(3) Texans over (1) Patriots
(2) Eagles over (1) Packers

Super Bowl XLVII

Eagles 24, Texans 20
------------

My SB pick is all based on Vick and Schwab staying healthy the entire year, a tougher assignment for Vick who hasn't played a whole season in a while but I'm thinking he finally gets the message to protect his body more

Also see Rodger Goodell sweat buckets with the Saints advancing in the playoffs; could you image the Saints becoming the first team to play the SB in their own stadium, winning it and him having to walk to mid field to present the trophy? That is quality TV right there

Can someone explain to me what the hell the Jets are doing? Mark Sanchez sucks. They pull him last week and put McIlroy in and win. This week they start him again, Tebows injury is better so he's backup and McIlroy sits?

Did they invest a ton of money in him? Is he a first round pick and they don't want to look stupid? Is there some good pick coming in the draft they want?

Because first rounder or most expensive player or not, it's time to cut your losses.

I'm glad I'm a Patriots fan.

That's the reason they made the deal to get Tebow. In case Sanchez kept regressing they could just put Tebow in. If he was healthy he would no doubt be the starter now. Sanchez will always get a chance to prove himself because he was the fifth pick overall and he did have some success with the Jets his first couple years in the league. I believe Sanchez can go to another team and find success again. It's just not working out with the Jets but then again nothing really ever does with that franchise.

So, DisposableJustice, it looks like you were a little off on that Eagles super bowl win huh? Who would've thought they would be this bad though?

I know right? I am shocked at how bad the downfall was At least my Texans pick is sound though

But....Broncos all the way baby I love the way we are playing

To answer the Sanchez question for adamclark it is money; I don't have the figure in front of me but the Jets owe him around $15 million next season and even if they were to cut him they would still owe a large chunk of that money and reduce the payroll they need to get other players; imo they need to trade Tebow and get him somewhere where they will actually use him like Jacksonville; he is just a waste of space on the Jets

Playoffs are here and I'm quite happy, I think you can guess why;)

Here are my picks for the wild card round; I know this thread didn't get much action during the season but post your picks and let's see who is right:cool:

Saturday

(6) Bengals @ (3) Texans

Houston was my AFC Super Bowel pick;my choice for NFC was the Eagles and that panned out well:hmm: but I am going with the Bengals for an upset. The Texans have really struggled in the past month from being the clear #1 seed to choking it all away. They do not seem like a confident bunch. I think they will play better in this game but I think the Bengals have improved and matured since the wild card meeting a year ago; They are the hot team winning 7 out of their last 8 games.

Bengals 24, Texans 20

(6) Vikings @ (3) Packers

The story of Adrian Peterson has been amazing and I think he deserves the MVP, shocking coming from a hardcore Broncos fan. He was a huge reason the Vikings were able to win last week against the Packers and pick up the #6 spot. But I think things will be very different this week in Green Bay. I would have more confidence to pick the Vikings but I don't think Christian Ponder will be able to compete with Aaron Rodgers and his experience and weapons. It will be a close one but I see the packers pulling away in the 4th

Packers 31, Vikings 17

Sunday

(5) Colts @ (4) Ravens

The story of the 2012 Colts has been nothing short of amazing. Going from 2-14, saying good bye to one of the best quaterbacks in recent history to finding out their new head coach would have to take a leave of absence due to cancer would be plenty reason to think the Colts would end up with a losing record and an another top 10 draft pick. Well, you know the rest of the story and they have shocked everyone and created a real feel good story with Pangano beating his cancer and coming back to the sidelines in time for a playoff run. Alas, I do not see them moving on to the second round. While the Ravens have struggled in the past month, I feel their playoff experience will be to the key to getting the victory. Plus, with the news that Ray Lewis will be retiring at the end of the year, it will add a little more push to get the win

Ravens 28, Colts 10

(5) Seahawks @ (4) Redskins

This the game I am looking most forward to with two rookie QB's starting; Both have had great years and surprised a lot of people. Russel Wilson is my rookie of the year because of him coming out of nowhere where Luck and RGIII were expected from the start to be in the running. However this game is not being played in Seattle where the Seahawks have cruised to the only 8-0 record at home in the NFL this season. Plus FedEx field will be insane for the first home playoff game since I was a wee lad in 1999. Another close one but the Redskins pull it off with the help of another great rooke in Alfred Morris running like mad

Redskins 27, Seahawks 17

So if my picks are right the divisonal round will be

(3) Packers @ (2) 49ers
(4) Redskins @ (1) Falcons

(4) Ravens @ (2) Patriots
(6) Bengals @ (1) Broncos

I'll post next week on my picks on the 2nd round

I like the Bengals, Packers, Ravens, and Redskins this weekend as well. The thing is most of these games could do either way, The only I would say is a lock (or the closest thing to a lock) is the Packers over the Vikings.

