I won't do a full-length review since I'll be heading to sleep very soon (have to get up early for the last day of Outside Lands tomorrow), but I'll say a few things. First of all, fuck YouTube for lowering my expectations. Metallica blew me away; my face has been melted. I do not regret choosing them over Agalloch at all. Definitely one of the best performances I've ever seen. I caught a pick from Hetfield as well as Trujillo at the end of their set. Along with their setlist I'll post Neil Young's, since I know there are some fans of his on here. I don't know the Explosions in the Sky set yet, so maybe I'll update this later when I find it.

Hit the Lights :rocker:
Master of Puppets
Fuel
Ride the Lightning :rocker:
Fade to Black :rocker:
The Memory Remains
Hell and Back
Sad But True
Welcome Home (Sanitarium) :rocker:

For Whom the Bell Tolls
Blackened :rocker: :rocker:
Nothing Else Matters

Creeping Death :rocker:

Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)

Mr. Soul (Buffalo Springfield song)

James' voice was IMPECCABLE. I only noticed he wasn't pulling it off perfectly during the first half of One and Nothing Else Matters, but my prejudice for those two songs may have something to do with it. I'm going to add :rocker:s to the highlights of the set.

Great Metallica set! and Neil Young doing Mr. Soul... I was raised on that type of music so that inclusion makes me quite jealous.

Glad you had fun, very nice set by Metallica

Also jealous you saw Neil Young in the same weekend, my parents and I listened a lot to him in my early youth and one my favorite songs is keep on rockin in the free world, too bad he didn't include that

Glad to hear you had fun buddy. That Metallica set is fucking tight, and the Neil Young set looks cool. I can't believe he would skip Down by the River or Cowgirl in the Sand though, especially since this show was with Crazy Horse!

Razor Love
Cinnamon Girl

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Holy shit, my two favorite Neil Young songs! If he plays both when I see him in a couple months, I might be able to die happy!

How much of Frayed was played as the outro?

Answer: Not enough of it, enough being all of it.

Oh so they'll play Orion at this show but not at Orion Fest, that makes sense

Very cool review, glad to see you had a blast. Happy to hear that James' voice is doing well. He sounded the best I've heard him since probably 2000 when I saw them in AC @ Orion.

im too lazy to use youtube. but im assuming this was a traditional stage show for them based off the setlist, and not that cool setup they had in Mexico, right?

Sweet set but what are the chances Metallica never ever plays Fuel and Enter Sandman again + less "ballads"?

I don't know why you even think there's a chance.

I want to relive last night all over again  Probably going to make the setlist into a playlist on my iTunes and only listen to it for the next week.

I must give continuous props to Metallica for having such great set lists. They really do deliver for their fans which always nice to see. That Neil Young set list isn't to shabby either! I don't listen to a lot of him, but the songs I know from it I like quite a lot.. "Fuckin' Up" is a great song.. love that riff

Not it was their standard stage setup for festival shows with the second story level; it did have the snake pit which is kinda weird since they didn't pull the black album in full

I'm listening to some samples of the show at livemetallica.com and I gotta say, James sounds downright incredible compared to the stuff I heard from 08-10, maybe even earlier. Hit the Lights alone sounds just fucking awesome. brutal, chances are what you heard on YouTube was accurate, but looks like you just happened to be one of the first few crowds to hear James sound awesome again for the first time in forever!

Lars is still a shitty, shitty drummer though.
