It is. It was a special 30th anniversary show, filmed for DVD.

Not sure you needed to quote every setlist just to highlight one of them, though.

I watched some of them before Thunder.

The singer was too fucking bad to listen to for more than a couple of songs.

Ikr, I always wondered why they don't tour here.I mean lots of bands from Sweden tour here, even if they don't have any hits to speak of, even if they could only do like clubs that only fit 300 people they should still come over here because they have to realize that they are lots of US fans of Europe.

Yes, but there are probably lots of fans very spread out. That's usually the problem with touring the US. Fans always think there's lots of support for a given band, but all of those fans are usually scattered all over the country and aren't concentrated enough in any particular cities to make the costs of touring financially viable.

So Paul really struggled again with his vocals? Doesn't surprise me I guess, was hoping the time off helped.

Not just struggled, couldn't sing at all. I don't think it was his fault. If I had to guess, I'd say he had a cold or flu or something. He looked like he was struggling physically sometimes, and some songs he practically had to speak rather than sing.

He improved a little by the end, and sounded OK on Love Gun, but overall he clearly wasn't right.

Shame really, because last time I saw them on the Sonic Boom tour he was fantastic.

Gene was great though, and there are quite a few Gene-led songs in the current setlist, so it wasn't a complete loss.

Only someone who hasn't seen him would say that. Or someone with low self-confidence who has, I suppose. Best performer of SRF 2011, and one of the best this year too.

True, I have never seen him live. My sister had all those albums in the early 80's rick springfield, olivia newton john, bee gees, grew me to despise this entire genre, and then albums like kill em all were released (as a 13yo) and i was saved. I have heard those albums over and over. still can't stand hearing any of that stuff.

on another note, (being that you profile says you are located across the ocean) have you ever seen Hanoi Rocks live? with Razzle?

Yep, his records suck. Live, he's one of the best out there.

Sweet Jesus no. I have seen Michael Monroe solo though; he was awful and looked like a caricature.

Yessir I am. I believe Maiden33 is going from Pennsylvania, and I read on the Avantasia forums that some guy is going from Seattle. I know another guy coming from Toronto as well. This thing is going to draw pretty well I'd imagine.

Yessir I am. I believe Maiden33 is going from Pennsylvania, and I read on the Avantasia forums that some guy is going from Seattle. I know another guy coming from Toronto as well. This thing is going to draw pretty well I'd imagine.

Honestly, I really don't know what will be the draw. I mean, you gotta count on the "festival" attraction with the cheap 11-day ticket ($78), where loads of people who usually don't attend gigs do. I'd say for a "normal" show, Avantasia would draw no more than 300-400 in Quebec City, about the same as a band like Hammerfall do. But Hammerfall played the festival a few years ago, on the very same stage where Avantasia will play, and it was close to be sold-out (5,000 crowd). So, maybe Avantasia can be close to sell-out the place as well. Let's hope so. Voivod should draw some people in as well, even though it's a weird fit.

That's a great crowd for HammerFall. I agree that most power metal bands will draw no more than 500 (maybe Helloween, and definitely Blind Guardian could do better), but this is a different situation. This is quite possibly the only chance a Canadian/American will ever get to see Avantasia, and I think a lot of people will be traveling to see it.

Either way, I plan to be in line before doors open just to make sure I get in and get plenty of merch :D

Just remembered Crazy Lixx was on the bill for this year, any particular reason why you didn't see them or did they clash with another band you wanted to see?

I seem to have missed this question, sorry.

They were on at the same time as Saxon.
