I just received word that Alice In Chains is putting together a package tour to coincide with their new album dropping in early April. The tour will run thru May with the band in negotiations to play Rock On The Range 2013.

Nice. Any idea what they mean by package tour? A co-headliner or something like BlackDiamondSkye was?

Not sure. I know Deftones have the same management so those two bands touring together again is very possible.

I love Deftones! I have yet to see them headline though, which is something I really want to do. Although I don't see any show I go to in the near future topping seeing Deftones and System Of A Down on the same bill as I did in August. If Deftones is on board for this tour though, I hope it is a co-headlining one where both bands get around 90 minutes. I would still consider going even if that wasn't the case because it would be cool to see Alice In Chains live, but seeing Deftones headline is even higher on my bucket list.

I can see why people may not like Deftones live. When I saw them open for Black Sabbath it was not very good. Mind you it was at the Skydome in Toronto and I'm sure the guys working the board were paid to make sure no one sounded better than Sabbath. I remember a lot of reverb.

It depends on the environment. In a small venue, yeah, I'm sure they're incredible, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they'll translate as well in amphitheaters or arenas, which I am sure is the environment that most detractors have seen them in.

I for one saw them open for SOAD in an amphitheater, and while I thought they were entertaining, I wasn't blown away or anything.

I saw Deftones during Knotfest and took pictures right in front of the guard rail for the first 3 songs for them. After that I went immediately to the side stage to wait for Lamb Of God, Deftones while they try to put on a good show....their songs make it boring. Their show is not bad for those who enjoy them, but a guy like me just finds it very boring.

Deftones sucked live between their self titled album until Diamond Eyes. Chino finally cleaned up his act and now they are better than ever. They are better in a club/theatre setting compared to a amphitheater/arena.

One reason they do not always go over well is that their sound doesn't exactly fit in with most bands. They are a band one usually loves or hates. If you aren't a fan of the music you probably won't be a fan of them live either. I still think they are the best alternative-metal band whether that be live on in the studio. Regardless, the Deftones touring with AiC comment was just that, don't get your hopes up for BlackDiamondSkye part 2 although it is slightly possible.

I guess I will always have a grudge with Deftones because my very first concert was Summer Sanitarium with Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Deftones and Mudvayne. Deftones canceled their set because he got too high before their set and couldn't perform. I will always find that to be bullshit.

If you look up videos from Knotfest, you can see all the stage antics that Deftones did and that Chino is a great frontman and can now put on energy, but a lot of their songs I can't get into. Every album since the self titled album has had a few great songs with a lot of mediocre ones.

Its all opinion but I think Diamond Eyes & Koi No Yokan far surpass their other albums except White Pony. KNY may very well be their best album yet. I suggest you give it a few listens if you have not done so yet.

Not to be a douche, but all they do is stand still. Both times. Occasionally Chino goes from standing near the drums to standing on his little riser.

Not anymore because nobody has to be convinced how great of a band AIC is. On the other hand, Deftone fans trying to convince non fans how great they are is something that will unfortunately never end.

Wah? The self-titled was mind-numbingly mediocre to me and Saturday Night Wrist flat out blew. Recently, they have gotten their shit together musically again (the tragedy of Chi's accident revitalized them as a band) Diamond Eyes is honestly my favorite records of theirs and Koi No Yokan is damn good too.

Front row center both times. It'd be hard to miss if they were doing something. The bassist was a little into it at the SOAD show this summer but the guitarist just stands there and Chino isn't exactly active either.

True, and I rarely do it but it may not be worth the drive up to Washington to bother with that terrible lineup when AiC will surely come back. You might be surprised. I went to Evansville to see Rob Zombie and Anthrax a few years ago and the attendance was much better than I expected. The floor of the place was pretty packed and the crowd was crazy. Probably the most crowd surfing that I have ever seen. During Zombie the crowd surfing was non-stop with multiple people surfing at the same time for almost the entire set. Men, women and children were going over the rail and one left on a stretcher.

Fuck yes! For once I don't have to drive 3 hours to a damn show! So pumped for AiC and a 25 minute drive home!

The Norva page doesn't list the opener but implies there will only be one BTW.

When I saw them at the Rave in 2009 it was $26.50 + a $8.20 fee.
Curious what it will be this time.

The Norfolk show is a bit pricey at 45 bucks before fees but they are a popular band playing a venue I'm sure they can sell out so I'm not surprised really.

I forgot about that. I remember thinking that was really weird at the time, because when the came to The Rave in 2006, tickets were $40.

Singer/bass player for Mastodon's little brother plays in the band. That should give a good idea as to what they sound like.

they dont sound anything like mastodon

old guitarist of torche is in the band, theres a vague resemblance musically, but the singer ruins it

duvall produced them

Ugh I really hope not.

I bought tickets to see the band at Pointfest in St. Louis. I had several friends not want to go saying they would rather 'see them on Uproar with better bands'. I'll take Volbeat and B4MV over Jane's Addiction and Coheed & Cambria any day but that is just personal preferrence. My friends aren't so happy now.

Not very fond of the uproar rumors. They have kinda strayed away from Mainstream hard rock/metal

Its either repeats or bands that are on other tours (Mayhem, Carnival of Madness, etc). I think going the route they are going will give them the ticket sales they desire and will draw in a different audience. Not so sure how that helps them in the future but it fills the void for this year.

Well with the shows I've seen them at they have no problem selling tickets. I'm seeing them twice this May and was hoping for a headlining club or theater show in fall.

I would be excited for a west coast run (to balance out the east/midwest tour they did), but I'm not so impressed with the new album and I'm not really interested in hearing those songs make up a good chunk of a headlining set.
