Thought I'd start this thread.

Just saw Stand Up Guys today and it is great. Pacino and Walken are perfect together.

I'll end up giving it a good 8/10.

So far I've seen Texas Chainsaw 3D (sucked), A Haunted House (meh), and Mama (surprisingly not bad at all).

I'm most looking forward to Evil Dead. Has anyone else seen the red band trailer?

Also S-VHS (sequel to V/H/S) has directors from Hobo With a Shotgun and The Raid: Redemption so I'm pretty pumped for it even if I thought the first was disappointing.

That new Evil Dead trailer is sick but i'm remaining doubtful, I don't want to get hyped up only to be disappointed.

I haven't been to the movies yet this month but I want to see The Last Stand.

I saw The Last Stand on Friday. It was a fucking great B-action movie (one of the better ones to come in the past few years tbh.) Definitely a fitting comeback for Schwarzenegger.

I also saw Gangster Squad which was also a really good and entertaining action movie with an excellent cast.

I'm looking forward to:

Iron Man 3
Thor 2
Pacific Rim
Kick Ass 2
Place Beyond the Pines
Star Treck: Into Darkness
The World's End
World War Z
Ender's Game
Sin City 2
Warm Bodies
Monsters University
Machete Kills
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug
Anchorman 2
Jack Ryan

Texas Chainsaw was decent. I think I liked it more since I am a die hard fan of the series. 3D sucked though.

Evil Dead I think will be great because they aren't holding back on anything for the movie.

I still really want to see Gangster Squad.

Based on everything Evil Dead has going for it, it has no right to be anything less than amazing.

I'm a bit late but I saw Django Unchained tonight. I didn't really like it. The violence was gratuitus (sp) but got a little too over the top. And it seemed to me a few times like it didn't know what genre it wanted to be. It went from serious, to a comedy then back. I know with Tarentino that's part of his style. And I didn't like the integration of hip-hop in the soundtrack. It pretty much lost me in the dinner scene, where they were buying Broomheilda. I was ready for it to be over then.

I always feel like Tarentino is a closet racist with his liberal usage of the "N-word". Yeah, yeah, I know this movie was all about slavery. But I remember it being used a lot in the Bonnie Situation segment of Pulp Fiction and I thought the guy seemed to be enjoying using his artistic freedom a little too much.

Jamie Foxx was really good though. I can't believe that's the same guy who played Wanda on In Living Colour. He's done well.

Saw A Good Day To Die Hard on Friday.

Enjoyed it, and liked the fact that it's nothing like a typical Die Hard movie.

Fuck cinema prices though. I knew there was a reason I hadn't seen anything in the cinema since The Dark Knight Rises. 13 (~$20) each? I'll wait for DVDs.

Saw Snitch the other day.

Actually really good drama with a serious message.

Not very many places make a distinction. But tickets are pretty cheap here. Matinees are $5, and I rarely go to evening shows (those are 10).

So what you're saying is, you have no excuse ;)

Admittedly though most of what I've wanted to see in 2013 is stuff the US had at the tail end of 2012, like Django Unchained and Lincoln.

Only thing I've seen is Die Hard 5.

Very little to take interest in alright. Cloud Atlas looks awesome but I've yet to finish the book so probably won't catch that in the cinema. Warm Bodies looked decent but I didn't get to see it. I seen The Hardy Bucks film and that sucked pretty hard. Wreck-It Ralph is so far the only stand out film I've seen this year.

Yep, pretty stoked on the Kick-Ass 2 trailer. I don't think it'll be as good as the first one, because a.) Matt Vaughan isn't directing and b.) part of the charm of the first one was that it was fairly original as far as superhero movies go. I'm sure I'll nitpick it a lot, but frankly as long as Hit-Girl shoots a lot of people in the face, I'll enjoy it.

Check it out, it's interesting to say the least. I have to watch it again to form a firm opinion on it, but I'm giving it 3/5 atm.

The thing that's killing me though is the amount of backlash it's getting from mainstream audiences. It's a social commentary on how batshit crazy the party culture is in the United States right now (it really does a great job of capturing just how insane it is) and everyone is just saying it's a borderline porno with no plot. It's a lot to take in and the story is told in non-linear fashion with a lot of voiceovers and other abstract filmmaking techniques I can completely understand someone absolutely hating it (Like I said earlier, there were parts of it I hated.) Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just know what it's trying to accomplish before writing it off as a mindless piece of shit people.

It just doesn't look good to me. And with it coming out the same weekend as The Croods, Olympus Has Fallen, and whatever the one with Tina Fey/Paul Rudd is I don't see it doing amazing. Most people will write it off as a raunchy teen cash in movie.

