Full Review (http://heavymetalcowboysteve.blogspot.com/2013/03/nile-mikhail-acid-deth-kvlt-empire.html)- pics coming soon, including merch (shirts were on special) (http://metalcowboy.tumblr.com/post/44784821248/nile-empire-3-6-2013-shirts-note-the-nile)

Openers:
Acid Deth Kvlt- sludgy black metal that I found unremarkable
Mikhail- younger death metal that seemed to go all over the place, but has potential.

Cannabis Corpse dropped off (at least this night) at the last minute, so I was disappointed because I kind of wanted to see them. But Nile's 2 sets more than made up for it, IMO.

I was expecting them to do a 'Night with Nile' a ala Amon Amarth and play their new album, then some old songs. I believe they played songs from every album, and it seemed like a nice variety. I'm not a hardcore Nile fan, so they can weigh in on that, but IMO it sounded good.

Sonically, Nile sounded very good. Sometimes the lead was a bit conflicting with the drums, but other than that it was fine. The crowd had some pits going, as expected- pretty wild. There were a couple guys in Hawaiian shirts AND SHORTS that seemed a bit intoxicated and were constantly in the pit.

Some people I know are going to Worcester for this on Friday. Those sets just made me regret declining their offer to take me with them (due low budget, but still, THOSE SETS).

Unas Slayer of the Gods! I'm glad that there are only three songs from the new album. I wish Annihilation of the Wicked or User-Maat-Re was in there, but those are still great sets! :rocker: I don't know how they (especially George Kollias) can play for that long without collapsing from exhaustion.

Those sets are sick! I'm kinda regretting not taking the night off from work for this... it would have been worth having the managers pissed at me haha.

"black hand" is "The Black Hand Of Set" from their debut EP, 'Festivals Of Atonement'. Very underrated part of Nile's discography. Also of note, they only played the last part of "4th Arra Of Dagon." It would've been nice if they played the whole song, but I've seen them play it the last time I saw them.

Like the OP, I was a bit bummed that Cannabis Corpse cancelled last minute. I was really looking forward to seeing them with Landphil on vocals. Nile was AMAZING though, totally made up for their absence and then some.

I've got videos of 4 songs from the second set that you are all welcome to check out. Killer sets, Karl Sanders was cool and hung out at the merch booth most of the night. After the show he stayed on stage talking to fans and signing stuff until he had talked to every fan who wanted to. Also, Empire had $3 beers from Port City Brewery all night! In all it was a kick ass time.

I was at that show too...great time. Only addition to the set list above is that they also played Cast Down the heretic. And the hawaiian shirt guys were a riot.

Fucking this. I'd kill to see "Annihilation" live.

...Then again, I'd have killed to see most of these songs, so I'm good! :rocker:

I've got photos of both set lists that you can see below, if you click through you can see the correct song titles, including the 17 word one that starts with Papyrus.
