I agree, many people disliked Mastodon, but I though they were good. The second show wasn't that successful, since I couldn't hear the second guitar and the vocals. One of the guitarists actually winked at me, so that was cool as hell, too

The band introduced it as Iceland, though. It was something like "This is a song about your nordic neighbour called ICELAND!"

Other cool introduction: "This song is about crushing and destroying. It's called Crusher Destroyer!" Stupid yet funny. :D

What kind of metal are they? From what I've heard I would imagine them as some sort of cross between metalcore and doom/stoner... :hmm:

Kind of like that, but they are extremely technically skilled as well.

I kinda want to check them out. They just bother me because they're so popular with the metalcore crowd.

As a side-note, this new conflagration of "metalcore" bands (i.e. Shadows Fall, etc., not true metalcore like D.R.I.) is IMO the new incarnation of false metal--it's LA hair metal for the 21st century.

LET EACH NOTE I NOW PLAY BE A BLACK ARROW OF DEATH SENT STRAIGHT TO THE HEART OF ALL THOSE WHO PLAY FALSE METAL

EAAAAGHHHHHHH

Don't let what other people listen to or think is cool deter you from hearing truly great music:D

Same thing on first night. Introduction for Island. "This next song is called Iceland. It's about ice." lol
