Hip-hop that's discussed about on the net? Because literally everything is talked about on the net. I can understand calling something like Lil B or Riff Raff hip-hop, but how are artists like Danny Brown, Waka Flocka or Chance the Rapper meme rap? It's not like it's just people on internet forums discussing them, they're getting love from a mainstream audience too.

All non-essential gov't employees are being forced to go home, without pay, until shit gets straightened out. If it ever does. Also, NASA as a whole (except for the people working directly with the space station) has been shut down, along with all gov't funded tourist attractions (IE: Yellowstone, Statue of Liberty)

The term meme rap started getting used on /mu/ as a way to troll hip hop fans and disrupt hip hop discussion. Kinda like how the term fedoracore made it impossible to talk about trip hop or anything jazzy without being made fun of.

I'd say meme rap isn't a bad description for stuff like Lil B, Riff Raff, Yung Lean, Kitty Pryde, etc. and to a lesser extent A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown, and Odd Future.

slapguitarer
10-01-2013, 06:54 PM
Yeah like it makes sense for shit like Lil B or Riff Raff and maybe something like Yung Lean, but I wouldn't say an artist like A$AP is meme rap. Assuming people take that chart manks posted seriously, all rap is meme rap because it was all just shit that was discussed on the net, which is pretty much everything besides the new shit from people like Xzibit.

Yeah... the bit I don't get is, why?

The tourist attractions are shut down in order to make a point/statement- that congress needs to get its shit together. Fact of the matter is that the "government shutdown" isn't really the end of the country in any way, hence why necessary public services (law enforcement, air traffic control etc) continues and the stock market is basically unchanged.

Yeah... the bit I don't get is, why?
A government shutdown happens when, for whatever reason, Congress can't pass the budget bill that funds the government for the fiscal year. If they don't pass the funding bill, then by law the government cannot spend taxpayer money, hence all non-essential personnel have to be sent home without pay until it's resolved. People who are in positions that are essential to safety or national security keep working and keep getting paid.

In this case, it was caused by the Republicans refusing to pass the funding bill unless President Obama's healthcare reform was repealed or delayed, and neither side is willing to budge.

Interesting. Wouldn't happen here. The annual budget doesn't require agreement from the opposition.

The band has played a reworked version of their song "MTV Get Off the Air", re-titled "MP3 Get Off the Web", with lyrics criticizing music piracy during their October 16, 2010, concert at the Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington, D.C..

Neither does ours...if one party controls both houses of Congress. Right now, the Democrats have the presidency and the Senate, but the Republicans control the house, which basically equals one huge clusterfuck and it's why Obama can't get anything done.

Amazing. There's this Bulgarian clown on Facebook who booked a day off work, as did four friends, to go see Annihilator in London today.

He did this because the Bandsintown Facebook app auto-posted an event page for it. He didn't buy a ticket in advance, and didn't look ANYWHERE else for event details.

Had he looked at the venue website, the official venue Facebook event page, Annihilator's website, Last.fm, Ents24, any other gig listing site, or any ticketing website, he'd have realised the show was Sunday.

So not only did he, and the four friends who blindly followed him, miss the show and waste a day of leave from work, all because this unofficial event page had the wrong date, but because they didn't buy a tickets in advance, they actually travelled to the venue, tonight, only to find it closed.

Now he's blaming the venue, and saying he'll never attend another show there "even if God was playing".

He even shared the Bandsintown.com page for the correct date on his timeline. Too much stupid in one post, but so funny.

Oh man, this is totally something my friends would do. They also to seem mix up venues as well. They missed Mayhem back in 2011 because they thought the show was happening a week after it actually happened.

Don't wanna post a full review, so I'll do a mini one here...

Watain show last night

Opening local band was Occult SS. Crusty metal. I enjoyed what I heard/saw online, but they kinda bored me live. Probably the wrong environment for their kind of music/show. I'd def check out their recordings though.

Tribulation was a pleasant surprise. They blew me away completely, so fun and energetic, and weird as shit! I dug the last song they played, that disco beat was SO AMAZING. This was my first time hearing them as well, GREAT first impression.

