runner up would be Gojira and Devin Townsend.

Candlebox at the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston. Entire debut album played for it's 20th anniversary. Couldn't have been more than 250 there. It was awesome.

I was going to say Bolt Thrower, but this coming Saturday on December 28th might just end up being the single best show of 2013 for me. Will see how it goes...

:hmm:I saw Neurosis on 12/30/12 and it ended up being the best show I saw in 2012.

Ironically, I'm seeing Clutch on 12/30/13, but I doubt it'll end up outshining the myriad wonders I witnessed at MDF this year (Bolt Thrower was among them).

By the way, we're talking complete shows as opposed to individual bands, right?

I'm tied between Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden/Megadeth. The runner up would definitely be Black Flag though.

Unless Neurosis tops it (and it very well could), I'm gonna go ahead and say Brocas Helm was my top show of 2013. Bolt Thrower, Black Sabbath, Orchid, and Metal Church follow in no particular order.

I really am having a tough time deciding. It's a toss-up between Vektor at Great Scott, Coheed and Cambria at House of Blues/Hampton Beach, and Esoteric or Deafheaven at T.T The Bears. I got to see a lot of amazing shows this year, hopefully next year will be even better!

Also, I'm seeing GWAR tomorrow for the first time, so that might make the list.

For me it's gotta be The Dillinger Escape Plan at the tiny ass High Noon Saloon in Madison. I had seen videos and read about how crazy they were live, but nothing had me prepared for all of the sudden stage dives from both the crowd and band, most of the audience ending up on stage during Sunshine the Werewolf, and just the general insanity of their performance. The only single band that I've been more impressed with live is Iron Maiden, who I unfortunately didn't get a chance to see this year.

Either Lamb of God/Killswitch/Testament, Gojira, or Deftones.

You asked for 1 so I gave you 3.

I'm bummed. I've finally become that guy who gets married/in a relationship and is hardly able to go to concerts anymore. I went to 3. My lowest since I started regularly going to shows back in 2001.

Avantasia. Was a long, long time coming and something I had deemed impossible without leaving the continent. One of the most fun, best-sounding shows I've been to, great performance, great sound, great crowd, and all around a great road trip. One of my all-time favorites.

Hank III played for over 4 hours straight without taking any breaks. I'm picking that.

Neurosis.

Honorable mentions: Bolt Thrower, Autopsy, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Cypress Hill, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, and The Geto Boys.

Havok; I'm cheating a little since it was the only show I was able to get to :eyes:, they would have been my top pick even if I had gone to others; they killed it

I've gotta bypass the idea of best overall show because I can't say I saw anything that was fantastic from top to bottom, but Gojira as a headliner and opening act put on the best show. High on Fire/Kvelertak is up there, could have been way cooler if there was a better crowd.

Bolt Thrower was definitely number two for me. That Geto Boys show is up there. It was SOOOOOO sick!! I loved it when Scarface was beat boxing.
