Today, a judge in Moscow convicted Pussy Riot of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred." The three girl band played a song in a Moscow Cathedral calling the Virgin Mary to protect Russia from Vladmir Putin. They face up to seven years in prision, the sentence to be handed down later today. Here's the original video of the incident:

Now if we really wanted to talk hooliganism motivated by religious hated:

Never heard of them. The whole thing both looks and sounds lame though.

7 years is definitely overkill. I say fair play to them, good to see some bands still making a ruckus for what they believe in.

Love Christ, don't much care for his followers.

This is so fucked up. I've never listened to this band before but I have tons of respect for them.

This sucks, I've been loosely following this and I was hoping they'd get off (although i didn't think it would happen). I wish that people had the right everywhere to peacefully protest; they weren't hurting anyone, just standing up for what they believe. At least they didn't get the max penalty but still...

For those who haven't followed the story, this is what got them arrested.

Seems like the trial moved really fast. Maybe that's what happens in a fucked up legal system though.

Apparently Gary Kasparov was at the courthouse where a protest was going on about Pussy Riot (he wasn't involved with the protest at all) and he got arrested and assaulted by police.

Russian police, y u so stereotypical?
