Yeah, people arrived early and there was a long line to buy merch. I figured they limited the Faustain Echoes LP to only a select few per show but I was surprised when I was able to purchase it when the show was over. I don't think anything else sold out either.

I've been spending a couple of days in San Antonio, TX (I'm from Austin, originally). Since I arrived in the city on the 26th, I've found:

Birth A.D. - Stillbirth of a Nation EP. If you haven't checked them out before, I'd highly recommend it. :rocker:

Fix: The Ministry Movie on DVD. Watching Al Jourgensen fuck a cooked chicken is something I doubt I'll forget soon...then again, it wouldn't be Ministry if it wasn't fucked up.

Patches from Rotting Christ, Slayer, Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Testament, Death, Ministry, Sepultura, and Goatwhore. Was going to get a Type O Negative back patch, but the guy who ran the shop was about as attentive to the customers as a three year old with ADHD on crack.

Shirts from Anal Cunt, Cannibal Corpse, and Exhumed.

Why would you spend that much cash on what are mostly fairly ordinary, widely available releases, at festival prices? Especially German prices.

How are most of those widely available? Most of them I've never seen for sale in North America, and if you order them online you'd have to do them in separate Amazon orders, which has really expensive shipping. There are probably a few I overpaid for, but overall, it would have cost me a lot more to buy these here.

Wow. Is buying music really that bad in the US? Almost all of those are common as fuck and usually very cheap. Online that is.

In terms of Europe, Germany is the worst place to buy music. Their prices are just stupid. Although that mail order place with the yellow and black signs whose name I can't remember who turn up at all the festivals aren't bad... they often have a bunch of 5 euro stuff, which is usually old and cheaper elsewhere, but at least it's not too extortionate.

Says he's from Canada, which might explain things.

Yup. The US is better than Canada, but neither are great. Shipping from Amazon.com is like $7 a CD, so I rarely order from the US unless I'm doing a huge Century Media or CD Universe order. Any chance I get to buy stuff that's somewhat hard to find, I take it.

Granted, not all of those are impossible to find; Darkthrone, Immortal, and Motorhead are obviously quite easy to find, but things like Bathory and Running Wild are usually quite expensive.

Just for an example, a chain record store (FYE, Best Buy, etc.) might have, out of those listed, Darkthrone, Immortal, Motorhead, Obituary...that's about it. And I'm not talking a ton of albums by those bands, I mean like 1 or 2 copies of their newest release, and maybe 1 or 2 of a "classic" release.

Nope, I went back to my camper after buying them, so I only had hold onto the last 6 or so CDs I bought on the final day.

You are completely right about this. Every FYE I've gone to hardly stocks anything beyond new releases. And for huge bands like Motorhead, you can get all of their albums really cheap except for the new ones, so there's not too much you can buy in those stores.

Best Buy in the US is so much better than the ones here for CDs. We have one HMV in Toronto which has rare albums, but most CDs are at least $20. There's a Bathory CD there for $42, which has been there as long as I can remember.

I thought like $20 and $30 wasn't too bad since it included a signed picture along with a photo taken.

The $55 was a duo picture that was with a backdrop and professionally done and printed for you.

I dunno, you may be right. There are a lot of hurdles to it, mainly from the studios. Hell, TV networks are still fighting to the death over ads on sites like Hulu. There's also the problem of technology; even the best high speed Internet providers in America can't handle streaming or downloading a high volume of video at a decent resolution.

Even with Netflix Instant being a million times better than it used to be, I still buy physical media simply because you never know when a studio is going to pitch a fit and pull their stuff from the service.

Plus you're only talking about X many users. It's pretty unlikely even countries like the US and the UK will ever have networks in place that will be able to cope if all TV and all movie releases are streamed.

He's ridding himself of his CD collection to switch to only digital and vinyl, so it's not necessarily an indication of his listening habits. Though, I have an idea a lot of those albums that existed in his CD collection (the list was pretty damn extensive) won't be getting replaced.

Hey people,

The Honorable illuminatus917 told me to pop in here because people wanted my CD list, and I'm happy to do that on my lunch break, but oy! The slander I'm seeing in this thread! Thought I should pop in and clear a few things up.

Yes, I am selling all of my CDs. The reasons are many, but none of them have to do with shifting music taste or a lessened allegiance to financially supporting bands. Quite the opposite, actually.

A lot of us grew up in the era where the CD was the dominant format, especially in the era when CDs and iTunes did not overlap. If you wanted a high quality music file on your computer as well as your stereo, you had to buy the CD, and that was that.

Today, that simply isn't the case. Between iTunes (and the iTunes Store), Spotify, and a dozen more digital music resources, when you're listening to a "file," it's rarely if ever on the actual laser-read disc that a factory put music onto. How many of you carry around a boombox in 2012?

This has been true for me for years, but I always kept my CDs because they were a "collection." Except this wasn't true either, because as a college student and now young professional, I move all the damn time. Across four moves in as many years, my CDs stayed in cardboard boxes and were constantly in transit. Isn't a huge part of collecting having a display for said collection? Mine wasn't functioning on that level.

Now that I work in the music industry (and have a desk job that keeps me plugged into Spotify and iTunes nine hours a day), I listen to more music than ever. Not wanting a CD collection to hang like a fucking albatross around my neck has nothing to do with the space music occupies in my life.

I simply know that dumping the entire collection will not change my listening habits one iota -- I'll use the aux cord on my iPhone in the car to access any of the music I own or Spotify radio via 3G, I'll stream at work, I'll play from the iTunes interface at home if I'm multitasking or at Barnes & Noble while I write -- and when I start building a vinyl collection, my listening experience will actually improve tenfold as I'm forced to make "music listening" an activity in and of itself more often.

So please, reserve your judgment, and I'll reserve mine. If you want my CDs, I'm happy to sell them to you for dirt nothing (they're going at an average of less than $3 a pop). I'm just not the same listener I was ten or even five years ago.

For what it's worth, I understand what he means by moving and the inconvenience of moving massive amounts of physical product. Whenever I buy CD's in Bloomington, I move the CD itself to my big ass carrier, and the cases themselves just sit on a table, waiting for me to bring them home. I guess the reason why I choose to keep my CD's around is because god forbid a day comes when all my electronic shit gets deleted, made worse by the fact that my external harddrive took a massive shit recently (fuck you Time Machine). It may be the day that never comes, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Oh, and while I don't write there, I use Barnes & Noble for internet and schooling all y'all in mad knowledge. :D

I am actually unfamiliar with 95% of popular pop music.

I'm not.

Lady Gaga can actually sing - Katy Perry can not.

I would actually say Katy Perry is in the middle of releasing the worst singles of her career. "The One That Got Away", "Part of Me", and "Wide Awake" are atrocious and really highlight that she cannot sing for the life of her.

TGIF was good, ET is only good when it's the version featuring Kanye West, "Firework" is one of the worst songs I've ever heard...she just hasn't released a really good song in like three years.

Even if he didn't buy it from Brad, why would it matter? It's music. You don't have to agree with the band's views. It's also funny how Arghoslent gets so much flak, yet it's totally fine to support Burzum. Not to say both aren't idiots, but it's a stupid contradictory standard.

well yeah, but throw on any one of Burzum's songs and give a first-time listener the lyrics, they wouldn't find anything offensive.

Ah, okay. I see no problem with people not wanting to support a band because of their own values or beliefs, I just don't like when people knock others for doing it.
