If I love this album, then I'm going to laugh so much. I have a trend of liking every other BDM album. Loved Unhallowed and Nocturnal, but didn't like the others.

I really liked the new track. It sounded like Trevor was trying to emulate some old school death metal vocals and it came off really well.

jesus christ, the lyrics to this album are dark and uncomfortable and incredibly violent and amazing. I honestly haven't been rubbed the wrong way about a song's lyrics like I have with "Phantom Limb Masturbation" in YEARS.

any band can do "i'm a scary murderer who likes to kill people!"

it's a bit more usettling to write a song from the perspective of someone who fantasizes about chopping off his own limbs and talks about how he wants to do it

:fist:

Trevor's a great writer, but his lyrics aren't too personal. They're very much real, but in a much different way than, say, how an existentialist would depict it. But that's fine, different strokes for different folks and different bands

Addicted2metal

Not a huge fan but Trevor is very descriptive in his writing enough to make you feel uncomfortable but not enough to where it is over the top and disgusting like Cannibal corpse.

Over the top lyrics in music are the same as over the top gore in film - it's super goofy and super fun, but no one really takes it all that seriously. I dunno, just a song about having this huge erotic need to chop off your limbs just hits the creepy and gruesome qualities without spreading into the over-the-top territory.

haha I don't read that shit

Decibel is the only relevant mainstream metal publication and IMO they have great coverage of extreme music; touching on popular releases and doing a good job of scratching the surface of the underground also.

I also love Black Dahlia and next to At the Gates, some of the best melodic death metal ever. But they aren't the be all and end all of death metal. Not by a longshot.

I think you're confusing Decibel with Revolver.

The only time Slipknot has been on a Decibel cover was in '05 alongside Lamb of God and Shadows Fall for a story about the 'new wave of american heavy metal'.

Yep. When it comes to new-wave death metal, you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of bands that are as well-respected/received as Black Dahlia. I mean seriously how extreme metal bands have big followings in mainstream and underground elitist circles? This is a stupid fucking argument nonetheless, but I'd figured throw my 2 cents in anyways.

I like Black Dahlia and thoroughly enjoy them live, I just don't hold them that high in regard. They're not one of my favorite bands. Ritual was the first album of theirs that I got really into as a whole.

As far as their new album goes I still need to check it out. After my final tomorrow I will be checking out a lot of new albums I've yet to check out this year.
