Enter Sandman - Metallica

You really need to listen to more Metallica. It's not a bad riff but it doesn't have shit on most of the riffs from their first four albums. It's not even the best riff on the black album.

How do you of all people not have Passion & The Opera on your list?

So many riffs, so many riffs.

To start I'll say anything off Slaughter or the Soul. Specifically Blinded by Fear and the title track. But the whole album is great riff after great riff.

So many riffs, so many riffs.

This. It's impossible (and pointless) to go through the hundreds of riffs that would qualify.

With that said, there is only one truly correct answer: Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath. That opening riff is pure evil.

Entombed - Wolverine Blues

ACDC - Powerage. The entire album is just one stack of memorable rock riffs after another. "Downpayment blues", "Gone Shooting", "Whats Next To The Moon" are good examples.

Definitely one of those albums that come to mind when I think of "favorite heavy rock riffs" - :hmm:

This is why it's so hard to come up with a list for this thread topic. Just the mention of these two bands gets me thinking of all the great riffs they recorded. Between Sabbath and AC/DC, I could come up with a hundred riffs alone I think are great. Forget about even getting to any other bands right away.

Too many good riffs out there to list my favorites.

Cannibal Corpse - Pit of Zombies.

Too many, I was just listening to Gore Obsessed this morning on the way to college so it's on the brain.

Dude, I've listen to almost everything Metallica has done, I'm a huge fan, so it's not like I'm not familiar with anything off their first four albums.I can only write so many riffs down, trust me Battery, Blackened, Creeping Death, and whole crap load more from their first four albums are incredible riffs, it's just that Enter Sandman and Master Of Puppets were the first two that popped into my head.

Crap, totally forgot about Slaughter Of The Soul! Blinded By Fear is definitely one of the best metal riffs out there.

I think I have it down to one riff: the intro (first one or two minutes) to the Art of Dying by Gojira. Not my favorite band but a wicked riff.

Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal. Every riff in that song is gold.

As far as something classic, Sabbath's Children of the Grave has always been one of my favorites.

Into The Void goes without saying.

The daddy of all riffs is Electric Head Part 1 (The Agony) by White Zombie though.

Damn that's a one-dimension list...

I'll give you 'Unholy', but KISS' best riff is 'Within', followed by pretty much anything from 'Creatures of The Night'.

Queen's best riff is 'I Want It All'.

Monotheist is a fucking monster of a riffs album.

The album responsible for the highest number likely to make my favourites list is probably La Sexorcisto though.

Amen to that! Damn, I'm glad to hear from another person who appreciates what EHG has to offer musically. I was trying to narrow it down to one song but there are definitely many that could qualify as top riff contenders. With that said, this thread could go on indefinitely...... I keep coming up with more favorite riffs as every minute passes.
