What a huge difference. Not setlist wise, but from the atmosphere, and turn out. Tonights 2nd show felt much much different compared to last nights event which kicked off Slayers two night gig at the Hollywood Palladium. I enjoyed last nights show a little more than tonights 2nd show. It felt more "intimate" if you wanna call it that. This was Slayers 2nd night playing at the Hollywood Palladium during a two night gig that kicked off last night which I had also attended with fellow metal seltist member Christopher. Last nights show had probably less than 600 people and the venue felt somewhat "empty" when you compare it to tonights sold out event. Tonights show was sold out to its maximum capacity of 3,700. Serious shit!! 3,700 compared to a turn out of less than 500 is a huge difference! One thing that stood out to me while I was at tonights show was how "empty" it felt on Sundays show. They could have easily moved the first show to a smaller venue like the House of Blues or something, especially with a turn out that small for a such big band like Slayer. Truth be told; the front center floor was the only place that was packed for Sunday nights gig. There was just a little pit going on in the center while the left side and right side of the venue was just a big empty hall. Tonights show was much much different! Tonights show was packed to the bone, you couldn't breath anywhere, the entire floor was just one giant circle pit of hell. Chaos everywhere! It was fucking crazy. The highlight of tonights show was hearing Postmortem, At Dawn They Sleep, and Payback. My mind fucking exploded once the opening notes for Payback started. I just lost it!!! Belching out the lyrics word for word like a mad man! After all these years they still put on a hell of a show! It's a bummer that two original members are gone but this new line up of Slayer definitely delivered the goods, and I would be down as hell to see them again when ever they come through again in my part of town. Even though the show was packed to the very bone it still didn't' stop me from getting to the very front center next to the man himself, Tom Araya. By the time the "Hanneman" banter was put down and the intro to South of Heaven started, I was right up front next to Toms Fat bearded Santa Clause Satan looking fat ass! It was fucking amazing! I LOVE YOU TOM. Sure, I could barely breathe and feel my body about to pass out from lack of oxygen, but like Tom said at last nights event; "if you can't stand the heat, get outta the fucking kitchen". I had a fucking blast, but I still prefer last nights show over tonights. Simply for the atmosphere, turn out, the somewhat 'intimate" feeling due to the poor turn out, and the SUPER OLD SCHOOL SETLIST. In the end Slayer kicked my ass two nights in a row, and they proved to me once again why they are my favorite band in the world. I am tired as shit and must revitalize my energy for Sepultura on friday. GUH NIGHT FOLKS.

Tonight officially marks my 8th time seeing Slayer, and my 2nd time seeing POINT FIVE-LAYER. Good times, indeed.

Neato that they did Strike of the Beast again. I wonder if it'll actually stay in the set this time around or if it'll just be another one-off.

I'd love to hear them do the cover but hate that they do it. I'm so glad I sold my ticket for tonight.

Cool review, man. I just have a difference in opinion on their newer stuff. I have no problem with them playing a couple songs from WPB.

Have a crew taking a road trip to the Lowell show next month. Can't wait.

That is one hell of a great run of kickass songs back to back!!! :rocker:

Interesting to see they have been mixing the sets up through the first few shows. I wonder if this will continue as they rarely ever do. Cant wait for Montreal in a few weeks!!! Half of Slayer is still better than No Slayer!!!

Nice, man! I hope you have a great time. After seeing Slayer two nights in a row I can assure you that they will deliver the goods.

Strike of the Beast > 70% of all Slayer songs to be honest.

I didn't get your text until after the show was over. I thought you were gonna dip out before Slayer? I heard something happened with your keys being locked in your brothers car or something. :hmm:

I was referring to the Exodus cover. It would be cool to see but at the same time it sucks that it's replacing a potentially awesome song so I hate that. I originally had a ticket for last nights show but sold it to go to the first night and very happy I did so cause the setlist was way better.

How did they sell out the 2nd night and not the 1st? I would think it would have been the complete opposite.

Because this show was announced/went on sale weeks/months before the Sunday show.

Not only would Sunday have been more convenient for me, but it also had the much better setlist. This is a case where I was essentially punished for buying my ticket so early.

I can appreciate the fact that they're at least mixing things up from show-to-show, more bands need to do that. But we had the worst set so far IMO last night. Still a fun show though.

I loved hearing Disciple, Payback, and Dittohead back to back to back. :hecho: :hecho: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes::eyes:

Oh yeah, I was gonna ask; You probably regret wearing that jack at the show now? I made the big mistake of doing that on sundays). You were probably soaking wet by the time the show was over. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I loved hearing Disciple and Payback too, and I don't think I saw Dittohead before so that was cool.

But compared to Sunday's setlist this one just doesn't compare. I'd be drooling if I had gone to that show. I was pretty bummed when I heard the intro to World Painted Blood and not Hell Awaits last night. That subsided quicly though. I did forget that they played Die By The Sword and they did do that Exodus cover, so this set might've been better than the Vegas one. But we also lost ALtar of Sacrifice and Jesus Saves too, which was lame, so I don't know.

Plus I was kinda hoping for Threshold like they played in Vegas since I haven't seen that song but I have seen Payback before.

And I chucked the jacket after like 4 songs. That jacket was like 6 years old and it was starting to fall apart anyways so no biggie. I just forgot to take it off. And I was soaking wet at the end even without the jacket.

Attended last nights show and was pretty disappointed with the setlist. Cool that they played so many old jams from the days before Reign in Blood, and crushed that they wasted my time with songs after Seasons.

It was an odd mix, and it makes me wonder who they were targeting. I feel like none of the old school fans give a shit about "Disciple" and "World Painted Blood", and none of the people who like those songs know the old shit anyway.

The most disappointing part was that they played only 3 songs off Reign in Blood, and any clown could guess which three. Plus they broke apart the "Postmortem" into "Raining Blood" combo, which should be illegal.

To me, it seems like they tried to blend a setlist for the old school fans and for less informed fans, and therefore played a mediocre set.

To be fair, the only reason I'm so bitter is because Slayer fuckin' rocks. But they earned that high standard, and their job is to live up to it.

Last night, they did not.

This X 1000000, they did this both times I saw them and it annoys the hell out of me. The Postmortem/Raining Blood seque worked awesomely on Reign in Blood and I have no idea why they separate it live. They have been doing it forever since they are even separated on the 1990 live album.
