If a mod wants to fix the two slight typos in the title that would be cool

Is deafheaven really bigger than Intronaut?

They've definitely got way more buzz. I thinks it's weird that Deafheaven is on a prog line up but I ain't complaining.

deafheaven probably technically isnt much bigger (if at all) but they certainly have a wider appeal at the moment and probably will bring in people that wouldnt normally go to a show like this. they are seemingly the current token vaguely "metal" band for the indie crowd and critics to gush over this year.

I'd love to make it to this. Thursday might not cut it though.

A million times yes. Deafheaven not only has huge hype in the metal community, but also in the non-metal community. They're fucking big right now.

I've never heard one song by them. Hell, I've barely seen them mentioned.

I guess I'm out of touch.

I might hit up the MKE show if I have the funds. BTBAM impressed me at Summer Slaughter last year and the Deafhaven album is pretty good.

So going to LI. Hopefully BTBAM plays more old shit this time. I'd be happy with one song each off Alaska and Silent Circus, and the rest all newer stuff.

Between the Buried and Me just sold out The Metro (~1000 capacity) and now they're playing some place in the suburbs that I've never heard of with better support.

Also, I've known about this from talking to Danny at the CoL / IntrOnaut show a few weeks back. You'd all know that if I'd have written a review. :wallbang:

Their latest album was actually on both Amazon and Spin's top albums of the year, alongside Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Arcade Fire, Kanye, Drake, Queens of the Stone Age.. yeah, they're pretty hot right now. They're not really anything original (or even that good imo), but they seem to have hit the sweet spot of image, sound, and place for alot of crossover appeal.

On topic, somewhat interested in seeing Intronaut, but probably not enough to go to this.

Don't worry they tour all the time.

yeah my "token vaguely metal" claim is turning out to be pretty accurate

amazon - #16 overall (only metal), plus "best hard rock/metal" artist & album
av club - #3 (only metal)
decibel - #11 (n/a duh)
revolver - #2 (n/a duh)
spin - #22 (kvelertak only other)

im sure it will place high on pitchfork too

I understand what you're saying but theyre not "vaguely" metal. Sure they're a metal band that popular indie music publications love, but I'd argue Sunbather has more metallic qualities than BTBAM's latest and maybe even Intronaut's latest.

detuned
12-06-2013, 10:21 AM
oh for sure, im not at all claiming they arent metal, i meant "vaguely metal" more in the general sense of that typical token spot, indie-friendly heavy bands that people who dont generally listen to heavy stuff gush over.

Shoegaze with Black Metal and Post-Rock all in one. Get over it.

Listening to deafheaven now.

Sounds like upbeat Deftones instrumentals with black metal vox.

For sure, I get you. This year it's Deafheaven, last year it was Baroness and 2011 was Liturgy.

HAHA. You get the worst BTBAM album in it's entirety. Nothing will matter after Deafheaven plays. You'll be a full blown hipster in a weeping lump in the corner.

I did too. That's kinda why I thought Parallax was soooo boring. They need to do something different. They still sound really great live even though they aren't much to watch, IMO.

I haven't listened to Parallax II yet so I don't know how good or bad it is, but the last time I saw them they played all of Parallax I and it kinda sucked. e_e

Luckily when they played Sun of Nothing I came about 500 times, I'm just worried that on my date they'll do all of Parallax II and then like 1 or 2 other songs :(

On their big tour where they just played Parallax II they literally just played Parallax II and White Walls.

I meant it as BTBAM doesn't even acknowledge the first two.

They did play Mordecai on their fall 2012 tour along with a medley of some of their old songs if I recall (which kinda blew as I'd rather have just heard one old song in full).

I think it's their third best behind Great Misdirect and Colors. "Telos", "Lay Your Ghosts to Rest", "Silent Flight Parliament" and "Bloom" are amongst the best songs they've ever crafted. The backlash on here is hilarious because Parallax II was so well-received on the whole.
