Fairly good Gamma Ray set there. I wouldn't mind them getting rid of To the Metal in favour of something older, and definitely replacing Empathy with Time to Live. Hopefully they play something similar at Wacken.

Good performance too. Kai sounded great. They dropped 'The Spirit' due to technical difficulties.

How long have they got at Wacken? This was 75 minutes.

No clue how long they'll have. The set times haven't been announced yet (only the order). I'm guessing at least an hour. They don't seem to be headlining, but I think they've gotten quite a bit of time in the past. In any case, I'm just looking forward to finally seeing them!

So, quick wrap up:

Best performances of the festival: Adrenaline Mob, Hell, Pentagram, and King Diamond
Worst: Mastodon
Coolest dude: Kev Bower of Hell
Biggest asshole: Brent Hinds
Best setlist: King Diamond
Worst: Motorhead

Not surprised about the latter, but what was wrong with their performance?

Not surprised about the latter, but what was wrong with their performance?

Not a great deal, they were standard Mastodon. By definition that puts them low on the entertainment scale, so with Hinds being a dick, and no one else worse, they end up bottom by default.

ravenheart
06-10-2012, 09:26 AM
What bullshit did Hinds pull this time?

I think it must have stemmed from his disappointment that the crowd was so small, even though they were on the main stage.

As standard for a festival crowd those packed in front of the stage were going nuts, everyone else was scattered across the field standing or sitting and watching.

He threatened to stop playing, moaned about the lack of activity (like he's a regular Bruce Dickinson), called the entire crowd "pathetic", played the next song then did it again. Played the rest of the set sulking. When he needed to change guitars for the last time he slammed the one he'd finished with into the floor, and as the last song was winding down he played the last couple of bars from behind the drums so he could storm staight off. Left the others (mostly Troy) to acknowledge the crowd.

Totally. Thing is, it's not just totally disrespectful to the fans, of which there were a fair amount down the front, it's disrespectful to the rest of the band, especially Troy who puts way more energy in than the others (except maybe Brann) and gets a good response for his efforts.

Back on the setlists front, having reviewed lyrics/notes I agree with that Soundgarden set, so have updated accordingly.

Also added: Mastodon, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Year of The Goat, Symphony X, Bad Company and Ugly Kid Joe.

Not really too sure on the Mastodon one, but the songs in brackets are what was most likely played, comparing it to other recent European tour setlists.

youre def. right about that. Mastodon toiled around for a long, long time before they got any real following. saw them/heard about them playing to very small crowds around the NYC area for a long time. im talking 50 to 100 people.

They're not that great live. I've seen them four times and honestly, they don't put on much of a show at all. Several other bands this week could have given them a real lesson in how to perform, and not just bands with a big "show" like King or Hell, just better performers.
