Neurosis
Day: Sat, Jan 5, 2013

don't know if this is a tour considering Neurosis plays a lot of one-off shows in Seattle but you never know!

Just got this promo email, this is actually quite sad:

Today, NEUROSIS has made an official band statement.

“As of today, after much thought and discussion, visual projections as we have presented them over the last 20 years will no longer be part of Neurosis live shows.

“We are going to begin the process of reinventing our live presentation. This process will begin at zero, allowing the music to speak for itself and lead us where it may. Whatever form or however long this may take is unknown.

“This also signals a parting of the ways with our visual artist of the last twelve years, Josh Graham. Josh’s tireless work and talent came at a time when we really needed it and carried us gracefully into the video age with original content we couldn’t have dreamed of when we were just starting out. Our parting comes from a place of mutual respect, friendship and understanding. We all agree that this is a step Neurosis has to take and are open to working together on specific projects in the future. We wish him success and the best of luck with all of his own musical endeavors and artistic passions.

In the spirit of sound,

-Steve, Dave, Jason, Noah, and Scott”

In conjunction with this release, Josh Graham issued the following statement:

“For us all, time for change has come. The friendships and body of work that have spawned from our time together will live on as we move forward. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with Neurosis over the last 12 years.

“As the crossroads are upon us, and we feel that the pinnacle of our collaborative efforts have been reached; we now look toward our individual futures with support and encouragement. Constant reinvention is at the heart and soul of us all, and we will all continue to persevere.

“Despite the larger picture winding down as we move on in our own directions, we will continue to work together on specific legacy projects including reissues and possibly more if/when the right projects come up.

Onward.”

-Josh Graham

Looking for a bit of advice -- I consider myself to be a casual Neurosis fan. I loved the new album, and consider A Sun That Never Sets to be one of my favorite albums, but above that, I'm not terribly familiar with them. However, I've always been interested in their live shows. I know this tour is supposed to be stripped back, but I was wondering if you guys think it'd be worth the $29 for me to check out.

Freaking a, that was an amazing first exposure to Neurosis live. I still can't hear anything, and I'm sore as hell, but it was absolutely worth it. The new material translates really well in my opinion, but Given to the Rising and Through Silver in Blood were the highlights for me.

3 shows in 8 years...christ... I'd say Electric Wizard at MDF was probably as good as this performance, but I was stoned then, and sober last night... also I don't even like Neurosis. I don't really like the soft-loud dynamics of post-metal but it was the best part of the show last night... I hadn't really listened to them before so I didn't know the songs at all, so waiting during the droning parts and wondering when they would EXPLODE was a pleasant torture, if you will... then when they finally EXPLODED, I just fucking shot forward with organic ecstasy and orgasmic energy beaming from me

@ InFlames: yeah Lincoln was on the rail in the center I'd say, and I was right behind him... he kept hitting me with his dirty metalhead hair though :bouville:

I may go to Gojira, but more than likely I'll decide to stay home. Slightly greater chance I'll go to Today is the Day. Marduk and Inquisition are actually my two favorite black metal bands but I know they'll sound like shit upstairs, so I'll more than likely skip it. I'll probably go to Nile though. Also, maybe Meshuggah, because 1) it's at Center Stage; 2) Intronaut is on it; 3) I hear Meshuggah has a great live show.

Definitely going to Terror too, dunno if you're into them.

I've been spending the weekend recording a technical metal band called Dimesland over at Trakworx Studio where Hammers of Misfortune, Ludicra and Slough Feg have recorded. Their guitarist Drew, who is also in Wild Hunt, and I found out we had a lot of the same music in common and we talked about the Neurosis show and how it was invite only. As we were tearing down only a couple hours ago dude just hands me a ticket to the show! Drew mentioned that he's friends with Dave from Neurosis and so I guess he hooked up him up. I've only been to new Emo's once and it was in the midst of SXSW last year trying to rush to make it to a free show. All I can recall is not being able to get a cab for shit and ending up in some late-night authentic Mexican joint.

Sounds about accurate. Where are you coming from, if you don't mind me asking?

Eyehategod forced to drop off the Austin show due to a family-related illness. Pain Teens are filling in instead.

Are you coming up for 35 Denton?

I doubt it. I'll be seeing Sleep at MDF and EHG plays Texas enough that I know I will see them again sooner or later. And who knows, both of them might hit SXSW this year after 35 Denton.

I almost definitely am.

I really hope so. I also plan on being at Corrections House, so I can ask Mike there about any future EHG stuff.

Speaking of, day parties and some showcases are starting to leak out. I'll be at Red 7 Friday night for Tone Deaf (Mondo Generator, Orange Goblin, Gates of Slumber, etc.).
