*Edit for While Heaven Wept*

This show was billed as the "Pathfinder Metal Fest IV". I really wish While Heaven Wept would be able to play more than a handful/one or two US shows every year-- great musicians, great sound, unique, and they have lots to offer fans of all kinds of metal.

They didn't differ too much from their ProgPower USA set in Atlanta last year, though they did play longer-- the epic "Thus With a Kiss I Die" was added-- man, bassist Jim Hunter is a monster-- towards the end of that song he was flying all over the place. Michelle Schrotz is also an integral part-- her backing vocals will/would be missed if/when she leaves (I seem to recall reading that she isn't a permanent member anymore, but I could be wrong).

Rain Irving did have some cheat sheets for some of the vocals, and used them just a couple times for cues but did not rely on them. Outside of the gruff vocal parts on "Of Empires Forlorn", Tom Phillips did no other vocals, which is also sad, as his clean stuff is pretty remarkable too. But hell, when you have Rain backed by Michelle, you don't really need any more...

Word on the street after the show was that WHW will be doing a show in Raleigh, NC in September supporting Primordial, so...

The Drowning Years
Of Empires Forlorn
Voice in the Wind
In Aeturnum
Saturn and Sacrifice
Thus With a Kiss I Die

To Wander the Void (with 3 diehards who came down from Chicago for the show doing the Arch-ish parts)

They played just probably shy of 80 minutes-- would have loved a couple more from the (forgotten?) Fear of Infinity.

Brave was also incestuously excellent. I was able to snag the Brave comp, one of their EPs, a pre-Brave Arise from Thorns cd, and a WHW shirt for $40.

Theocracy was better than I remembered from a few years back; skipped most of Void of Reason (except for their cover of The Clairvoyant), Lorenguard was like Battlelore lite(?), Brazilian thrashers Machinage were ok, and I skipped Draekon. 7 bands (one from South America and one established Nuclear Blast band) for $14-- unheard of, particularly in a venue with a top-notch stage/sound system, and a complete bar/restaurant connected with in/out privileges.

Damn I would love to see these guys sometime. Too bad they tour Europe more than the US.

It was at the 120 Tavern and Music Hall, formerly The Local.

Thanks for the heads up. I just perused the web site, and it looks like Sid from Slipknot is doing a DJ set after Mayhem Fest this Saturday.

I know Michale Graves from one of the later Misfits incarnations is playing there, and White Wizzard/Widow/Icarus Witch are also playing there.

Raven is headlining the next Pathfinder fest there in November.

I can't believe I've never heard of this place before. I may check out the Michael Graves show. I've never been huge on the Misfits, but its almost wrong not to go.
