I'm willing to skip Friday 100% if I get to see MDB...I simply must.

I'm lucky to even have a job, I get paid peanuts. 2013 was the toughest year of my life bar none, I lost my awesomely good job in February and the bottom fell out now, I can barely afford rent (I'm getting family help) and my life has changed immensely. Even getting down to Baltimore is uncertain, I don't know where I'll be in May. Trying to relocate out of NY with a better job...so status is really really unsure right now. I just wanted to lock in my chance first, when May rolls around, I'll try to find a way to get down there.

Due to a line-up issue (specifically, no chance for the band to find a replacement drummer in time for MDF), WITCHRIST will not be performing at MDF XII.

THE RUINS OF BEVERAST (Germany) will be filling the vacant space created by the cancellation, which means they will be playing on Friday at the Edison Lot.

Also, we can now announce that PSEUDOGOD (Russia) have been confirmed to appear at MDF XII. When we mentioned that we were waiting to find out if a certain band could make it over to the US, this is who we were referring to. They will be playing on Sunday at the Edison Lot.

We will not be announcing anymore bands for any of the venues.

The following bands will be playing the MDF XII pre-fest party on Wednesday, May 21st at the Ottobar in Baltimore:

IMMOLATION
MISERY INDEX
BLACK BREATH
NOISEM

Tickets for this show will be available directly through the Ottobar website. A sale date and price will be announced soon. Once again, this show is completely separate from any of the other festival ticket options that were/are on sale.

Also, before bands begin at the pre-fest on May 21st, we will be screening Welcome to Deathfest, the documentary profiling MDF that was recently completed. Stay tuned for a precise door time and movie time. The film is approximately 45 minutes long.

Sounds cool!

I think a while back they said something about you might be upset if your two favorite bands on the fest were, say, At The Gates and Putrisect. Makes me think that the first band at the Ram's Head will start really shortly after the headliner at Edison Lot finishes up each day.

As far as I can tell, that's okay for me.

Here are my personal revisions:
Friday:
-Switch Castevet and The Ruins Of Beverast for Necros Christos and Taake
-Bump Antisect (probably headlining), Capitalist Casualties, and Cripple Bastards to the top

Saturday:
-Switch Orator and Goat Torment for Nocturnus AD and Sarke
-Bump Excruciating Terror (most likely headlining) to the top, Noothgrush and Extinction Of Mankind move up as well

Sunday:
-Switch Inquisition and Hemdale for Windhand and Graves At Sea
-Drop Enabler down towards the bottom

NEWS AND NOTES:

BANDS:
Due to "personal reasons", Hemdale will not be able to perform at MDF XII this year. MISERY INDEX will now be playing on Sunday, May 25th at the Edison Lot.

TICKETS:
There still seems to be some confusion about what is sold out and what is not. MDF XII IS NOT COMPLETELY SOLD OUT. 3 Day passes (Fri-Sun) and individual day tickets for the Edison Lot (where the majority of the bands are playing, including the headliners) ARE AVAILABLE on our website at the link below.
Tickets for Friday and Sunday at Soundstage are also still available, but not many.

MDF MERCH:
T-shirts, pullover hoodies, and girl tanks for this year's event are now on sale. You can visit our website and click on merch to order. These items are for fest pick up only at the Edison Lot. Please refer to the photo album of shirt previews on our Facebook page for a closer look at the designs.

VENDORS:
Will be located at the Edison Lot. Here is who is confirmed to have a space at this year's festival:
Bazillion Points, Black Mess / Acid Queen Jewelry, Century Media Records, ChopoBrujos, Crucial Blast Records, Deathgasm Records, Decibel Magazine, Deepsend Records, The End Records, Five Point Records, Forever Plagued Records, Handshake Inc, Haunted Hotel Records, Hells Headbangers, Hype Ignition, IndieMerch, JSR Direct, Lace Pickups, Largactyl Records, Lock and Shock, Old Cemetery Records, Relapse Records, Salvation Distro, Season of Mist, Sevared Records, Sunflower Glass Company, Unholy Anarchy Records, Useless Christ Records, Utterly Somber, Vienna Music Exchange, Warlord Clothing

PARKING:
Due to a change in agreement with the Edison space, we will not be selling parking passes before the event. That said, the parking space adjacent to the lot where bands will be performing is large enough to accommodate whoever wants to park there. It will only be possible to pay ($10/day) to park here when you arrive each day. Unlike last year, please note that overnight parking will not be allowed here. As usual, it is also possible to park under the highway across from what used to be Sonar, but please note that this is city metered parking and will run you at least $10/day if you feed the meter until you want to leave.

