But yeah, it's kills. It can go pound-for-pound up against some of Maiden's best albums.

Speaking of Spit and Argue, I saw these guys a week or so back and they were played mostly new stuff except for Face Plant and one other song, and I kept yelling Spit and Argue until they played  For a short intro track, that song is fucking nuts live.

Ok, so with repeat listens, yea this album has some cracks. For starters it's too long and some of the lyrics are kind of dumb. (Keep Your Powder Dry?)

Its not as good as The World Is Yours (or Inferno), but it's definitely better than Motorizer.

I haven't heard this album in years (probably not since 1999) and my wife got it for me for Christmas. It's still pretty good. Some of the sound effects are pretty dated (I think the album came out in 1994) but the vocals are still beautiful.

I agree that certain lyrics are repetitive, but musically it's fantastic. Philip Campbell is really the most underrated guitarist in the world, and dare I say it, better than Eddie.

I find it to be way better than The World Is Yours but not as good as Motorizer. I don't like Inferno as much as most people I think.

Yeah, Aftershock is far better than The World Is Yours. And definitely isn't too long.

Also, lyrics? On a Motorhead record? Please.

As for Phil, yes this is his best stuff for a very, very long time. But underrated? Nah. He's still sloppy as fuck live. Better than Eddie though.

Yeah, I know that the lyrics aren't that important and it only "bothers" me on a few songs like "Keep Your Powder Dry". I always found Phil ok live btw ;)

Must finally buy Bastards.

It's not that they're not important, lyrics are always important, it's that on a Motorhead record they're always shit. It's like saying the lyrics on a Slayer record are a bit angry.

To me, absolutely not. I think the black metal parts are a snore and wildly repetitive. The ambient stuff is cool, but it's not nearly enough to salvage the album for me. Not to mention the transitions between felt really forced and awkward to me. These guys are talented and there are some truly beautiful moments when they mellow out, it's just too jarring and dull in the heavy sections for me to enjoy it. Check it out for yourself to see what you think anyways though anyways.

Haven't heard of them, but I'd love an album recommendation sir!
Both bands have drawn comparisons to Mr. Bungle and have several members in common, including Tim Smolens, Timb Harris, Jason Schimmel and Kevin Kmetz, who has played tsugaru shamisen in both bands. Both have been on Mimicry, the label run by Trey Spruance. Both bands do a lot of genre-bending on their albums.

I'm hard-pressed to recall a favorite album of theirs - I'm pretty sure I liked them all. Check out their most recent, Palace of Mirrors. Unfortunately they're on indefinite hiatus since 2010.

I love it. I've been a casual fan for 2 or 3 years, but the new disc has actually made me more of a fan than before. I was surprised when I originally read that you weren't sold on it. I wasn't sure that we were listening to the same disc, ha ha. I am really bummed that I missed seeing them in St. Louis last night. Stupid weather hosed my trip.

It took a while to grow on me, but it happened. Long story short, it made my top ten for 2013 (so yeah, I came around :D). Glad to hear there's another fan out there. They are criminally underrated, I think. A few folks on here like them, but I don't think they get the amount of praise they truly deserve in the grand scheme of post-metal.

I don't think you are necessarily a fan of doom, but you should check out the new Avatarium disc. I think you might like it and I would be interested in what you think of it.

The Other Nat may laugh, but you're both correct in a way. I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of traditional doom, but I do certainly get into some of the newer flavors. Based on listening to a few tracks, I'd say Avatarium reminds me of a much more highly polished version of Jex Thoth, Castle or Witch Mountain. I like what I've heard so far, but it their sound does seem a bit sterile to me, what with the ultra-clean production and whatnot. I think I like my doom a little dirtier and fuzzier, but again, it's not bad. First impressions, mind you.

At any rate, thanks for the recommendation. I'll check 'em out more later. :fist:
