This is disappointing for a Summer Slaughter lineup. I like a number of the bands but it is a step down from last year's lineup for sure and feels like a departure from the "extreme" theme of the tour.

CreptorStatus

This is pretty not extreme for the most extreme metal tour of the year...
Looks like I'll be leaving after Cattle Decapitation plays.

I'm going, Norma Jean and TDEP are enough for me.

If they replaced ASL and Periphery with decent death metal bands like Hate Eternal and Obscura this line-up would be much better. I'd take decent deathcore over these djent borefests too actually

Revocation aren't death metal, they're shitty thrash with really blatant metalcore influences. Easily the worst band there - worse than Periphery, even, which takes talent. Norma Jean is really the best band there.

Yes!

I really hope Revocation does a headlining tour before or after this. I want to see them again, but I would prefer seeing them in a small room over seeing them on a big stage opening for bands I don't really care for.

Yeah. There's only 8 bands here so I'm thinking maybe the Gojira rumor will end up being true and they are the other co-headliner. This lineup is really good imo. Yeah it's not the heaviest lineup ever, but it's whatever. I like all these bands save for Norma Jean and all the bands I've seen put on good shows.

No, they're more popular than all the other bands except for maybe Periphery.

This is unfortunately true.

Also I just wanna put this out there because it invariably comes up every time this tour gets announced: the Vader tour in 2001 is NOT related to this series of summer tours.

mastodon421

I don't think so. I'd say they are tied with Periphery for the 2nd most popular band on here.

Agree with Manks on this being the worst SS lineup yet. You go from having CC and TBDM which fit the extreme theme they have to DEP who are great but the odd choice. Same with Norma Jean and AAL. Sure they are good but they don't fit the theme at all.

Only band that would make me go (since I'm seeing DEP headline in the spring) is Cattle Decapitation. Really only half the lineup interests me.

03-22-2013, 06:45 PM
I wasn't really expecting much from this seeing as I've skipped out on the last three, but honestly I'm kind of irked, cause I really really wanna see Aeon but I'm not interested in paying $25+ to see them play a half hour set. Cattle and Revo I enjoy but have seen about a hundred times at this point, and the rest of the lineup I have pretty much zero interest in.

This is from AbsolutePunk, so take it with a grain of salt, but apparently one of the two unannounced bands is a band who's currently on tour and are waiting for their tour to finish before they announce them.

Not my point at all. Just saying this online persona doesnt represent them completely. And yes their music does blow but whatever this year's line-up already had people whining not like a bomb ass opener wouldve changed peeps minds.

Not that it matters anyways, I was not expecting the opener to be good.

If I had that mentality I wouldn't go to more than half the shows I go to. I can get friends to go see more popular bands and I drag my brother along to some small shows, but almost all of the mid-level shows I go to are alone. I agree its usually way more fun with friends but some of the best shows I have seen have been alone!

But yeah about this tour I agree that it seems unlikely that this tour will have the same draw as past years of SS, unless they do announce another big-name band, which I am not sure if they are supposed to since I stopped paying attention to this thread since this lineup doesn't do much for me.

In the last year or so I've had the honor of at least being able to meet up with JD or road trip with him to shows so I don't have to go alone. Going to a all day fest alone sucks between bands.

All very true. The Ghost Inside, Title Fight, Parkway Drive, New Found Glory Sticks and Stones are a couple of shows I attended solo and had a blast. I mean if it's must see then yeah I'll go but nothing this year has warranted that. Every show I've attended this year has been with someone.

I started writing reviews for a magazine back in July, and the one interview I've done so far was with Bryan Beller and Marco. It turned out the interview area was the dressing room, so I got in there and Guthrie was just chilling in the corner. I was only expecting to talk to Bryan, so when Marco joined in I got nervous as hell, but he may be one of the most genuinely kind artists I've met. He elaborated on answers and have some incredibly insightful stuff to say. Such a nice guy.

I'll be a shameless whore and post the interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTRYnldiG9w&feature=c4-overview&list=UUXuXwA-JxyKdQTnnkjRN_eg
