Billy posted some photos of Leviathan tracking sessions recently on Facebook, so I'm guessing that's already underway. Where did you see that statement from Cobbett? I haven't heard anything personally about new Hammers or VHOL, but he may just be opting to work at a different studio than Hammers' usual place, where I'm at.

Also y'all can add Slough Feg - Digital Resistance to awesome shit that comes out next year.

Lacuna Coil is writing new songs. Not sure when the new album is suppose to be out.

I want to look forward to A Silver Mt. Zion, and I will always anticipate the releases of Efrim and company just because of who they are, what they stand for and what they're capable of writing, but I just haven't dug the last few ASMZ albums. Especially when comparing them to their first few.

It's certainly an issue of style, not capability.

Been listening to a couple of 2014 releases that have been sent my way recently. The clear cut highlight so far is Alcest's Shelter, losing the metal aspect did nothing to damper Neige's songwriting. The album is just a big time grower, that takes time for the melodies and subtle dynamics to worm their way into your head. If the single makes you feel uneasy, just wait til you hear the rest. I feel it happens to be one of the weaker songs, and is a little misleading as a representation of the album as a whole.

I've already warmed up to the single, but this is still comforting and intriguing. I'm not sure I could swallow a whole album styled like the single. I'd prefer it to be varied.

I think the single is a good single for the purpose of announcing that this album is full of light, but the shadow still creeps into most of the other songs, albeit subtly.

Well put, and I hope you're right.

I think I'm starting to move past my discontent of this new version of Alcest. I've been listening to that single over and over, and it's definitely growing on me. If his songwriting can just mirror Écailles de lune and not Les voyages de l'âme, I won't complain one bit more about Alcest being all shoegaze.

I'd say it's more reminiscent of Souvenirs mixed with the softer moments of Les Voyages, but you really can't compare it to their previous full lengths.

I'd say it's more reminiscent of Souvenirs mixed with the softer moments of Les Voyages, but you really can't compare it to their previous full lengths.

I meant to draw from the songs on Écailles that were longer, had natural flow and didn't sound forced. Les Voyages was a forced product. The shoegaze will be fine if Neige just lets the music come naturally to him, and doesn't start trying to manipulate it too much to force it into something.

I know Pallbearer has been mentioned, but they just posted this on Facebook.

With this incredible list of 2014 announcements, I'm beginning to think next year will be the best EVER. Seriously, there could easily be 5-10 albums released next year as good as, or better than, the best album released this year.

Is that for real? Quite frankly, I've grown pretty indifferent towards them due to their ridiculous periods of inactivity and declining results when we actually get to hear them. Still, I'd be real interested to hear anything new from Tool, given that there are very few bands more important to me for getting into metal.

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNeQMFiz2UY) is a new track from the Nausea album Condemned to the System. It comes out on Tuesday! I am told they went back to sound like World Downfall!!!

Edit: FUCK! I just looked at the track listing for the new Nausea album and 8 of the 11 tracks are re recorded versions of Nausea songs and one Terrorizer song. It's a big let down that there is only three new songs after the big hype for this album...

Prostitute Disfigurement. Always LOLed at the name. New song:

I think I found my album of the year. Holy MOSES, it's like a continuation of his first solo record which if anyone knows is everything anyone could ever want out of a metal/AOR record. There's a couple of throwaway tracks to be sure, but the majority of this record is giving me orgasms.

I didn't have high hopes for this album based on the theme alone, but it turned out I was 100% wrong, and I LOVE when that happens.

Standout tracks
Blind
Must Be Dreaming
The Last Days Of Rain
This Could Go On Forever
I Sing Myself Away - one of those 'soft going home' type of songs that really surprised me

Nah, all those I meant are coming out in 2014. 7 H. Target were supposed to release more material last year but obviously didn't, it's called "0.00 Apocalypse" and it's apparently done and everything. The new Gridlink is called "Longhena," it'll be out sometime later this year and it's apparently their last. As for the grind, I heard all of those albums except Blockheads, Iron Lung was the one to beat (and I don't think anyone did, grindwise). Do you know Psychic Limb? Pretty great fastcore/grind, available pay-what-you-want (https://clairvoyantrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/jamaica), another one of my favourites from 2013.

The vocals on the new Skull Fist have grown on me so much. I don't know that I like it better than his old vocal style, but I really enjoy the album now.

Also, "Bad For Good" is pure glam metal/AOR and it's amazing!

Must check that song out then!

I do recall hearing that the guitars on the new Agalloch album are especially great and the songs are far more focused than the ones on Marrow of the Spirit. I honestly can't remember who told me that though, may have just been Aesop or Billy posting on Facebook or might have been a conversation I had with Justin Weis. Idk, either way I think this one will be a much, much better album than Marrow was, both sonically and musically. The specific combination of Billy Anderson and Justin Weis is one of the best a black metal band can get these days. As I've gotten to see in person, the two complement each other extremely well when it comes to going from Billy's mix to Justin's master.

1. Skull Fist - Chasing the Dream
2. Ea - A etilla
3. Indian - From All Purity
4. Backtrack - Lost in Life
5. Against Me! - Transgender Dysphoria Blues
6. Mogwai - Rave Tapes
7. Woods of Desolation - As the Stars
8. Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything
9. Sleepy Sun - Maui Tears
10. Murmur - Murmur

Only thing I really didn't like was Murmur. Skull Fist, Ea and Indian are all really good. Everything else ranges from meh to pretty good.

Listen to it dude, it really freakin sounds like it was recorded in 1986."Bad For Good" is pure glam metal, "Call Of The Wild" is NWOBHM to the core, and "Don't Stop The Fight" has kind of a thrash vibe IMO.It really takes all the metal genres of the 80's and combines them to make an excellent record.I probably already have my number one (I'll to wait and see what melodic rock masters H.e.a.t come out with to be sure though).

Behemoth is good, but it peaks at the beginning and the end. The middle seven songs are good though. I love the vocal layering on Oh Father, Oh Satan, Oh Sun!

I don't know why but I got a digipack version with a DVD. The packaging is nice but kinda unnecessary and the lyrics in the booklet are in a cool, but unreadable, font. And there's a cardboard sheet stuck to the cover that I can see coming off very easily. Can't say I'm a fan of the packaging.
