Can't believe no one has posted anything about this. I actually managed to win the IMFC First to the Barrier drawing, and thankfully showed up early enough that the Fan Club trip wasn't there yet. We were about the 8th or 10th people inside, and Irritated Trout and Razor were right behind me in line. Ended up on the rail a little bit to the right of Adrian.

Alice Cooper was surprisingly good. I'm still not the biggest fan of his music but the stage show was really entertaining and the band was solid. The setlist was the same as the other gigs. Set time was 7:30-8:20.

Maiden went on like clockwork at 9:00, and the show was fantastic as expected. The setlsit on paper was still pretty disappointing but as a show it was awesome. I honestly didn't really miss Hallowed, but I still am pissed about the absence of Infinite Dreams. Production value-wise, this was the most elaborate Maiden show I've ever seen, even surpassing the 2008 tour. There were 19 pyro blasts in Number of the Beast alone, and equally as many in Phantom of the Opera and Aces High. Seventh Son was just epic on all levels, despite the fact that I was on the verge of passing out from dehydration. During the band intro break in Running Free, I got Adrian's attention and pointed to my wrist and mouthed the words "Wristband", and then he gave me a smile and a thumbs up, and at the end of the show walked out and tossed me one of his wristbands.

As many of you know, when I saw Maiden in Virginia in 2010 I had a pretty shitty experienced and said it would be the end of me doing GA pit tickets for Maiden shows - I reneged for this tour, largely because I refused to go out on a negative note. This definitely was a great night, one of if not the best time I've seen Maiden, so now with both an Adrian Smith pick and wristband and having won First to the Barrier, I can bow out.

Setlist:
01 Moonchild
02 Can I Play With Madness
03 The Prisoner
04 2 Minutes to Midnight
05 Afraid to Shoot Strangers
06 The Trooper
07 Number of the Beast
08 Phantom of the Opera
09 Run to the Hills
10 Wasted Years
11 Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
12 The Clairvoyant
13 Fear of the Dark
14 Iron Maiden
Encore:
15 Aces High
16 The Evil That Men Do
17 Running Free

I agree about the not so great setlist. But I am looking forward to the show!!

Great show, managed to get one of Dave's picks

The heat was awful though, by the end of Maiden's set I was pretty damn sick

IMO There really isn't much to complain about with the set other than swapping out ATSS with Infinite Dreams. Glad you had fun though and hopefully I can win FTTB for Edmonton. Thanks for the review!

The show was excellent, but IMO didn't have quite the same "epic" feeling as the 2008 tour, or even the 2010 tour. Part of it was the oppressive heat; I had to bail to the lobby after Seventh Son, because I was starting to get light-headed. However, Trooper/NOTB/Phantom/RTTH in a row was fucking awesome, not to mention The Prisoner and Seventh Son.

I took some pictures, nothing spectacular though:

Is that a Final Frontier backdrop and what the hell did they have that up for?

Okay, I have to say this...I know that Maiden is playing pretty much the same set on each date on this tour, but where the fuck do you get "not a good setlist on paper" or "yeah, I agree on this not being a good setlist"....?

What the fuck guys? FIVE FUCKING SONGS from Seventh Son of a Seventh Son! It's the best album the band ever put out. Plus they're doing THE PRISONER! Here's my take: INCREDIBLE SETLIST ON PAPER. I'm seeing this tour in August. Cannot fucking wait.

Personally I think this is a rockin setlist and cant wait to see it in 3.5 weeks!!! The Prisoner and the title track to 7th Son alone are worth admission.

They use as the backdrop for The Number of the beast, instead of the album's cover art. They did it on the last tour too.

Didn't you hear they were playing 3 cuts from The Final Frontier for those here in America that didn't have a chance to see it in 2011? Better sell your tickets.;)

Best post in any of the Iron Maidn threads for this tour so far:rocker:

Seriously, how bitter and jaded of a fan do you have to be to say this set looks bad on paper? How the hell can anyone think that? This set is awesome. I'll be seeing then twice this month and will love hearing this set both times.

Hottest concert I have ever been to in my life. 97 degress at the nearby bank thermometer @ 7PM. Whatever your opinions of the set list are, It goes over good, and has a good flow to it.

I have seen Maiden every tour since Killers, and every set list has something I wished were different, but the guy next to me may think the exact opposite. Any band with a big catalog is going to have the same problem, whether you are Kiss, or Priest, or countless others. Be thankful that at least they change things up from tour to tour. I will take a throwback tour any day over bands playing entire albums. For gods sake look at the Scorpions horrible setlist. Same show since 1984. I could list ten Maiden songs I would rather hear, but the set still rocks, and maybe next tour they dust off something different.

Honestly, I'm not a massive fan of it on paper. The problem for me is more about what's not there than what is there. The fact that they chose to play 2 Minutes, Fear of the Dark, Running Free, and Number of the Beast again instead of playing great deep cuts such as Killers, Still Life, Infinite Dreams, and Die With Your Boots On is a bummer. Yes, there are 5 7th Son tracks, but we heard 4 of them in 08/09. So yeah, this could have (realistically!) been a more impressive setlist had they stuck closer to the content of the video they claim to be representing.

That being said I absolutely loved the shows. It sucks not hearing something like Infinite Dreams but The Prisoner and 7th Son were amazing. Afraid to Shoot Strangers was a nice surprise too. And for all the bitching, 2 Minutes is a great song, Fear of the Dark is a great song, they're great fun live. It's just that when I've seen them so much I want something rarer in their place. But that doesn't cross my mind when I'm screaming the words at the show. The setlist complaints are largely unimportant for me when I'm actually there.

What did you think of Madness in the second slot now that you've seen it, Jeff?

Correct. They're use the Final Fronter backdrop for Number of The Beast.

Would have got some incredible pics both nights due to the highly favourable lighting, but didn't bother taking my camera to either show.

The fuck? We were there stupidly early for my money. The waiting in the sun was intensely annoying.

Great review and awesome pics. Even with the omission of Infinite Dreams, still a great set. I cant wait.

In pretty much total agreement about this, no real need for me to elaborate.

And it definitely worked better than I expected it would - the problem is that at the end of the day I just don't love the song all THAT much.

Exactly. Not sure why people have to bitch about someone not exactly liking the set, whether it's on paper or whatever.