Olympus Has Fallen is meant to be pretty good from what I'm hearing, anyone got any opinions? It was enjoyable for what it is: a brainless action flick that's literally Die Hard in the White House. I've seen worse. I wanted to see Spring Breakers, but it's only playing in one theater here for some reason and it's one of the shitty ones, so I'll wait to see if it comes to the good one next week. I was pissed because they're still showing that shitty Nicholas Sparks movie Safe Haven. Who the fuck went to see that in the first place, let alone a month and a half later?

I'm definitely going to see Jurassic Park 3D when it comes out. I don't like 3D, but I'll take any excuse to see Jurassic Park in a theater.

None of the Scary Movies were good but those things just get worse and worse. The first one was about a 5/10 and with each movie it just gets worse. I'd say they've been under 1.0 since Epic Movie.

I'm with you on that, Korine brilliantly gets his point across about the excess of the party culture in the United States and he was 100% aware when he put Disney Channel starlets in the movie that was going to hook mainstream audiences and disgust a majority of them with the content of the movie. Yeah Devil's Rejects was the only one of his movies I even mildly enjoyed, House of 1000 Corpses is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I'm heard nothing but terrible things about Lords of Salem so I'll be steering clear.

Meanwhile I saw Pain & Gain last night and it was actually really good. One of the most absurdly entertaining movies I've seen in the past few years. It's not at all the type of movie you would expect Michael Bay to make. It's very much story and character-driven movie that's extremely funny at times and features a trio of great performances from Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie as the whacked-out, bodybuilding leads as well as solid turns from the supporting cast including Tony Shaloub, Ed Harris and Rebel Wilson. A great piece of satire about achieving the American dream under any means necessary.

"Man of Steel" was pretty fucking great in my opinion. I have a few problems with it as well, but overall I was quite pleasantly surprised that there is finally a damn decent Superman movie in existence. At least it had a fairly ominous villain. No version of Lex Luthor has ever worked, and I'm not sure it ever will, but Zack Snyder's version of General Zod was as good a villain as any Superman movie has ever had, and he was even better than many of the villains in other recent superhero movies to boot.

I saw Man of Steel tonight and overall I liked it. If they were aiming to make a Superman movie on the same level as The Dark Knight i'd say they failed but it's a very entertaining action movie. It didn't feel like it was over 2 hours long because the movie never really slowed down. I thought after the opening scene on Krypton it would be an hour of Superman's childhood or some shit but the way the story was structured kept it exciting throughout the whole thing.

I'm conflicted when it comes to Pacific Rim. On one hand, it's one hell of an action movie. It's loud, fun, and the characters are interesting enough that you start to care for them. Also, the universe is one of the most fully fleshed out worlds I've seen in quite some time. On the other, it's a bit cheesy and pretentious, especially with the whole "teamwork" motif. You can really tell this was Guillermo del Toro's passion project, and that's something I loved. It's a simple concept, but that's part of the charm for me.

Because it's not. The villain was lame and the first bits of the movie were very boring. It's not even close to being top anything. Ironman was great, the sequels that came after not so much.

I found the movie to be not as over the top as I expected. Like the robots and monster battles were too slow and chunky, I mean if the movie isnt gonna be realistic(cmon the story is so chessy) then why not make the fights more fast paced and ridiculous. Also the bots and monsters themselves were so uninspired. The effects were nice however.

I saw "The Conjuring" and "The Heat" with my wife on Sunday. Two nice surprises.

I hadn't heard much buzz about "The Conjuring" before seeing it, but now that I have, I can say that it's all deserved. Great movie. Legitimately scared the shit out of me on multiple occasions, and the fact that it's based on actual events makes it even more creepy. Lili Taylor was particularly good.

On a completely different note in terms of tone, "The Heat" was pretty much useless as a suspenseful cop story but of course that wasn't the point. The plot (which basically sucks) is merely an excuse to get Melissa McCarthy onscreen with Sandra Bullock, and together, the two of them just went crazy. I laughed out loud in the theater several times, and I wasn't the only one. These two chicks are funny as hell - especially together. McCarthy has been hitting the ball out of the park quite a bit lately - she might just be one of the funniest female actors around right now, and even though her schtick is a bit one-dimensional, it makes me crack up every time. I have no idea how she is the lead character on such a stupid show as "Mike & Molly", but all the rest of her stuff is pure comedy gold.

Kick-Ass 2 was a letdown from the first one, but still fun. The writing is a massive step backwards, even more than I was expecting. There were plenty of really funny parts, though, and Hit-Girl is still fucking awesome.

I saw Planes today, it was terrible. It made Cars look Oscar worthy.