Dammit. This is starting to look awesomer and awesomer, but I didn't buy tickets this year because I went last year and couldn't see getting the green light to go two years in a row unless there were something unmissable about it (which a few months ago, there wasn't). Now this thing has Gorguts, Unleashed, Triptykon, Asphyx, Torche, Windhand, Black Breath, Ulcerate, Hooded Menace and a fuckton of other great shit on here. Fuck. FUCK. FUCK!!!

It's really nothing unusual for a fest this scope and size. Luckily there haven't been any horrific drop-off's except for maybe Ulver (although if you were going to MDF to see Ulver, fuck you)

Here's the entire announcement:

MDF XII NEWS AND NOTES (Friday Soundstage changes, Sidebar band info, vendors, parking, and more!). This is a lot of information. Please read.

BAND CHANGES:

The following bands on Friday at Soundstage have cancelled: ROTTING OUT (due to surgeries that a band member must undergo), ANTISECT (due to a family matter that a band member must be present for), and ENDORPHINS LOST (van broke down and they can't tour now).

IMPALED, ACxDC, and PNEUMATIC SLAUGHTER have confirmed to play on Friday at Soundstage.

Also, on a recent visit to the US embassy, ORATOR was told that they cannot come to the US next month, so they will not be playing on Saturday at the Edison Lot. The band is confident that they'll be able to come here next year, and if so, we will book them then. We will be giving most bands playing on Saturday at the Edison Lot a longer set time and NOT announcing a replacement.

SIDEBAR INFORMATION:

During each day of the fest, bands will also be playing at the Sidebar, which is located at 218 E. Lexington Street. The shows here are FREE, no matter if you're a MDF ticket holder or not. Doors at 8:00, first band around 9:00 on each day at the Sidebar.
Here's who will be playing there:

Thursday, May 22nd
Dopecopper
Bastard Sapling
Cemetery Piss
Monger

Friday, May 23rd
Nightbitch
Tombstalker
Crypter
Casket
Inverted Trifixion

Saturday, May 24th
Ashencult
The Pilgrim
Skelptarsis
Soft Dov
Wounded Giant

Sunday, May 25th
Pneumatic Slaughter
Yautja
Old Lines
Visceral Disgorge
Symbolic

PARKING: As we said previously, due to a change in agreement with the Edison space, we will not be selling weekend parking passes online before the festival. That said, if you want to park in the lot adjacent to the lot where bands will be playing, you can do so at a daily rate of $10 that can be paid each day when you arrive. Also, please note that overnight parking will NOT be permitted here.

VENDORS:

Will be located at the Edison Lot.
Here is a list of confirmed vendors:
Bazillion Points, Black Mess / Acid Queen Jewelry, Century Media Records, ChopoBrujos, Crucial Blast Records, Deathgasm Records, Decibel Magazine, Deepsend Records, The End Records, Five Point Records, Forever Plagued Records, Handshake Inc, Haunted Hotel Records, Hells Headbangers, Helveta Vyotlag, Hype Ignition, IndieMerch, JSR Direct, Lace Pickups, Largactyl Records, Lock and Shock, Old Cemetery Records, Relapse Records, Salvation Distro, Season of Mist, Sevared Records, Sunflower Glass Company, Unholy Anarchy Records, Useless Christ Records, Utterly Somber, Vienna Music Exchange, Warlord Clothing

FOOD/DRINK AT THE EDISON LOT:

We are bringing in a concessions company that will provide you with a variety of choices in the beer and liquor department. The food options will also be the best that we've ever had. Zombie BBQ and the Thai food vendor will be back. There will also be several vendors serving the typical food found at any festival (burgers, chicken tenders, etc), Mexican (burritos, tacos, etc), Greek (gyros), Asian noodle dishes, several vegan/vegetarian vendors, and a coffee and smoothie vendor. In other words, bring your thirst and hunger to MDF!