In Solitude was everything I expected, and more. They were the main reason my GF and I went. I was under the impression they were just insanely weird on stage, but she felt they were pissed due to the cold reception the crowd was giving them. Either way, their energy was amazing, and that drummer... THAT DRUMMER. Dude kicks so much ass.

Left before Watain. Seen 'em twice and not interested in them anymore.

In case the past twelve presidents missed the memo, just because you skip the "declaration of war" phase and go straight into "butchering people, military and civilian alike" it doesn't mean you get points for not practicing this "most awful exercise of sovereignty."

Ah, okay. I'm assuming CD will always be your preferred listening format anyway.

Just in case that's not the case though, the more dust the vinyl attracts the more staticky and poppy it will be. I'm trying to eliminate this problem in my own collection, and have succeeded I think as much as I can without buying finer inner and outer sleeves. The lesser the dust in there, the better.

Oh yeah, CD will always win that competition.

I always figure with dust, if you put the inner sleeve into the out one so that the openings alternate (i.e. inner sleeve opening faces outer sleeve spine), and then the same thing with outer sleeve into poly-sleeve, then the dust has got to perform some serious chicane-turning shit to get to the vinyl, so it it makes it, it deserves it ;)

I was thinking about whether it's worth getting some of those thin inner poly sleeves. I read that long term, paper sleeves suck because the paper deteriorates and sticks to the vinyl. A couple of the ones I've bought have come in inner poly sleeves, and I think you can buy them, although they seem scarcer than the thick outer ones.

Yeah, that's what I've done as well. The vinyl itself isn't exposed, all openings are sealed by either jacket or outer sleeve. The dust will win, every time. I still have to brush off the vinyl before I play it, because there's invariably dust that somehow gets in there.

I think you're referring to static resistant inner sleeves, the kind that are clear and kind of stick to the vinyl? If so, they absolutely work. I bought Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason last year on vinyl and both vinyls were housed in those static resistant sleeves, which the seller swore to me would make a difference in the sound, and the records play completely silently. No dust at all, no static, no popping. I've never heard that album sound so good.

Also, since you haven't bought a turntable yet, they actually make ones that come with a stylus that has a brush attached that hits the vinyl before the needle, thus sort of cleaning the record as it spins. Might be worth looking into.

Yeah, those bad boys. Disappointingly expensive, I've noticed. I ordered 100 of the outer sleeves yesterday, which should be with me tomorrow. Now I've got to consider my inner sleeve options. Also, I need some outer ones for my singles. Some of those are just in the cardboard outer sleeves with absolutely no inner sleeve at all, not even a paper one. Cheap motherfuckers.

Sometimes claiming you're 'giving up' is a reasonable reaction, even if it's rarely really the case. Grief can be very therapeutic, as is well known. Grief can also be a preventative of action, and one should be very wary of that. We mustn't let grief overcome the possibility of action.

Losing a pet can be devastating. A lot of us have been there. It's best to channel the emotion in some form and do something constructive with it. Like Efrim did with A Silver Mt. Zion's first album.

My last cat and last dog were the hardest for sure, as I was older and could understand what was going on better, especially since my dog I got was when he was a puppy and I was 3 (put him to sleep when I was 17 or 18). Definitely, and the sad fact is, if you insist on having pets, you can't get -too- hung up on them dying. It's definitely sad if you form an attachment to them. I remember it being terrible when the cat my family adopted died, but after that it was a very easy decision simply to not have any more pets. In a slightly cold kind of way, we all decided it's too sad and painful when a pet you love dies, so why create that situation?

Who was the first band to do this anyway? I think it might've been ETID?

ETID was one of the first, only difference is last year those bands were selling them for 24 hours and only had limited stock. ETID did one print in two colors in a small amount and thats all. These are just endless amounts.

I'm of two minds if I want to see Motorhead again. I seen them once, and they were great, but I'm not sure if I want to see them when Lemmy is worse for wear. Rather save the live image as one of him totally on form, than one of him barely keeping things together.

Taking a signal that is a function of some particular sampled rate of time and mapping it out across the frequency domain. Things like high-pass filters or noise-removal filters use the Fourier-ized version of a specific signal to fuck with frequencies and kill digital noise and shit. It's basically blackfuckingmagic, which I have come to accept will comprise the rest of my professional career as an electrical engineer.
