"«Sôl austan, Mâni vestan» will feature ≈58 minutes of instrumental electronic music, that can best be described as relaxing, slow-paced, contemplative and very much original. You have not heard anything like this before, although we can compare it to other electronic music, such as Tangerine Dream, from the 1980ies — and I guess to old electronic Burzum music as well."

He's really making up for lost time. Isn't this his fifth album since 2010? I haven't heard any of them, are any of them any good?

Belus is great, Fallen was okay. Umskiptar was kinda bad because it seems like Varg just wants to keep making the same album over and over.

Seems like that wont be the case with this one.

I can't see an ambient Burzum album being too good. It will probably be better than the albums he made in Prison at least.

I liked the ambient songs off Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Filosofem but they were a little long. Not sure a whole album wouldn't be stretching it.

Yeah. On one hand I'm really glad he's just not cranking out another black metal record, but on the other hand I don't think anyone was too big a fan of his keyboard albums.

And besides, why listen to that when you can just listen to Summoning instead?

This.
Meh we'll see how it is. So far all 3 albums were on my end of the year list.

I liked Fallen more than Belus, but I don't think that him wanting to keep making the same album over and over again was the case for Umskiptar, considering that nothing else he's ever done sounds anything quite like that. With that being said, Umskiptar is definitely the worst thing he's ever done in my opinion.

However, I can get excited for this one, since I actually really enjoy the two electronic albums he did before. I could actually see him coming up with some pretty cool stuff for this release to be honest.

Varg has to have a Casio Keyboard endorsement by now, right?

Samples are on Amazon now. It's hard to get a feel for songs based on short clips, but they sound promising. I suspect most fans won't be into it though.

For those who haven't seen it yet, here is the artwork, which is plagued by Varg's new obsession with the papyrus font.

In other news, Varg discovered YouTube and started uploading videos this week. He says "proper" ones (possibly vlogs ) are to come.

The artwork is pretty nice.

I really hope he starts doing vlogs. That would be amazing.

Burzum appeared from nowhere in 1991 with a demo tape made up of a dozen guitars-and-bass-only tracks in rehearsal quality. I made a few more or less successful metal albums, but they all always included at least some ambient music. With time I moved further and further away from metal, and today only the ambient music remains. Today (2013) I think I am done playing metal music for good.

Many of you followed Burzum through the years, some even from the beginning, and I think metal-Burzum deserves a proper "good bye". So, just like I started out I will finish metal-Burzum with a guitars-and-bass-only track in rehearsal quality. "Back to the Shadows" is made up of the last metal riffs I ever made (in 2012). It was never released in any way, or recorded (beyond what you hear here), and it will not either -- beyond this short "video".

Take it for what it is; a sentimental good bye to metal-Burzum.