SEATING/SHADE:

When you need to give your legs a break, there will be a large tented area/beer garden at the Edison Lot with several dozen picnic tables.

ATM's:

Will be on site at the Edison Lot.

SCHEDULE:

For all days/venues/stages will be posted no later than next weekend.

TICKETS:

3 Day Passes (Fri-Sun) and individual day tickets for the Edison Lot remain on sale at the link below:

Goddamn it, every time this thread is bumped someone I want to see drops off. I'm glad at least I decided to go see Rotting Out a month or two ago. ACxDC and Impaled are good replacements though, the latter I haven't seen since like 2007. And those free shows are rad too, assuming I have anytime/not totally exhausted I'd totally go see Yautja/Visceral Disgorge.

If Impaled play a set even half as good as the one I saw last night, you guys are in for a treat. With them there's a weirdly high chance of things going wrong: shitty mix, equipment failure, under practiced etc. But when things are good, I'll be damned if they aren't one of the best live death metal bands in the world.

Here is the running order for MDF XII. This information will be on our website this evening, including a downloadable/printable PDF of this schedule.

EDISON LOT:

2 stages, which are labeled as “A” and “B”, will be located at 545 N. High Street (Edison parking lot), which is 1-2 blocks from the old location of Sonar. When a band finishes their set on one stage, another will start within a few minutes on the other stage. This is how bands are scheduled each day at the Edison Lot.

We will have a vendor village set up at the Edison Lot, which will be a combination of personal 10’x10’ tents and one larger tent that will serve as the “indoor” vendor area. All of the vendors will be located in one general area, so it will be easier to find any particular vendor that you’re looking for.

Here is a list of confirmed vendors: Bazillion Points, Black Mess / Acid Queen Jewelry, Century Media Records, ChopoBrujos, Crucial Blast Records, Deathgasm Records, Decibel Magazine, Deepsend Records, The End Records, Five Point Records, Forever Plagued Records, Handshake Inc, Haunted Hotel Records, Hells Headbangers, Helveta Vyotlag, Hype Ignition, IndieMerch, JSR Direct, Lace Pickups, Largactyl Records, Lock and Shock, Old Cemetery Records, Relapse Records, Salvation Distro, Season of Mist, Sevared Records, Sunflower Glass Company, Unholy Anarchy Records, Useless Christ Records, Utterly Somber, Vienna Music Exchange, Warlord Clothing

ATM's:

EMT/FIRST AID:

Will be located at the front entrance of Edison Lot. Please go here if you require any medical assistance during the event.

RAMS HEAD:

On Thursday, May 22nd, bands will only be playing at Rams Head Live, located in the Power Plant Live! section of downtown Baltimore at 20 Market Pl. On Friday-Sunday, bands will start here around the time bands are wrapping up at the Edison Lot.

SOUNDSTAGE:

On Friday-Sunday, once again, we are doing a grind/hardcore/punk/crust stage at Baltimore Soundstage, located across the street from Rams Head Live at 124 Market pl.

SIDEBAR INFORMATION:

During each day of the fest, bands will also be playing at the Sidebar, which is located at 218 E. Lexington Street. The shows here are FREE, no matter if you're a MDF ticket holder or not. Doors at 8:00, first band around 9:00 on each day at the Sidebar (Set times TBA)

Seeing Bölzer and Hooded Menace would be great, but do you really want to miss ALL of Dark Angel's set? Every press release has said that they're doing a limited number of shows, which so far are only big festivals. Of course it is possible that it could turn into something more, but Gene has plenty of other projects he could focus on and the rest of the band has not been very active in the metal scene for years now, so I wouldn't count on them doing a full tour. Don't waste the opportunity to watch at least some of their set, because you don't know if it will be your only chance.

