Heh, I always forget FTTB is a) a lottery, and b) something people care about.

Last year I had two FTTB wristbands to give away. This year sadly I have none as I have seated tickets, I believe.

The venues I've seen Maiden at have always been either all seats or have a small pit, so the wristband thing has never been a huge deal

Indeed. I saw them at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow and Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden last year. Camden especially had such a tiny pit, it really didn't matter. Marginally more relevant at Jiffy Lube, but not really. There weren't enough people with wristbands for it to make much difference at all to the people with pit tickets but not wristband.

It's not uncommon for close seats to open up in the days leading up to a show. Radio stations who were giving tickets away will end up giving any left over tickets back to the venue to sell. Also, once the stage is set up, it may not be blocking as many seats as they first thought, so seats can open up that way to.

There is this fan one:

Hello everyone we have a place to eat drink and be Maiden! It's a place called Rock Bottom. http://www.rockbottom.com/locations/...le?action=view
We loved this place! It's got a huge food menu, a micro brewery, an upstairs patio, a downstairs patio, restaurant seating,a bar, pool tables and they already play rock! I'm trying to get them to metal it up the day of the meet but no promises.
We will start at 1 right after the lunch rush but I will be there early to get situated. If you have any questions feel free to email me bsidesalon@yahoo.com. I also want to let you know that both venues are all ages so you can bring your young Maiden fans if you want! They have food upstairs on the patio but they have a full menu inside so if your really hungry you might want to eat in the restaurant or bar inside.

The night before we are having a show at a place called the Rutledge
http://www.therutledgelmv.com/
Show starts at 730 pm it's also all ages so you can bring the young ones.
here is the event page
https://www.facebook.com/events/218197908336778/

I have created a Facebook page for the meetup so join that if you can so I can keep a head count to give to both places
https://www.facebook.com/Bsidesalon/events

The after party will be at Fleet Street in Printers Alley
Lets all meet at the big Bridgestone Arena outside and head over as a group.
http://www.fleetstreetpub.com/
If you get a chance before the Rock Bottom Party or your not coming to the after party please stop by Fleet Street. They have Awesome food, great beer and a really cool vibe in there. They are also going to the Maiden show and are having their own pre party at their place. I might stop there first if I have time.

So are we KC Maiden-goers meeting up across from the Sprint Center at P&L (restaurants and bars) or a bit down the street at the Czar Bar for that official meetup thing?

I'm kinda partial to P&L because I'm planning on parking in the garage across the street from the Sprint Center.

I don't get off til 3, so it'll probably be around 3:30 that I actually get down there, parked and get my ticket.

But I guess I was expecting the second coming after all the hype about "best live band evar" I've been reading for years. Out of the recent "greatest hits" tours from old-ish British metal bands, I thought Judas Priest's Epitaph show was better.

Agreed. I've seen the Big 4, Sabbath, Priest, ACDC, Motorhead, Kiss, Pantera live and when I saw Maiden in Nashville a few nights ago it was better than the rest. It exceeded my expectations. The production was over the top, the sound was flawless and the energy was at a high level.

Same. I'm also generally way more of a Priest fan than a Maiden fan (much more variety within the Priest catalog IMO), but I find myself going apeshit or looking with this feeling of wonder with Priest whereas with Maiden I just kind of chill out and enjoy the show.

For just music, I love Maiden more than Priest. When it comes to concert, I def enjoy Priest more, they look just tight and have everything u would expect from a traditional metal band. But Maiden has better stage productions and stuff, more energy, what they bring is more like an ultimate concert experience.

I mean I don't wanna be that guy but...

Judas Priest has some killer songs and they're one of my favorite bands and they destroyed when I saw them, but Maiden blew them away in every aspect of the live show. And not just because "ooh, lookit Maiden using animatronic puppets and props and fire" but in the performance too. I also think Bruce is a better live vocalist nowadays than Rob.

Yeah, I mean I love Priest but Rob is a real drain on their live show nowadays in my opinion. He sounds really rough on a lot of the recent live recordings I've heard, plus he just sort of stares at the ground for half the set. Although I haven't gotten to see Priest live since 2009 so I dunno.

If I had to nitpick just one issue with Maiden, I thought they slowed down some of their songs, especially Wasted Years. But they kicked straight into Phantom of the Opera and The Trooper and everything, so they've still got it!

he just sort of stares at the ground for half the set.

He uses a teleprompter also. I love Priest but I tell it like it is. As far as my experiences Maiden has much better stage presence and stage show. Priest is always tighter and never had the sound be off like when I saw Maiden a few times.

they did slowed some songs but that's because they thought they were playing them too fast not because they can't play them like in the 80's. That's part of the reason Adrian left back then as he said on the Maiden England documentary. Also Bruce would be able to sing these songs as fast a before for a whole tour.

and seriously I saw Priest twice in '86 et '88 and and even back then they were not even close to the mighty Maiden, but yeah that's just me

Cheers !

Yeah, as soon as they went into The Trooper and Aces High and stuff, I knew they could play the fast songs just fine.

Wasted Years was too slow the other night in Raleigh but the tempo was up some in Nashville.

Rob's performance on the last Epitaph tour was outstanding. He was hitting screams that he couldn't have done for like an entire decade prior, not to mention the shows were 2 hours and 20 minutes long- I'm pretty sure Maiden has never done a set that long with Bruce. He also ditched the teleprompter almost entirely and was moving around much more than in recent tours. He's still no Bruce when it comes to both stage presence and vocal performance, but he sounded damn good for a 60-something guy onstage for 2 and a half hours every night.

I'm not surprised that this is what happens on the message board where "Iron Maiden is the standard for which all metal shows are compared to", but still disappointed.

I hate it when people compare Priest to Maiden in terms of live shows because there's almost a 5-6 year difference between them. Of course Rob, Glenn and Ian are gonna be sluggish in comparison, they're all in their 60s!

Priest has been sluggish for 5-10 years, and Maiden will not be in 5 years.

Wrong.

Priest's farewell show in 2011 was awesome and actually sounded good compared to Maiden's muddy as fuck mix last year. The only thing I give Bruce over Rob is amount of energy & presence. Listen to "The Mower" from Rob's last solo album. He was 59 when he recorded that. Bruce is 54 right now. Age catches up with everyone. If Maiden wants to squeeze out another 5 solid years, they should start tuning down half a step so Bruce won't have to continuously strain himself.

I saw Priest in 08 or 09, and they were not even close to the same level as Maiden live. That's all I am saying.

Good point about the sound mix. I forgot to mention that, seen Maiden 3 times with fucked up mix, Priest never had those problems. And Rob in his prime was better than Bruce in his. It's my opinion, I know most people won't like it but I don't give a shit.
I love both bands, just trying to be honest. Not biased towards either. Most of the time it comes down to opinions anyways.

Not sure how you can say they were sluggish for like 5 to 10 years, you saw them once.

Quick question for those whole already saw this tour. Did you guys see any tour programs for sale?

There is one of those small ones that can also double as a poster. Kind of a program, but not as big as a traditional one.

No programs, just really expensive merch. There was, however, a poster for $10 that had the Maiden England tour artwork on it with the tour dates.

Awesome looking crowd. Also, I'm glad to see that they've made this formal announcement of the end of Maiden England as there were rumors that it could go into 2014 in places like Australia and Japan. It sucks that they didn't get shows but I'm ready for a new tour theme after two years.

As long as the "2013" bit of the first sentence doesn't imply it could be back next year.;)
