"Every day for the next 10 days, a new lyrical phrase from our brand new song 'Hollow' will be posted at @aliceinchains on Instagram. We want you to create an image inspired by or featuring a single word or phrase from those... and if don't want even is what has poptart. New song in 2 weeks titled Hollow."

Really? I don't see that. One of the things that I love about William is that he does his own thing and doesn't copy Layne.

Awesome band that's pretty underrated featuring William...

Really? I don't see that.

Then you must not be listening to him with AIC then. It's not so much that's he trying to copy Layne at all. It's just the songs wouldn't sound right if he didn't sing in a style that is like Layne's. There's no denying William sounds disturbingly a lot like Layne most of the time. I think Cantrell doing vocals also plays a big part in that to.

I had to look that up, I didn't know that was the actual title. Apparently Megadeth has competition for worst album title of the year. Megadeth's is kinda bland but this is hilariously bad.

Besides the font of the tracklisting on the back, there is not much less important than the cover and the album title. It's about the music.

I'm sure they have their reasons for calling it that. No way for us to know yet, so why judge it?

AnthG

Because anyone can judge anything, that's why, as long as you keep in mind that you're judging something only given the information you have, but with that in mind, there's nothing wrong with judging a silly album title on its own because it's silly.

Part of judging something is (should be) first deciding whether you have enough information to make a judgement.

Example, AiC are usually a pretty thoughtful band and their stuff is called what it's called for a reason. We don't know what that reason is, so I agree with Hair Metal Guy (can't remember exact name because he changed it, can't be bothered to scroll and look), we don't yet have enough information to judge whether or not it's a silly title.

Rob Zombie on the other hand doesn't write many songs with meaning, he just writes songs about horror-related stuff that he thinks sounds cool. We therefore do have enough information to judge his silly new album title.

Megadeth could go either way. It might mean something, it might just be a modern phrase Dave thinks sounds cool.

I disagree with this, mainly because I believe what was being judged was the title itself, not the potential quality of the music because of the title. Say the album comes out and the music is awesome, to me that doesn't make the title of the album any more or less silly. Same thing if the music on the album sucks. The album would be shitty and the title would be shitty. Mutually exclusive.

MPF
02-15-2013, 11:12 PM
I still hold my judgement. It's an album title, not a song title (at least not that we are aware of), it should have zero impact on the album itself. Hell most people have heard the song, Hollow, and that song is bad ass, why would the album suck now?

AnthG

No, because that album was awesome & it's one of the best produced metal albums of the last 15 years. And they released "Prophecy", not "Nostradamus", as the first single.

AnthG
02-16-2013, 03:44 PM
Maybe Prophecy was the first official single, but I remember Nostradamus being the first song released period, even if it was only online. Kind of like how for the last AIC album, A Looking In View was the first song people heard but the first official single was Check my Brain.

Prophecy may have been the first single, but Nostradamus and Visions were definitely released online before that song. I remember because those two songs were released near the end of my freshman year of high school and my friends and I thought those songs were awesome as hell and we were convinced that Nostradamus would rule. Nostradamus has enough great songs on it to fill a 45-50 minute LP, but as a two hour long double album it's about 60% interlude filler and mediocre songs. I give them credit for basically writing for themselves instead of for a particular audience for the first time since basically Stained Class, but the album as a whole really isn't very good. And as for the production, it's anything but one of the best produced of the last fifteen years or whatever. The strings all sounded like low quality keyboard samples, Ian's bass was pretty much non-existent, and Scott's drums were buried (and dude was forced to play the lamest drum parts he's ever done). If Priest had actually gone with a real producer instead of having Glenn and KK produce themselves, Nostradamus might have actually been pretty damn good.

As for AiC, I think Jerry knows that he can't really fuck with the songwriting formula he's got if he wants to still be successful. Chances are this album will be good, even if the title is weird and random.

WOLVERINEKILLS
02-16-2013, 04:35 PM
The album title is nothing than a album title. The first song released Hollow sounds good and fits nicely with the other AiC material. I think the music will speak for itself and after it is released it will be good or not so good based on the music not the album title.

I agree with you on Nostradamus. It had its moments but was overall a disappointment. I am interested to see who produces the new album and what Ritchie Faulkner adds to the creative process. I would love to hear Priest return to something along the lines of Painkiller or Screaming For Vengeance.