Maybe you guys weren't watching enough AFC North games this year, but Baltimore has been bad since about week 3. Colts by two touchdowns.

Otherwise, yeah, Bengals, Skins, Pack.

Colts aren't very good either.

Exactly. The Ravens certainly aren't great either, but they started to get their shit back together the last couple weeks of the regular season and I think they are going to play very inspired football in honor of Ray Lewis and win a close game.

Colts aren't VERY good, but there's that whole Chuckstrong thing with them. I dunno, Ravens are just a boring, elderly roster. Unless Ray Rice goes for 200 yards (and he might) I have trouble picking Joe Flacco and the corpses of Lewis and Reed.

Fair enough. Even though Ray Lewis is a shadow of his former self, his presence alone makes the Ravens play harder and they'll want to win for him in what more than likely be his last home game of his career. It's going to be a very emotional, hard-fought game from both sides and I'm excited to see how it plays out.

True, i don't think ravens or colts are good teams. Flacco blows, Ravens D is over rated. Luck throws a lot of picks, and Colts have been outscored by 30 points this year (a number that large is very unusual for a playoff team). I don't see that being a good game.

adamclark52

I really feel bad for guys like Joe Webb. You see it happen every season. The poor guy gets three snaps all season, probably sat there drinking Gatorade during most practices, then the started gets hurt and he's thrown out there and is set up for failure before the game even starts. And after the season is over who'll be selling used cars in Buttfuck, Nowhere?

I know they only have sixteen games a year so there's really no time to work on your backup QB but teams have to make the time.

The same thing happened to that poor Curtis Painter guy in Inianapolios last year (even though he was set up to fail by a team that wanted to fail). But I felt so bad for that guy.

Of course, I'm posting this at half-time so he may lead some dramatic comeback and I'll just delete this post.

well 1 for 2

Bengals could have had that game but missed on so many chances; well that's what happens when your last playoff win was 22 years ago:tp:

The Vikings really underused Web's running ability and made him look silly; I think Green Bay would win either way but if the Vikings took advantage of Web's skill set the game might have been closer

Now I look forward to the Colts/Ravens game for the Broncos to face in a week:party:

DisposableJustice
01-11-2013, 09:34 AM
Well I went 2 for 4 last week, let's see if I can do better

Saturday

(4) Ravens @ (1) Broncos

As you may know I am a huge Broncos fan so I am biased a bit but I do feel like the Broncos win this one; however right now everyone in Colorado are picking a easy blowout which I disagree with. Everyone I have heard or seen as pointed out the ass kicking we gave the Ravens back in week 15. I hate to use past games as a foundation for picking a win alone. I think the Ravens will be very well prepared and with Ray Lewis back, I think he will bring a little spark. But not enough....

Broncos 27, Ravens 20

(3) Packers @ (2) 49ers

Game of the weekend imo; It will interesting to see if the gamble to replace Alex Smith with Colin Kaepernick will work in this game. Kaepernick has played well since taking over for Smith's injury but as the cliche goes the playoffs are a whole different game. And that brings me to the Packers with Aarron Rodgers, the one QB in the NFC field with the most playoff experience and I believe that will be the difference maker. The 49ers defense will bring it but I feel like if the Packers limit their mistakes they win this one close.

Packers 20, 49ers 14

Sunday

(5) Seahawks @ (1) Falcons

All eyes on Atlanta- can they get over the hump and win a playoff game in the Mike Smith/Matt Ryan era? Once again they get the hot team that has been there undoing the past 2 games: Packers in '10 and Giants last year (I suppose you could also count the Cardinals in '08 too). The Seahawks will really push this one but I am picking the Falcons for a silly reason: if they lose a 4th playoff game in a row, 2nd with the #1 seed, they will need an armored escort out of the Georgia Dome because the fans (and maybe the owner) will be pissed. But I think they finally get over the hump and get the win

Falcons 28, Seahawks 24

(3) Texans @ (2) Patriots

Remember when I said I don't look at past matchups in the season as a reason for picking? Well this time I don't see anything different. The Texans did good by handling the Bengals, but the Patriots are in much higher class. This one will be a bit closer than the blowout in December but if you give Brady and Belichick a week to prepare they are almost flawless. Granted the Patriots aren't a 100% pick at home (see '09 with the Ravens and '10 with the Jets) but I don't see the Texans having the manpower to keep up with the Patriots in the end

Patriots 34, Texans 24

So if my picks pan out next week will be

AFC: (2) Patriots @ (1) Broncos

NFC: (3) Packers @ (1) Falcons

What do you think will happen?

