Anyone dig on the wonderful world of mangas/anime? I been a anime junkie for a good decade now. I started getting into the beautiful visceral world of mangas and anime sometime around my freshmen year of high school, about 2004-2005 era I believe. Hopefully there are some anime heads out there on metalsetlist. For those that wanna get into some classic gems, I would definitely recommend The SERIES "Neon Genesis: Evangelion". It is hands down, the greatest series ever created! So incredible, yet very fucked up, and an extremely depressing series once you finish it up with the movie that came out a year later titled "NEON GENISIS: END OF EVANGELION." Neon Genesis Evangelion: END of Evangelion is not only the greatest anime film ever created. It is an incredible epic piece of art that must seen and witnessed by everyone on goods green earth. The 25 episode series as well as its film is very apocalyptic, eerie, philosophical and just down right FUCKED UP. I remember I lost a good two weeks of sleep from watching that series/movie. Such a beautiful series/film that must seen and witnessed by everyone, and I MEAN EVERYONE.
Theres a starter. Also The show/Manga Berserk is pretty amazing. Hopefully some of y'all can recommend the sep-man some good ol' fashion mangas, anime.

Dropped out of anime for years but I've recently watched Attack on Titan and it was one of the best ones I've seen. The manga is still ongoing and with the following its got, a 3rd season of the anime will likely come out soon.
I still read Naruto but they're taking years to finish the war, it was awesome at first but at this point its hard to care with how long they dragged it out.
My favorite animes were DBZ, Death Note, Baccano!, Gungrave, Hellsing Ultimate, FMA Brotherhood, Black Lagoon, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Romeo X Juliet, Hitman Reborn, Berserk etc.

I've watched like a literal shit-ton of the stuff. A lot of it is good and... well, i'd say it's got a hit/miss ratio that's the same as 'regular' TV.
My all time favorite is probably Kaiba.
'Dat artstyle, soundtrack, scifi/traveling story and just general goodness.
I am generally not a big fan of cheesy/silly action animus.
edit: i'm really not following recent stuff anymore though, too busy with life to be the weeaboo i once was.

I thought the same thing when one of the members here developed an infatuation with k-pop.

Death Note, Ergo Proxy, Cowboy Bebop, Elfen Lied and Attack on Titan are awesome.
Currently re-watching Gundam Wing and about to start Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I liked Dragonball Z, even though the fight with Vegita (Fegita?) dragged on way too long. And I always liked Ninja Scroll.
I like most of what I've seen but never gotten too deep into it.

Ghost In The Shell is one of my favorite movies of all time. I also dig other pretty well-known animes like Akira, Ninja Scroll, Perfect Blue, Paprika and Jin-Roh. And of course Hayao Miyazaki's films (My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, etc). The only series I ever got into were Cowboy Bebop, Golgo 13 and some of the GITS series.

Here is another anime that I recommend you all check out. Here is a trailer to get a good idea of the griminess of this film. The song being played in the background is fucking heavy.

about to start Neon Genesis Evangelion.
You are in for a treat! Neon Genesis Evangelion is hands down the greatest series/film ever made! Once you finish up the 25 episode series, you must watch the movie that concludes how this incredible show ends. When you start off with the series it may come off as bit slow, but trust me, by the time you get to episode 15 is when shit starts getting really really fucked up. Really fucked up! From there on you are in for a ride and it just won't let you go until it's completely finish.

Evangelion's overrated IMO. I used to think it was amazing, but upon rewatching I realized the series itself is very flawed, and its mostly that End of Evangelion is one of the most awesome anime movies ever, and you watch that last which leaves you with a pretty awesome impression of the franchise. Not saying the main series isn't great but other TV series with smarter pacing (and budget use) have outclassed it if you ask me.
That said, the high quality and level of impact on the medium make NGE "required reading" of sorts if you're interested in anime. :2cents:
