A dude in a Slayer t-shirt also flashed the horns to me while I was waiting for boarding.

Pretty shitty first day of school. Being in college I was hoping to stay clear of stereotypical high school drama, but people keep trying to pull me in and while I don't let it get to me, fuck does it get annoying. Not to mention I've been feeling pretty distant from people, even my friends. All I seem to want to do is listen to music and read in a class. Talking feels like a drag and I was most content alone in a classroom taking notes :eyes:

Well the last two days have been interesting. First I barely got confirmed for Slaughter by the Water because I ended up doing the press request insanely late. Yesterday night I got a call from a kid from one of the local bands asking for an interview. This afternoon I got a call from the dude from Fog of War for the same reason. And now an hour ago I received an email from Raul from Impaled for an interview too. As this rate I think Dave Lombardo's gonna send me a text message or something haha.

Ha! It was Hemotoxin, a death metal band, that called me first. Nick from Zombie Holocaust completely saved my ass by helping me out with the press request though. Without him the interviews definitely wouldn't be happening, and I might not have ended up even going- I owe him big time. This year ZH is on an appropriate place on the bill, and really those guys are all pretty cool dudes. Yeah hiring girls to run around on the floor is lame, and I'm still not entirely sure if they want to be a party-thrash band or something else entirely, but there are a ton bands out there that are a whole lot worse- especially here in the bay.

The set-times are a hell of a lot better than last year's from the looks of things, the headliners all get an hour. The only issue I see is that they only have ten minute changeovers on the set-times. There's no way a set or two won't be truncated.

Also I'm finally listening to the first Crimson Glory LP that I found at Amoeba in SF two days ago. Dear god this band is so fucking cool!

Well, they had that headlining benefit gig a month or so ago in Oakland, I think brutal attended that one. Frankly I'm just happy to finally see them, I missed them three times in the last two years (twice up here, once in LA) because of random reasons.

They won't disappoint you. At that benefit show they only played like 12 songs though, which I assume is around how many they will play at Slaughter by the Water. Not a short set by any means, but at the LA show they did 17 songs.

Edit: I checked the setlist, they did 13 at the benefit show.

Yeah man, but school stuff comes first always. You'll always have plenty of shows to go to, and San Jose has a pretty good metalcore/deathcore scene if you're into that. Also I just met Matt Harvey and he is one of the single coolest people I've ever met. Dude radiates awesome.

I've met some cool people from it, but the actual band experience hasn't really been all that fun yet.

And Onioner, I'm not into any -core scene. There are a select few bands I like that are considered core but as a whole, I despise it.

Tony, are there any good local bands, the only band I actively listen to that's from San Jose is Sleep  They should play a gig or two here.

Onioner
08-24-2012, 10:15 PM
Well that's mostly pretty much what San Jose has sadly. I don't like core music at all either, but that's the main thing represented around that area (don't lump me in with them Tony, it just happens to be healthy scene). I went to high school in Los Gatos, believe me there isn't much when it comes to local music. Sleep were from San Jose and so were Exhumed, but both those bands completely relocated. From what Matt Pike told me (and some other folks I know who were around then) Sleep spent half their time in Oakland anyway, and from interviews I've seen with Matt Harvey, Exhumed apparently thrived off of the hardcore and grindcore shows from back then.

I only said the core shit was "pretty good" because shows in that style happen relatively frequently and the bands are pretty tight with each other. Even the thrash bands in the bay can't brag about that unfortunately.

Summer Slaughter was alright, last year was waaay funner. On paper line-up sounded good but live I was like hmmm I've seen every band besides Cannibal Corpse multiple times and was kinda bored. That sucks. I might see them for free in October since I know the promoter, but I'm weighing the pros and cons.

Who are the openers? JFAC headlining to me is already unappealing, then again I dont know how big of a fan of them you are.

I only started listening to them a day or two ago. I've given Gloom a listen (pretty good) and I'm going to check out Demonocracy in the next few days. The openers are local, so that's a con as it is.

I do, thanks. Frequently. And you know what, I don't need idiots like you to tell me what to think. Especially if you're dumb enough to believe that getting a bunch of people you don't even actually know to share a picture on Facebook will come even remotely close to getting anything done. I'm sure it makes you feel like you're doing your part though.

Got back from my mini-tour with Odyssey from Spokane last night. Had a hell of a time and played two amazing shows! Friday in Spokane was a blast, great crowd, great bands, etc etc etc. Some kid even asked for a pair of my sticks afterwords, great time.

Saturday in Richland wasnt bad, but it could have been better. Not a whole lot of people at the venue due to a town fair, but we still did our thing and rocked those who were there!

Also on Friday, my bands music video got released! Check it out!!

Well Walmart says school is first too. No one wants to honor it though. They act like they needed a 3 month notice for it. They knew when I was hired that I was graduating High School in June and going to college at the end of summer.

I told them the day after I got my classes and times about college. It was a week and a half before school started. It took 3 weeks for them to change my time.

First day of school was boring as crap. One of my classes is looking like it's gonna be exciting, but the other 2 so far are incredibly boring. However in one of these classes we watched a video about Generation Y and there was a guy in a Sodom shirt in the background, that was pretty cool.

I have a German class tomorrow, so hopefully, that doesn't get screwed up beyond all belief.

Pssh. Bullshit. They fired my friend like four years ago because his school schedule didn't jive with his work schedule.

Not surprised at all. I did a work-based learning thing a while ago working at a Walmart. Basically, I put back shit that got returned like TV sets, BB guns, canned food, shit like that.

I'm not even joking, if I brought up a chipped or cracked glass or a dented can, they'd tell me they'd throw it away, and then I'd see it on the shelf the next time I came back because it wasn't "really" trashed.

...I fucking hate Walmart.

dcmetal108
08-28-2012, 06:18 AM
I hate Walmart. I actually thought they'd fire me. The first day I called off for school I guess the other 2 cart guys called off. Then one of my assholes managers asked why I called off and the one manager in the store that will back me up told her it was for school. I guess she said school isn't valid enough to call off for and my manager told her I had only been trying to weeks to get it off and if she changed it where my call off didn't matter to expect hell from me.

The Walmart I am at has to be run by the dumbest pieces of shit ever and it's by far the worst run and dirtiest walmart I work at. Thank god I at least get to be outside sometimes.

Though yesterday I did have a customer get in my face and employees came over thinking he wanted to fight me because he did. All because I asked him excuse me 2 times so I could bring in carts since he was blocking my way, other peoples way, and traffic by making me stop.

Thanks man! I love playing in Spokane, the crowd there is far better than the crowd here in Seattle. At one point my bassist stepped on one of my guitarists cables, causing his amp head to fall off of his cab. He spent 5 minutes fixing his stuff during our set, so instead of having that awkward silence, I did a few drum parts that people would recognize....

- Mouth For War (with other guitarist) by Pantera

Just got back from Goatwhore. I'm so pumped up that I won't be able to sleep - which bites, since I have school and a post-school class immediately after that (ending at 6:30 - it's 2:55 AM now).

Origin's last show was in Chicago for this tour, Fleshgod is now taking the main support slot for the rest of the tour.

Maybe they'll actually play songs off Oracles... it seems like they're just forgetting they ever did that album, which is a damn shame, it's definitely their best work.

But yeah, sucks that Origin isn't on the tour anymore, they destroyed Chicago yet again this past Sunday. They made it seem like they were gonna do a Raining Blood cover, and right when they're about to kick in to the first riff, BOOM. Never Gonna Give You Up plays over the PA.

They played for 45 minutes last night, they played Requiem and i think one more off Oracles but I cant remember for sure. I agree i wish they played more from that album, although their presence alone is amazing! And yeah I wish origin was there as they are insane live but still a killer show regardless.

um yes that is bullshit. I make minimum wage which is $8.25 for hard labor that I do usually by myself. I do the work of 3 people for no respect, no recognition, and the least amount of money they can give me.

If the store was like most walmarts ive been to the job wouldn't be bad as it would be run good. Instead I work at a place where the high managers are assholes and have no respect for anyone below them and cart guys in their eyes are the lowest of the low and the store manager whenever he is there sits around and texts and talks on the phone and since hes black all managers in all postions are black so for me to go anywhere else is out of the question.

Yea we are told that taking a tip can get us fired. Usually when I am offered one they are right below a camera or something so I politely tell them I can't.

One time I took a 10 dollar tip and they never found out and if its like a 5 or something that someone is offering usually when I tell them I cant take it they will slip me it or something where the camera cant see it.

No disrespect intended, but if a cart guy isn't the low man on the totem pole at a Walmart, who is? Also, I don't think working your way up the ranks of Walmart is what you want to do. Get an education or learn a trade... and stop worrying about your black managers.

You must be on crack. I did it for ONE night when I worked at Costco and it was the worst thing ever. Definitely hard labor and a pain in the ass above all.

Thank you! Finally someone that actually knows what it is like.

It isn't a easy job. Even if you are using a machine to help push the carts all the machine really does is help push it in forward, after a certain amount of carts you still have to push it to make it work and still steer it around corners. Also the parking lot for my Walmart is slanted and by the time you get to the store it is a uphill. Carts aren't light either, the big metal carts we have weigh around 20 pounds with our lightest carts being 15 pounds. If you doing it by hand our 20 pound carts we usually push somewhere around 10 carts at time. Now on top the weight of pushing that remember we have to manually steer those ten carts and we are going uphill to the store. That's fucking hard, I don't care how big or strong you are. It kills you after a while.

Also when it is hot outside and you work outside for 8 hours you work your ass off and get beyond exhausted. When we have to do it by hand pushing groups of 5 to 10 carts at a time after a few hours kills you. All we get is a 15 minute break and lunch. The water we get is usally the same temperature as it is outside (hot as hell) and we aren't allowed in the store. So we are pushing carts NONSTOP. Also the only spot in the store that isn't allowed to stand around for a minute.

It is hard labor for sure and actually the hardest job you can really have that requires work at Walmart. That is one of the reason why cartguys come and go so quickly and they have such a hard time finding people that will do it.

Super tiring man. Plus you dont just push carts well not at Home Depot. Keep in mind too that Home Depot has various carts and is done by no machine. I had to answer loading calls and do whatever else higher ups told me like help another department while still making sure carts were full and answering all loading calls and yeah Home Dept has some heavy shit. My fav were loading them nice 90lb cement mix bags like 20 by hand. Sooo yeah just exhausting work especially cuz of the heat. Good times, glad I got a tutoring job after that so much more fulfilling and enjoyable.

Walmart that I'm at had 4 different sized carts and then electronic wheelchairs we have to get. The machine also rarely works right so its a lot by hand.

We also have to carry outs and unloading stuff along with helping customers and doing whatever else they want while doing carts.

My favorite thing is having to lift the 200lb stacks of dry wall by myself then loading the 160lb book shelfs and couches. ALL BY MYSELF!

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u638S9B4Kw) is a mariachi version of Raining Blood and Shout at the Devil. I'm going to see this band at the LA County Fair on September 13th!! Can't wait!

Speaking of RYM. I just looked on Meshuggah's page and DJent is now officially a genre there and the highest rated for them now :hecho:...and Meshuggah completely dominates the top rated Djent albums of all time list :D

I noticed that when I saw the new Periphery album on the 2012 chart. I knew it was inevitable but I still facepalmed.

Looks like I'm going to be very tight on funds these next couple of weeks, my college has had to tighten up on fees so they can't wait for my grant to come through so I've to pay for it out of my savings by next week. Bummer!

Except they don't discuss Katy Perry and Lady Gaga in their 'Latest Purchases' thread.
