For all you collectors out there.

I'm not talking about re-releases or special editions of an album with a poster, a t-shirt and five DVD's of bonus footage. I mean a single album (double albums do count), CD or vinyl?

I remember before the internet was popular (around 1999) Slayers 'Reign in Blood' was only available on import in Canada. I bought it for thirty dollars Canadian plus tax, so in the end it came close to thirty five dollars.

Some other notables are the early Enslaved albums were all twenty eight dollars plus taxes in Canada until recently (a.k.a. after I'd bought them all). Then they all dropped to around fifteen to twenty dollars. And I remember forever seeing the Dillenger Escape Plans 'Under the Running Board' for twenty five dollars at my local record store. I never bought it, and after I found out it was only seven minutes long I was glad I didn't (I did hear it thought and it was pretty good).

But there has to be worse.

I paid about $40 for a (used) vinyl copy of Sleater-Kinney's first album, and a similar price for their first 7".

Black Sabbath - Cross Purposes

Never released in the states, so I had to track it down on eBay.

After shipping, it came to 28 bucks.

Not counting box sets, probably the vinyl reissue of The Shape of Punk to Come that came out last record store day. It was about $25.

$30 for a vinyl copy of Nothingface by Voivod. I think I paid somewhere around that amount for a vinyl copy of Extreme Aggression by Kreator as well.

For just a regular album? Probably 15. Back in the day before I realised everything ends up cheap eventually.

$45 for a Sexmachine Guns album at a Japan imports shop.

I paid $30-35 for a couple of Believer and Atheist albums from eBay earlier in the past decade, but I stopped doing that because right after I'd buy them, official regularly-priced reissues kept being announced. LOL

I spent $100 on an original vinyl press of Sleep's Holy Mountain. Totally worth it. :stoned:

I used to spend 30 to 50 bucks on vinyl imports pretty often. I've learned to be a little more patient and wait for a US distros to pick up releases I'm interested in. I think I spent around $50 for a copy of Fall of Efrafa's Elil.

I forgot exactly how much, but about $60-70 on a white vinyl first pressing of Leviathan, which there are only 100 of. Wasn't too shabby considering a regular copy was going for 50, but now they've repressed the shit out of it and you can get them for 25 or 30