No, its a preshow while all the shitty drone bands are playing. Go on Facebook and type in Horrendous, Locusta, and Coffin Dust matinee and you should be able to find it. I'm using my phone or I would send you the link.

I just realized the Tribe is playing the O's in Baltimore during this entire thing. I've always wanted to go to Camden Yards. I've seen games in about a dozen different MLB ballparks, and this is one of the nicest ones that I haven't visited yet. Both times I've been to MDF in the past, the O's were out of town, and this time not only are they in town, but they're playing my home team - and I can't go.

Well now, except for Coffins, I dont care at all for thursday show.. Do you guys know any good bars in the area of Rams Head where I can watch the hockey game?

Maryland Deathfest Folks, please refrain from posting "fill the spot with x band" comments. Not every band (hardly any, for that matter) playing MDF will be in town on Wednesday and ready to play on Thursday. The schedule may be adjusted slightly with longer set times for the other bands, but that is it.

Maryland Deathfest To clarify, we are not adding a band and we are not issuing refunds. Please be realistic. Money was spent on non-refundable airfare and visa costs, so the budget for a replacement is zero dollars.

Being realistic... I bet they could find a good quality local band will to play for zero dollars and zero cents. Said band would probably get way more people watching them they would have normally because there'll be a load of Triptykon fans knocking around with nothing to do.

Ahh the plight of the concert promoter. Book a show with a certain band advertised, get people to pay money on that premise, have act cancel (the main act no less) and offer no recourse. I guess it's always helpful to keep in mind you as the fan aren't just paying to see the band perform, you're entering into a contract unbeknownst to you as a third party travel agent in assisting in booking their travel, visas, hotel stays, etc.

It's cute when promoters give you no facts or information up front like this on this premise, and then proceed to ask you to be realistic, as if you knew beforehand you were entered into this arrangement.

How about Thursday is "1-free-beer" day? Surely that would please folks and increase ticket sales at the same time.

I like the 1-free-beer idea.
I don't think MDF's stance on this is ridiculous, though. If it's a regular show like a tour stop and the headliner cancels, yes, I expect a refund.
In a case like this, you're essentially buying a ticket for the whole event in general. I purchase the ticket with the understanding that if a lineup change causes me to decide not to go, then it's on me to try to sell my ticket in the secondary market.

Not necessarily. I'm not buying a ticket for the whole event, I'm actually only going Sunday. Of course, the "festival" thing makes it much tougher when a lineup change occurs and that's understandable and puts the organizers in a bind PR wise, an uncomfortable situation indeed. But when it's your headliner and not some loser opening band or two that drops, to simply come out and essentially say "tough titties", I don't think that's right either.

It's the risk a fan takes I guess with the festival structure, but I don't think they should be so hard ass either.

The security only made it worse. With the barrier being there the guy should have known not to get on stage in the first place, but if the security didn't full on tackle him then Kirk wouldn't have been bumped into. He should have been grabbed and calmly escorted off stage, but based on previous MDF reviews it's not surprising to see that the security acted with force instead of reason.

It's just a giant miscommunication. The kid jumped on stage for his favorite band and security over reacted. Kirk was in the moment and had his eyes closed when it all happened. As far as he knew at the time, someone was being an idiot and ruining his set or attracting him. It was only a kick. The singer of Leftover Crack beat my friend with a bass cause he bumped into him in on stage in 2008. If you read the comment section on that video, I guess the kid who was on stage is devistated from the whole situation. He never intended to fall into Kirk.

Stagediving at a huge venue is one thing, stagediving in a tiny room during a hardcore show with like 300 other people is another thing.

Also the band and the venue have to know about it / be okay with it. If a band wants it and are planning on it happening everything is set with the venue a head of time.

It's because kids in our generation are dumb attention whores man. They have to make the show about themselves instead of letting the musicians be the center of attention.

I'm all for moshing and circle pits. To me, that's just a logical physical extension of headbanging or even just dancing. But stage-diving is as Kirk said, it's invading the band's office. The stage is their place where they do their job, it isn't the audience's place to fuck with that, especially when the band is just trying to basically entertain the crowd.