The more important part of the story is that it was the first time we ever took our oldest son to see a movie in a theatre. He's three. We were hoping he'd last a half an hour, and he did get restless after a half an hour. But he still sat there and watched the whole thing while other kids got a lot worse. And I don't really blame him for getting restless, it sucked. Maybe next we'll take him to see a GOOD animated movie.

Saw Getaway with Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez today. Next to Scary Movie 5 this is not only the worst movie I've saw in theaters this year but one of the worst movies I've saw all year. It's all one chase scene start to finish, bland action, bland chase scenes, and shitty fucking story. No wonder the movie is already bombing 5 days in.

I fear that 2015 will be the nail in the coffin for superheromovies, sequels, 3D, remakes & reboots. I've made lists for 015 and next year, and these are the movies I look forward to:

2014:

X men: DOFP
Interstellar
Noah
Godzilla
Expendables 3
Animal Rescue
Cub (Flemish movie)
Out Of The Furnace (belgian release date)
The Wolf Of Wall Street (same)
American Hustle (same)

2015:

Batman vs Superman
Assasin's Creed
Jurassic Park IV
American Sniper
The Outsider
Killer Crow
Gone Girl
Thunder Run
Silence
A Most Violent Year
Bond 24

Speaking of 2013: MOS was ok (no more no less), and I quite liked The Wolverine.

I saw it in 3D, but there's no IMAX around here unfortunately. It was a great movie, one of the best I've seen this year, and the visual effects are astonishing. Unfortunately it also tapped into some kind of primal, visceral dread in me. I had a pretty tight grip on the armrests the whole movie.

Saw Prisoners today with my wife. Holy fucking shit. Great film. Had me squirming in my chair (in a good way) quite a bit of the way through. Several actors put out some major performances, too - especially Hugh Jackman.

Prisoners was pretty great. The whole film had a really tense atmosphere and while the film takes a while to develop, it was essential to get to the climax (which was unexpected and incredibly satisfying.) I agree with Nat, the performances were absolutely fantastic as well. Hugh Jackman gives the performance of his career and Jake Gyllenhaal continues his hot streak with another award-worthy performance.

Don Jon was great, way better and different than expect. A rather graphic at times movie that strays away from the bullshit romances that plague today.

I'm about to watch This Is the End...Yeah, I saw that last week and it was a bit better than expected (which isn't saying that much, but whatever). The funniest part was that all of the actors were playing themselves, and the script had them acting towards each other in ways that I'm sure aren't accurate to their real lives, but are funny to imagine being true. Incidentally, for anyone who enjoyed this movie, I recommend checking out the Comedy Central roast of James Franco. It's basically many of the same actors doing the same thing as in the movie, but it's more realistic because they actually wrote the jokes (in most cases, anyway). In fact, some of the jokes in the roast make references to the film.

In other news, I really want to see "Gravity" in 3D. The more I hear and read about it, the better it sounds.

In other news, I saw Gravity today. I honestly think it is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Ever.

Ninety minutes of squirming in my seat (literally), tensely waiting to see what would happen next. "Rapt" is hardly a strong enough world to describe how engrossed I was.

Incredible film on every level. You must see this movie.

By the way, we didn't actually see it in 3D (because of our schedule, mainly), and personally I don't think it mattered much. Sure, it would have been cool, but let's just say that the visuals are only one of the many reasons to see this film. I predict it will rake in technical rewards like candy come Oscar time. That, or there's no justice in this fucking world at all. Bullock's performance deserves a nod as well. Simply riveting.

Oh, and one more thing. If you download this movie on the interwebs and view it on your PC, you are missing the whole damn point. If you wait until it drops on video, you're still missing the intended experience. This movie must be experienced in a theater. 3D would be nice, but as I said, it's not necessary. But yeah, go see it at the theater. You'll be glad you did.

The Counselor was pretty fucking bad. All the problems with it with are based around the script. Can't even believe that such a celebrated author like Cormac McCarthy could write a movie that is so pointless and poorly-developed. I commend all the actors involved for committing fully to their roles and trying to make the most of such a weak script, but it's not even close to enough save this film.

I'll get shit for it but not only is it one of my favorite films of the year but also the funniest of the year. It may not be original but a great cast, great writing, great chemistry and overall just a really fun time made me laugh almost nonstop to the point of tears a few times.

Aside from the random shit the brother with the beard said I never liked it either. I saw a guy who looked just like him in Vegas last April and it was pretty hilarious. The guy was making a killing getting people to pay for a picture with him. All the while a dirty-looking Homer Simpson and a Scooby Doo that looked like it had been left in the rain one too many times stood there alone...but together.