I am still in shock right now over the Ravens/Broncos game; I think I had a couple stokes when we forgot to play basic defense you learn in fucking pee-wee football and back the hell up so no WR's can get past you. Add some pretty weak play calling before the "Baltimore Bomb" (I like it) and you get one of the greatest but most heartbreaking games I have seen period.

I will give props to the Ravens for coming in, trading blows with us and moving on. I don't like them, but I HATE the Patriots, so I am going to root for da birds next Sunday

btw, 2/4 again....what an ending to the Seahawks/Falcons game; if the Falcons didn't pull off that last second FG, the Georgia Dome would have rioted

Sanitarium78

I honestly thought the Broncos were going to the Super Bowl. There was no doubt in my mind that they were going to be there. But when you have basic defensive meltdowns like they did on saturday, it makes it harder to win games. Seriously, how was that guy that wide open? Still the game was awesome, it was the game of the year and easily one of the best playoff games i've ever seen.

My playoff picks are going good so far. I was 4-0 last and 3-1 this week. It would've been 4-0 again if the Broncos could've played defense.

Baltimore has gotten hot at the right time and I wouldn't be surprised if they were gonna take this all the way and try and win it for Ray Lewis so he can go out on top. They kept coming no matter what against the Broncos, they keep that up I can see another super bowl win for them.

It's strange to think how successful the Ravens have been for most of their existance, yet they only have one super bowl win:confused:

Honestly, i think Denver/Manning was such a good story this year that most people (myself included) forgot his generally suspect playoff performances. He wasn't great, and that D was atrocious. I'm no football expert, but Bailey needed safety help covering Torrie Smith.

I agree it was a failure on the coaching staff not to see that and either provide more safety help for Bailey or put another CB who could match Smith's speed and I don't think any of the CBs we have that speed

So conference championships are today; my thoughts:

NFC: (2) 49ers @ (1) Falcons

Nice to see the Falcons finally get over the playoff hump in the Smith/Ryan era in one of the best playoff games I've seen along with the crushing Ravens/Broncos game. However the Falcons will need to play a lot better for the whole 60 minutes to defeat the 49ers; SF brings much like Seattle did in a mobile QB with a good arm, a great RB in Gore and a crushing defense. What SF has that Seattle didn't is experience. The 49ers were one muffed punt away in last year's NFC championship game from a possible Super Bowl. That has got to sting for a year and I feel like the 49ers are not going to miss again this year. I doubted the switch from Alex Smith to Colin Kaepernick but Jim Harbaugh has proved me wrong, more so with the destruction of the Green Bay defense last week. I see a close game but I think the 49ers experience will help them punch their ticket to New Orleans

49ers 28, Falcons 20

AFC: (4) Ravens @ (2) Patriots

Everything on paper points to the Pats winning with Brady and Belichick in their 7th AFC title game in 12 seasons (Holy shit). But I am going to take the Ravens? Why? Nothing to do with paper but what I saw last week when they came into Denver as huge underdogs and ripped our hearts out. They traded body punches with us and kept standing. They took advantage of the horrible play our safety made to tie the game and get to overtime. I watched as my Broncos faded and the Ravens rose up. I can't explain it in a stats sense but their playoff run has be magical. Ray Lewis has been a tackling machine despite playing with one functioning arm and being beaten by TE's. My brain says the Patriots will win. My guts tell me the Ravens will continue the dream and go to New Orleans

Ravens 27, Patriots 23

So I see a Harbaugh bowl which imo is the most interesting match up of the possible 4 choices

It was a pretty sad game up until half-time. Then the power failure took the wind out of the sails for me. I probably would've enjoyed it more during the second half but I was out of it.

Beyonce sounded like shit. But it goes to show that if you're going to have a show with dancing and hair tossing and all that shit you have to have lipsyncing. I really enjoyed how much lower the other two Destiny's Child members mics were in the mix. And then when Beyonce looked at them like, "okay bitches, get off my stage".

They should really give the COACH the Lombardi trophy first. Yeah, the owner paid for the whole thing but I don't know any other sport where the owner is even on the field during the celebration.

True, i don't think ravens or colts are good teams. Flacco blows, Ravens D is over rated. Luck throws a lot of picks, and Colts have been outscored by 30 points this year (a number that large is very unusual for a playoff team). I don't see that being a good game.

Fail

Also, Ray Lewis is a phony asshole.

 well at least you called yourself out. I thought that the Ravens would be the new Eagles (no offense) because Flacco didn't seem like a Super Bowl winning QB, but who knew.

Oh, i fully admit to being a dope when needed. And no offense taken on my terrible team.
